Good luck to your DS @NameInUseAlreadyAgain My DD started her new job last weekend, and I feel a little guilty because it was the first one she had applied for.
She has been doing a paper round for quite a long time though and had done volunteering at a charity shop so had a couple of things to put on her CV as well as doing a trial shift at the cafe.

Chemistry today was ok apparently, just 2 more here this week and then a summer of freedom (and working).

MrsScrubbingbrush · 20/06/2022 19:47

According to DCs the Chemistry paper (AQA Higher separate) was "good"

DD1 is up to speed with Latin so just a little revision needed & DD2 is having an evening off.

cheninblanc · 20/06/2022 20:04

Goodluck with the job interviews! My daughter had a paper round at 14, then washed up in a kitchen and now waits on the tables and will pick up extra over Sumner around work experience and ncs. She really enjoys the money!!

Rollergirl11 · 20/06/2022 12:56

@shazshaz that’s awful! How many of them were sitting the exam?! I don’t understand how this can happen. The end time should have been written up on the board!

Im not sure what happened either - the correct finishing time was written up on the board. Anyway we've had an email & all the children (about 4/5 of the year group I think) are eligible for special consideration on a case by case basis. So that's her with special consideration for both Chemistry exams after missing her first due to illness. She's quite chilled about it now luckily, having had an afternoon nap.

I’m glad to hear that it’s been raised and it must be a relief for you if your exhausted daughter can have a nap.

11th chemo done, 2 hour wait and running late so a very long day but done, lots of emergencies and no bed for 1 I saw anywhere.

Chemistry done and fine 4 more to go.

Silkierabbit · 21/06/2022 01:23

Miranda New York trip sounds very exciting, have a great time.

DD did chemistry and went fine. Think its AQA higher separate. 4 left to go with 2 on Friday, history, physics, stats, level 3 maths. 11th chemo done. Horrendous delays and saw 1 emergency patient no beds for in whole hospital and them suggesting try another hospital. 2 hour wait before called in. But its over and done with. DD is a bit fed up she has 4 but friends have maybe 1 left but 4 days to go, she is fine in the 3 gcse but the fsmq level 3 was self taught and she has not finished it by quite a bit though is very good at maths so think grade will be OK.

In other news got back to an e-mail about y10 DS saying the LA is now changing him to home education until end of term and y11 tbd as current school keep losing him. This term isn't too much of an issue but y11 is not good at all.

Looking forward to finishing GCSEs on 24th and last chemo on 27th then radio will be after but not as bad as chemo esp as right side so just tiredness expected from that though hoping its a week intense every day not 3 weeks lower dose everyday. More treatment after that but that is by far the worst done then, just hormone tablets for 10 years (untreated menopause plus tablets causing depression here I come) then possibly 2 more operations, 1 to put breast back (cosmetic) but 2 year wait for that from end of treatment, and 1 possibly ovaries out but that may not be needed.

DD has summer job punting boats £10 an hour plus tips and should keep her fit so good. We have a week in Cornwall coming up soon from cancer charity in a 4 bed cottage close to the coast.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/06/2022 08:51

I’ve just had an awful phone call with school.

DD has really bad stress migraines all of which are well documented and supported by GP evidence. She’s had them in 3 exams so far. Last night she started with the worst one ever. Really really unwell.

Phoned school to let them know she wouldn’t be able to attend history today.

’Can’t she just come in for the hour?’
’Can’t she just take medication?’
‘Don’t know what the exam board will do. They can choose not to do anything’
’You’ll need a letter from the doctor ( l sent a long detailed one in yesterday)

etc etc. why couldn’t they just say ‘We think you’re lying outright?’

l was so upset. Dd is really distressed.

legosnowqueen · 21/06/2022 09:07

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow that's so upsetting, did you speak to the EO or to the office admin? I would escalate this in order to get the reassurance that the letter from yesterday is sufficient & that representation will be made to the exam board by the school.

@Silkierabbit that sounds gruelling. Poor DS, hope you can get some support there. I have so much admiration for your calm attitude to everything that is on your plate.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/06/2022 09:08

It was horrible. Just horrible.😭

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/06/2022 09:12

I spoke to the head of year.

