Physics done, phew, DS finished & left early again 😂 but says all the AQA Higher separate science Physics students in his room finished & left early...one question that came up was on the list of topics not to be covered, but DS did think it could have fallen within a broader umbrella topic...

Anyone else with a Monday exam still to complete?

Chicagocubs · 23/06/2022 11:15

Hello all,
I hope it's ok for me to join the thread at this late stage. Our DS is at boarding school and will finish GCSES on Friday.

He seems happy with the exams so hopefully he will be ok. I also have been having treatment for cancer, mine was diagnosed too late and my prognosis is not good. It's ovarian and it's been quite the battle. Sending lots of love to the other moms ❤️.

My DS has made me so proud over the last few years. I can't wait to give him a big hug on Saturday. These GCSE and A level kids really are amazing.

legosnowqueen · 23/06/2022 11:24

@Chicagocubs that sounds very tough, sobering to see how many people are going through cancer treatment. Hope your DS's exams have gone well, bet you can't wait to see him x

Chicagocubs · 23/06/2022 11:27

That you @legosnowqueen Saturday can't come soon enough. We have some difficult conversations to have but not this weekend.

CornishGem1975 · 23/06/2022 11:32

All done - went well apparently and wasn't too hard in her words. Thank god it's all over.

CornishGem1975 · 23/06/2022 11:33

So sorry to hear that @Chicagocubs That's a lot to deal with x

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 23/06/2022 11:53

Well done to all those who are finished! DS has two tomorrow and then he will be done. Prom tomorrow night as well though he's feeling pretty tired so currently not very enthusiastic about that. DS says Physics this morning went well though apparently there was a question he thought was a little bit confusing, he says it involved writing an explanation and he would much rather solve a tricky equation!

Welcome @Chicagocubs sorry to hear about your cancer battle. Hope you can have a good summer with your DS.

What a long hard slog this year has been, sympathies for those who have exams next week, it's hard to make them carry on revising. DS is so done now! He still hasn't decided which sixth form he will choose (assuming he does well enough to qualify for both), I hope he will have more of an idea after the taster days in early July.

Stormchaser1502 · 23/06/2022 12:16

Wahoooo!! And breathe……. 🎉🎉

physics done, not too bad apparently although I’m sure she will Google answers now to see how she’s done!!

she’s gone off with her friends now and needs collecting at 11pm after dinner out and a party at one of their houses.

Princessdebthe1st - what does your daughter want to do in the medical field? My dd is looking into medicine so we are now trying to find work experience for the summer.

Silkierabbit - you are incredible!

GMH1974 · 23/06/2022 12:22

@Chicagocubs Sorry to hear your news. 💐I hope your son does well. My daughter finished today. Phew!

Swimmum1206 · 23/06/2022 12:50

I can't believe DS has actually finished his exams! I drove him into school this morning as he was worried about the school bus getting through the traffic on time with the rail strikes. It was just as well I drove him as the school bus broke down en-route and the replacement bus only got them to school 2 minutes before the exam started!

He seemed pretty chilled when I collected him and he's home resting now as he is up at 4.30 tomorrow morning for an early flight to Croatia. Will be a strange weekend without him, but so pleased he's finally getting the opportunity to travel.

daffodilandtulip · 23/06/2022 12:59

ALL DONE!!!

Sunbathing now and out for dinner with her mates tonight.

Thanks for the sanity of this thread everyone!

Dixiechickonhols · 23/06/2022 13:28

All done here. Forgot to take last pic of her in her uniform. AQA higher physics was fine according to daughter. Prom tonight. Then school sixth form in September.
Whatever the results they’ve all done amazingly well in the circumstances.

PeekAtYou · 23/06/2022 14:07

All done here too. 🎉

StColumbofNavron · 23/06/2022 14:44

@Chicagocubs echoing other sentiments. Enjoy the weekend.

I suspect we become a Taking Their Next Steps - Life Post GCSEs - A levels, BTECS, Apprenticeships, Jobs and More thread.

It was all a bit anti-climatic here. He doesn't really feel like he is leaving as he is staying at Sixth Form, even though Sixth Form joins with a number of other local schools.

Chicagocubs · 23/06/2022 14:56

Thank you all for the warm welcome.x

Allotment123 · 23/06/2022 15:12

Well done everyone, feel quite emotional now it's all over, it's been a horrid year, have a great summer and see you on results day!

