Final push today! I hope the physics exam tomorrow is kind. Dd is revising today but she is finding it hard to get motivated.

MrsPnut · 22/06/2022 11:30

Further maths this afternoon and physics tomorrow morning so the end is in sight.
She has a hot tub party on Friday at her friends as an end of exams celebration and then Sixth Form induction early next week.
I really can't wait for it all to be over and for us to get our breath back before results day.

Stormchaser1502 · 21/06/2022 22:01

Lucky here as I live in cornwall! So any questions , ask away ❤️

dd has only physics left but spent day on beach with friends today. Tomorrow is having hair coloured apparently. Although allegedly taking key cards with her to revise….mmmm!!

I love her approach - very emotionally intelligent, healthy and restorative!

Rollergirl11 · 22/06/2022 12:40

@Silkierabbit ditto all the others really hope you enjoy your time away in Cornwall. What a nightmare with your DS and trying to get schooling sorted for him.

DD has been doing a bit of revision for Physics. Not loads to be honest. She has informed me this morning that she’s done with school now. Tomorrow can’t come soon enough for her. I think she’s definitely outgrown the school environment and is ready to be treated a bit more adult. Prom is 2 weeks today.

She has an epic summer of music lined up. She’s going to 2 festivals, seeing Sam Fender at Finsbury Park and a few other local gigs. And we have a 2 week holiday booked for August. Although have been waiting 7 weeks so far for her passport renewal and that is causing me no end of stress. Don’t really want an emergency dash to the London passport office 48 hours before we fly which seems to be what an awful lot of people are resorting to! 🥴😬

Jumping in very late! Hope that’s OK.

Have one finishing As Friday w Biology and one finishing GCSEs tomorrow w Physics. Music GCSE today went v well - DD was v pleased with the pieces they picked.

I am so proud of them both. Neither worked especially well over lockdown or last year but have really stepped up to the plate these last few months. Who knows if it will be enough to get them what they want for next year, I’m super proud whatever the results.

Loads of fun planned from this weekend onwards - I feel like we all really deserve it!

MirandaWest · 22/06/2022 15:19

Hello 😀

I also have one doing A Levels (finished yesterday) and the other one finishing GCSEs tomorrow. It's been hard work for all of us I think.

What fun have you all got planned?

Lightsabre · 22/06/2022 18:35

Sounds gruelling @silkies but you're almost there now. Sending strength to you.

Ds had music today which he found hard. He's struggled in the listening tests during revision and definitely hasn't put in as much effort for this as his other exams so no surprise. He did well on the composition and performance so hoping that will drag his grade up somewhat.

Physics tomorrow)and Fsmq on Friday but he's not doing a thing for that. Then finished thank goodness!

Out with friends tomorrow afternoon then D of E expedition (in the rain by the look of things), book return day and sixth form induction where he will start mixing with girls again. Much excitement about this amongst his friends!

European holiday for 3 weeks from early July.

QueenMabby · 22/06/2022 18:37

Last one tomorrow!! Can't wait. I'm more excited than ds - he's just drained.

2 week holiday for us and ds has a few days of sport planned but not much else. Maybe some work experience. Also lots of sleep!

Rollergirl11 · 22/06/2022 20:03

Last one for DD tomorrow too with Physics. Then it’s the leavers assembly followed by celebration BBQ and shirt-signing. DD has just spent 2 hours decorating her school shirt with her name. Probs more effort gone in to that then revision today but oh well.

Silkierabbit · 22/06/2022 20:34

Thanks everyone for all the kind messages.

Dd had day off today and been running, 3 exams left, physics tomorrow then stats and fsmq on Friday before all done. Will be glad when they are done though Mr Floof has kept her calm and distracted which is what she needed. Think she is a bit fed up not finished yet but 2 days to go. Wish we had things this weekend lined up but just got a one off cleaner and then final chemo on Monday. Still will be great when all that is behind us.

We have week in Cornwall around a week after that and DD is taking a friend. I have booked the activities, surfing, St Michaels Mount via boat, 3 hour coastal and wildlife boat trip from Mousehole, Morgan 4 seater classic car hire, Minack theatre performance, horse riding on beach and stop over night before at a place where we have a private swimming pool. Pets are booked in rabbit and chicken hotel and found a friend to have Mr Floof. Looking forward to it. Rest of summer DD has a punting job on the river, will meet with friends etc plus 6th form taster days. I have radio afterwards but hopefully will be every day for a week not 3 weeks and think will just make me super tired. Hopefully can go to France as well to see MIL and DHs friends depending on how things go.