It was the implication that l was lying which was so hurtful. I emailed them saying l found the conversation distressing, but no reply.

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 21/06/2022 09:26

That's awful. I am so sorry - that's incredible stress on top of the usual exam stress. I hope you get it sorted quickly.

History this morning for us. Roads absolutely chocka - got there in time but assume it's because of the rail strike. Will leave even earlier for Physics on Thursday.

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 21/06/2022 10:09

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow that sounds really upsetting, hope that your DD is soon feeling 100% and the school Exam officer can sort out something with the exam board.

@Silkierabbit what a lot you have on your plate. Pleased you managed to get your chemo done in the end and it's the last one next week. Great you have a holiday to look forward to soon it sounds like you are going to need it. Hope you can make some progress with plans for your DS and his schooling next year.

I'm impressed by these 16 year olds who have jobs (or are looking for jobs) nothing could be further from my DS's mind! He wants to lay about doing as little as possible and playing on the computer all summer I think. As i type I think he is still in bed in his pjs but he has been doing some Physics revision. I'm really glad his last few exams are his stronger subjects, don't think I would be able to make him analyse poetry at this stage - he's very glad he never has to do that again.

StColumbofNavron · 21/06/2022 10:36

@IThinkIMadeItWorse DS1 also not interested in a job, he has got one, but one that I handed to him on a plate doing some admin that I was doing during my PhD so he can do it now. TBF we are also away for a month in the summer and I am not sure many jobs would look favourably on starting then buggering off. I am still trying to encourage him to train as a referree but as yet no luck.

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 21/06/2022 10:48

@Silkierabbit I hope your treatment continues well - you've all had so much to deal with. Wishing you, and your DCs all the very best for a happy summer holiday.

No summer job for DC either - we actually have plans for 6 weeks of the hols, so logistically it wouldn't work. DC wasn't very well before the exams and I want them to have a complete break to try to recover.

But History was good today (well, 3/4 of it was and the final quarter was 'I wrote something'). Only Physics left on Thursday now.

Dixiechickonhols · 21/06/2022 11:09

DD was happy with final history today (the Cold War) she did make me smile when she was telling me about one question and I was explaining I was her age when that happened.
Just her least favourite physics to go.

MirandaWest · 21/06/2022 11:21

History here was Normans. It was fine DD says.

Only Physics left for her now. Quite a few of her friends have music tomorrow but she can happily do physics all day instead.

She’ll probably do some this afternoon although she has a longer than usual choir rehearsal this evening as they have a concert this Saturday so hope she doesn’t do too much

PaddingtonPaddington · 21/06/2022 12:35

DS had History this morning- Making of America, he said the questions were annoying as they didn’t cover so much of what he learnt but it’s done. 2 more exams to go.

DS has a job. When he turned 16 last year he applied for 2, went for a trial at the first one and liked it so turned down the other one. He’s learnt loads and is very much enjoying being paid every month including holiday pay!

Princessdebthe1st · 21/06/2022 14:23

DD had chemistry and food tech yesterday which went very well. She had been worried about food tech as there have been some real issues in the teaching of that subject (surprising as it is a very good school that has been very responsive when issues have been raised about other subjects in the past). She was able to answer all the questions however, although she was surprised by the 4 mark question about how to chop an onion (4 marks seemed a bit generous for that). Just physics to go now. She is revising that today and tomorrow and is completely ignoring the advanced information guidance as she has little faith in its accuracy.

Silkierabbit · 21/06/2022 18:41

Normans here today and only DD sitting at her school as she changed schools. She said it was fine. Physics on Thursday then stats and level 3 fsmq to end on Friday. No issue with buses today, not many trains around here though.