PaddingtonPaddington · 23/06/2022 15:33

DS said physics was ‘good’ then they had a school leavers get together on the field and walked into town. Prom tomorrow but he’s not finished yet as his last exam is on Monday 27th afternoon - History OCR!!

Well done for all those that have crossed the finish line today.

9 weeks today is results day…

MrsPnut · 23/06/2022 16:03

All done here too, and I wasn’t here to take a last day of school photo because I had to be at the hospital for day surgery at 7:15.
I’m going to make her put her uniform on again later for a picture to join the memory book.

@Chicagocubs Welcome and it’s such shitty news to receive at any time but during the exams is so tough. There is a cancer support thread on General Health that is a good source of support and venting. Lots of ladies with experience of ovarian cancer who can provide advice if you’d like to join us.

Princessdebthe1st · 23/06/2022 16:43

All done, yaaaaaaayyyy!!! Physics (Edexcel combined higher) was OK. Really liked the 6 mark question and a weekend spent revising circuits and electromagnetism paid off. Pizzza and ice cream on the field, leavers assembly and now home. I am taking her to TGIs for dinner tonight at her request.

@Stormchaser1502 She doesn’t specifically know what she wants to do (medical or otherwise). She has the grades and aptitude to do medicine/pharmacy, the attitude to do nursing/midwifery (although given the problems with her knees it won’t be orthopaedics as bones that aren’t where they should be are a big no no). She also loves history though so would quite happily do that for a degree. We are keeping options very open at present.

Chicagocubs · 23/06/2022 16:52

@MrsPnut I will do that, thank you.x

Lightsabre · 23/06/2022 17:10

@chicagocubs sorry to hear about your diagnosis and I'm sure the extra stress of exams doesn't help. Hope you can relax for a bit.

So happy we are through - big sigh of relief in this house and hopefully a good lie-in tomorrow. Ds texted earlier that Physics was good and has gone off to a friends house with a few of the boys. He's out tomorrow night too (this is a first as he's very introverted). I'm just as happy about the social things! D of E then book return day next week. He's meant to be doing two and a half days taster at the alternative sixth form but has asked me to withdraw his application. I think, on the whole, he feels he will get the grades to stay on at his current school.

We're going to buy him a new tennis racquet as a working hard reward. He also wants a new, flashy keyboard but have told him he needs look for a job now to pay something at least towards his hobby stuff. Feels like they're moving towards being young adults now.

zighead · 23/06/2022 17:27

I can't believe the day is finally here! (I do feel sorry for those DC with exams next week as my DS has a few friends in this scenario)
I remembered to take a photo as it was my last school run and obviously last day in uniform.
He's text to say physics Edexcel igcse went well and he's currently at a friends house celebrating. Hopefully not drinking or vaping for the first time Confused.
DS has a really busy summer ahead involving two separate weeks away with family, two weeks of NCS and also a week of musical theatre. I'm still hoping he can get a job.
I've actually chucked all his papers and work books in the recycling bin already, it was a mammoth task removing all the staples and I have bagged up the revision guides to take to the charity shop soon. My dining room is finally clear after all these months Grin

MyOtherProfile · 23/06/2022 17:48

One more exam on Monday here. Almost there!

I have been doing the chucking on a subject by subject basis - DD was really too busy to sort out, and her desk/study area was a tip, so I confess I went in and sorted it out into piles by subject, and then put them in order of finishing (this was when we were down to just one exam to go on each subject) and have been chucking the piles day by day. Theraputic for me, and I think it helped DD that her study area got cleaner and cleaner. I emptied folders for reuse and chucked all papers and only kept a few textbooks/revision booklets that we might be able to sell/give away - although I put on a different shelf textbooks/revision booklets for those for subjects she is hoping to do/might do for A level. So at this stage only one pile to go for last MFL - and a lovely party going on downstairs still - although only a handful left (been going since 2pm - DD came home and baked, having purchased gluten free flour as one of them is gluten free - there were 12 of them at one point, DD has a lovely social group). Which is why I am hiding upstairs.

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 23/06/2022 18:05

@Chicagocubs welcome. I hope things go well over the summer for you, and that you have a lovely reunion with your DC after the exams. Sending an un-mumsnetty hug.

DC thought Physics was 'good'. So we started, and end, the GCSEs with a 'good' exam. I'm relieved because it will make the summer a happier one. We're also an exhausted family; it's nice to know we're not the only ones.