DS has no school at all and no provision made but it is so much calmer without all the school phone calls saying they have lost him, calling police, then SS call after police as school initially reporting could be anywhere. At least now school have also admitted he has always been in school and police have handed back to school. So no more SS calls either as they now realise just lost at school. But issue is no education for y10 DS, quite annoying as I got 6k out of la sent to school but they just kept it and said they will only provide 1 gcse lesson whilst he is off. I was hacked off with that but after some negiotiation and ranting I will now get 11 subjects tutored for him until end of term and la have a secret stash of cash paying for. They were also sending a therapy dog round but pointed out not really compatible with our indoor rabbit, silkie chickens and Maine Coon kitten and also think no availability anyway. DS is living the teenage boy dream of bumming around on a sofa with ipad. I had to do his online English lesson after 36 hours of no sleep and chemo. He is starting to eat more though, and even moved a bit to rescue rabbit from the kitten who jumped on him, just playing but hmm Floofboy. Silly boy season here. I normally never drink but am now on a Pimms and lemonade a day to get me through this bit. At least by end Monday chemo and gcses will be over and just silly boy season and radiotherapy to do. Managed to persuade la to back my first choice sixth form and got in touch with their Head.

Good luck for all rest of exams and hope everyone has nice summers.

SFisnotsimple · 22/06/2022 20:46

@Silkierabbit I'm new here but wanted to empathise. I had similar 5 years ago when DD was going through 11+. The last chemo floored me but the radio I found a breeze. Can’t imagine going through it all with GCSEs etc, you must be exhausted.

@MirandaWest fun stuff: we have two holidays (one week in July & one in August), each DC have a separate holiday with friends, also a few fancy restaurants to celebrate end of exams and DD 16th bday, Harry Potter for the zillionth time, sleepovers, parties, concerts, golf for DS, festivals, comedy show, and a weekend away for my birthday with DH & friends. Bliss!

then it’ll all go tits up on 18 & 25 Aug 😬

Silkierabbit · 22/06/2022 20:58

Thanks SF So sorry to hear you had cancer and needed chemo too, must have been so hard with younger child but glad you now seem to be living life to the full again. Amazing summer you have planned.

Naem · 22/06/2022 22:54

DD has organised a group of her close friends to have a mini party in our garden tomorrow after Physics, which will be nice, although several of them, like DD still have one to go on Monday. That time is really going to drag, with her feeling guilty about not revising, but fed up and feeling left out. Was happy to offer the garden and house (one friend is in a wheelchair, so not everybody's place is suitable and ours is very wheelchair compatible).

But first week in July she is going overseas for three weeks (youth group organised), home for a week and then camping for five days nearby here - she has been going to this camping group for years, it is really aimed for much younger DC, to introduce them to camping, so they camp a short drive away from where the organiser lives (it was her brainchild) and it is only Monday to Friday (or shorter or just during the day, depending how little they are). But the organiser's niece has been coming since she was small, and she is friendly with DD at school, and introduced DD to it years ago, so although DD is now practically a helper, rather than a participant, she loves going, Which is good, because neither I nor DH are really into, or know much about, camping, but DD loves it.
Then the following two weeks she has NCS, so a very busy summer, she barely stops.

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 23/06/2022 07:00

Good luck to all with Physics today. Hoping to end on a bang, not a whimper!

THEN WE ARE DONE!

CornishGem1975 · 23/06/2022 07:33

It's here! The final exam. It didn't feel like it was ever going to come...now just two months to wait... Confused

cheninblanc · 23/06/2022 07:44

Hooray the day is here!! Does anyone else's child struggle? My daughter works hard, really hard but will get some 4s and some 3s, but not through lack of effort! Her sister was in the higher paper for everything and my sd inherently lazy but bright so coasts through. More than anyone in the family my dd deserves her 4s bless her. She's a fab summer planned now so exciting 😀

LouisCatorze · 23/06/2022 08:01

@Naem that sounds a lovely way to celebrate the end of exams.

DD has quite a lot lined up punctuating the coming eight/nine weeks before Results Day, including holidays, DS's graduation ceremony, a big family do and a trip to Nice. And she's back doing her tutoring sessions on weekdays now. Next week she's got two lots of induction days for sixth form, as she's not made her mind up yet as to which option she's going to stick with (and they are results-dependent too), so a busyish start (I'd forgotten that means it will be the usual 6am wake up time for another week!).

@Silkierabbit good luck with your last chemo session and the radiotherapy. I bet you are so looking forward to having some proper chillax time with your family when you go to Cornwall?

Good luck to everyone's DC. They have all had to put up with very trying circumstances over the past couple of years. Hoping they all have fabulous summers.