No sleep last night trying to sort out DS in y10, he is not allowed in school until September as school keep losing him. Though at least SS have finally used a brain cell and realised its school losing him not me so they have gone away, only phoned us twice but were saying I need help not losing him. I have never lost DS, he is a Mummy magnet though not since I have had cancer. But he always returns exactly when I tell him to, do have to tell him things like don't climb down cliffs. [roll] Then I get but I can do it safely. Me just don't its a rule. DS OK. I am anything but clam Lego on steroids but you have to carry on with cancer treatment unless you want to die within 2 years. School told me today their tuition package for at home is 1 GCSE only when he is doing 11 subjects. I did call the LA as that is ridiculous and they are trying to get all 11 done. I have just had 36 hours with no sleep and chemo trying to sort all this, and our holiday. I managed to get all subjects for him and discovered the LA have a secret stash of cash. DS does not do online so I did his online English one today, one other child did not turn up, only 1 child out of 3 did and that was with his Mum and he was asked what he thought of English and said he hated it and worst subject ever. She made him answer all the questions as the only student and poor boy I doubt we will see him again, was of little brain though she was making some progress. Think his Mum has her work cut out as well though at least she got him there.

Organising Cornwall trip and was worried activities I was planning would be too boring for teenagers as on chemo but DDs friend coming actually veteod the more exciting ones like surfing and coasteering and only approved the National Trust ones. DD will be having an old mans holiday going round with that boy. 😂Saves me money though so far his choices are adding about £20 to the holiday though he's 6 foot 5 so food bill could be a bit. Think he must be scared of water as even a boat trip was vetoed.

Can't wait for things to be over, last chemo on 27th June and last exam on 24th.

Thanks Wombles and Ithink That's lovely you have plans for all holiday Wombles. My DS would not be interested in a job either Ithink though he spends about 50p a year as he hates spending money. He is so much less mature than DD. The LA suggested vocational things for him and I had to point out unless lying on a sofa ipadding whilst putting rubbish and socks under and in the sofa is in high demand DS has no vocational skills and I think there would be high competition amongst teenage boys for these roles if they did exist.

Looking forward to week in Cornwall.

legosnowqueen · 21/06/2022 20:52

@Silkierabbit Cornwall will be wonderful, just what you need. We went for the first time last summer & it is simply stunning, so special. Wish it wasn't such a long trek for us! Although we have Northumberland nearby which is equally glorious but with the North Sea & less sunshine. DS is very stoic & spent several childhood summers swimming in the North Sea...he couldn't believe it when he finally went to Mallorca & found out that the sea could be warm. I hope you have a relaxing break.

DS has revised Physics today, is now out babysitting. He's applied for a couple of jobs & is vaguely looking for something for the summer but I think is conflicted as he really wants a summer of fun (of course one facilitates the other but...). As we have two weeks in Mallorca, it may not be realistic to properly look until we're back, & I'm fine with that, even if he ends up starting in September.

Stormchaser1502 · 21/06/2022 22:01

Lucky here as I live in cornwall! So any questions , ask away ❤️

dd has only physics left but spent day on beach with friends today. Tomorrow is having hair coloured apparently. Although allegedly taking key cards with her to revise….mmmm!!

aramox1 · 22/06/2022 06:08

So much to manage @Silkierabbit - I hope you can enjoy Cornwall. Ds is home today but sadly still had his alarm set to 6 after having to get up superearly to beat transport issues yesterday! He'll be glad to lie in more often. Very much hoping he will find a job later in summer or belatedly discover partying or both. I see some humanity returning at least. Quite looking forward to being off the hook!

zighead · 22/06/2022 08:36

Sorry to hear you're dealing with chemo and school issues for DS @Silkierabbit You must be emotionally and physically exhausted. Glad the chemo is nearly at an end and you have a short term plan for DS to see you through to the holidays.

My DS found Latin okay yesterday but is past caring and did no further maths revision yesterday. Bit annoyed really, especially as he is hoping to do it for A-level. Hopefully he will do physics revision tonight.

Just two more exams to do here. Yaaaay!

Good luck to all DC with exams today. It's certainly a hot one up north!

MirandaWest · 22/06/2022 10:30

DD is doing Physics revision. As she said it's the only thing left to revise. She is looking forward to finishing tomorrow and being able to tidy things.

DS finished A Levels yesterday and went out yesterday evening with friends. DH picked him up around 2am - I have a very nice DH 😀