Princessdebthe1st · 23/06/2022 08:12

I have just waved off DD to her last exam. It felt like it was never going to end for much of this past few weeks. She will have leavers assembly then pizza and inflatables on the field (not that DD will be on the inflatables as she is on crutches for very dodgy knees). This is her last ‘official’ school day but she will actually be in school on the 28th for a medical careers day. Still, she has gone with chocolates for the office ladies who have been letting her up and down in the lift (and occasionally forgetting her!) for the past 18 months and thank you cards for some of the teachers that have made a real difference to her. I have approximately 8 teenagers at my house on Sunday for a get together with a few staying for a sleepover.

@Silkierabbit I have been reading your posts over the past few weeks in absolute awe of the challenges you are facing and how you are managing them. I am so glad chemo is nearly at an end. I have treatment for breast cancer a few years ago (chemo, surgery and then radio). I was expecting the nausea for the chemo (and definitely got it!) but I wasn’t expecting to feel nauseous with the radio. It can happen quite commonly with radiotherapy to the abdomen and head but they don’t seem to warn about it for some other areas so just be prepared for the possibility and make sure you have some anti-sickness meds available so it doesn’t spoil your Summer. X

Kaftankween · 23/06/2022 08:32

Felt emotional watching DD go off today, like I’ve been holding my breath for 6 weeks. DH is away for work so it’s just me and the dog. It feels like the end of an era - last day of the uniform she’s worn for so many years. My last school bus drop off til September when I’ll be thinking Strictly and Christmas!

I won’t see her after as she’s off to town and then staying with a mate. Hope I hear how it’s gone but if I don’t then that’s also a good sign.

Well done to us all, especially @Silkierabbit who has had so much extra to contend with.

MirandaWest · 23/06/2022 08:51

It feels a bit weird knowing this is the final GCSE for DD. She'll be staying on at the same school but no uniform in 6th form.

Am really hoping there are no issues with the Physics paper as this is an AQA one for her!

legosnowqueen · 23/06/2022 08:52

Penultimate exam for DS today. Will be a struggle to motivate him for the final exam for him on Monday, it's History which he plans to do at A level so he needs to stay on the revision hamster wheel...afternoon off today though...

Good luck to all today, & what a relief for those finishing.

Summer plans here are a fortnight in Mallorca in July (delayed from 2020) although DH is now not joining us, was coming for a week but will stay at home to support our Ukrainian guests. DS has Leeds fest the day after results day! Nothing else planned apart from prom but hope he has a lot of fun & that the weather is kind. It also looks like my brother's family will return from overseas in August, not seen them since July 2020 & DS's cousin is the same age as him & they get on really well so that will be fab.

So much for everyone to look forward to - enjoy your champagne this evening, those who finish today 🥳

StColumbofNavron · 23/06/2022 09:08

Well done everyone, everyone’s DC. @cheninblanc dS2 and 3 will have to work a lot harder for their grades than DS1 who has worked consistently hard all the way along so now is finding it pretty straightforward, though I wouldn’t say easy. DS3 refused to engage in school really until year 5, so is consequently quite behind and it’s going to be very hard for him to catch up as his literacy just isn’t there. Both of them will need far more support and organisational help, but there are many different paths open to them. Good luck - hope she gets her 4s.

@Silkierabbit i feel tired just reading your posts. You are amazing.

We have presentation evening and sixth form taster next week then that’s it really until we go away for almost 4 weeks back just in time for results and enrolment. DS1 didn’t want to go for dinner but has asked for takeaway, which we have often so doesn’t feel that special. I have got a plan to get him all three of this seasons Liverpool shirts as a well done for all the hard work on results day. He will love this more than any dinner and he usually only gets one shirt per season at Christmas.

QueenMabby · 23/06/2022 09:46

We made it!!! DS surprisingly subdued this morning despite physics being a fave. This is rather anticlimactic for him i think - he's so shattered!

He's just planning on walking home after - he has two days of sixth form induction next week and his prom.

Early July we're off to Florida for two weeks - can't wait! Then he wants to get a job.

Akite · 23/06/2022 10:19

i don't know about everyone else but im exhausted! Up late helping dd who was having a bit of a panic/feeling overwhelmed by trying to get everything ready for today.
Once physics is done it's off to Glastonbury, im taking her stuff in and swapping bags with her before she goes then I imagine it'll be radio silence till she needs to be collected on Monday 🙁
my youngest is on her school camp tomorrow so it'll be very quiet in the house. Can't quite believe we are here.
prom and leavers assembly next week, then we are off on holiday the week after for 2 weeks. Dd already has a job in a local cafe so she's planning to work as much extra as she can.

pinkroseapp · 23/06/2022 10:27

All done here, ds has finished his physics exam and said it was better than paper 1 (igcse). Time to relax now. Hooray 😄
