Good luck to those doing exams today. History today for us - Spanish Armada 'don't forget the date, its 1788 tiddly pom' and the Inquisition which makes me think of Monty Python.

1588 I think you'll find. Good thing you aren't sitting History! Grin

Silkierabbit · 16/06/2022 07:08

History this morning the French writing this afternoon. DD is up as is Floof who is desperately seeking footballs (Teacake foil wrappers), he footballed them all the way downstairs to rabbit yesterday but is searching for them by me and has made his tail super floofy. Not sure if any revision happened for these two but still will be two more down by end of the day then no more until Monday then a final 5.

Akite · 16/06/2022 07:19

We had the pleasure of a actual conversation yesterday as well! And a rundown of the biology questions, which went ok but which also included a 5-mark question on something which was excluded in the advanced info, can't remember the exact topic now but this was AQA.
It was actually so lovely to see DD being chatty and relaxed for once. None of the rest of the exams are in subjects that particularly matter for her, she's really strong on history anyway and has had a brilliant tutor for chemistry just for the last couple of weeks which has helped her confidence.
it's so nice to see the pressure gradually lifting.

MrsScrubbingbrush · 16/06/2022 07:21

Good luck to everyone with exams today!

DD2 has History (Henry VIII - her favourite period) & French writing.

DD1 just has French writing today but is going in early to catch a Latin lesson for next week's exam.

Nearly over Grin

Oh you're right - goes and hangs head in shame!!!! 😀

TeenPlusCat · 16/06/2022 07:41

I know the Spanish Armada as there was a whole plot line in one of the 'Jennings' books. Jennings had his bicycle padlock set to 1588 and a teacher said it was the Spanish Armada so he wouldn't forget it, but he did so had to ring the school to find out the date but then the school had the same phone number so he remembered again... Amazing what sticks in your head for 4 years isn't it?

Like everyone in England of a certain age knowing what as Oxbow lake is and explaining it to an American on QI once.

Off topic totally. Good luck to all your DC today.

SleepyMc · 16/06/2022 08:22

Good luck to everyone doing exams today.

SleepyMc · 16/06/2022 08:57

And well done to me and DS for getting him to his exam in great time for a 9am start, only for him to find that it's actually at 1.30pm 😭

MirandaWest · 16/06/2022 09:14

DD doesn't have any exams today - she's enjoying a lie in I think. Only has Spanish writing tomorrow and Spanish is something she's very good at so isn't too stressed about that.

I was getting concerned that some people have History today but she explained to me how originally there would have been 2 papers both with two topics on and now 3 papers each with one in, but there are 4 exams so this is the session where she doesn't have an exam.

Chemistry, History and Physics next week - this time next week she'll be doing her last exam.

Oh noooo! Better that way than the other way around though

Yes 😂

PeekAtYou · 16/06/2022 10:03

Ds is sitting the Normans paper for History this morning.

PeekAtYou · 16/06/2022 10:46

He's back and very happy with the paper. Phew !
Just 4 more next week.

Silkierabbit · 16/06/2022 11:14

DD is in the middle of two at the moment, history done and she sent me an e-mail but not about the exam but world first not about the kitten.

We nearly had one exam like that with timing though our school do phone if you are late for one. Though would be too late for us, well better than no call but we are 40 mins away from DDs school. DD is going in on the bus thankfully its been reliable. Wanted to get her driven in but I don't drive and on chemo and also DH is as bad as DD for lateness and he is also pretty deaf and hearing aid refusing but insists he has heard so all kind of mix ups could happen.

Floof has knocked down DHs shirt for work and is lying on it looking very pleased with himself.

Silkierabbit · 16/06/2022 11:17

We do have quite a few longer chats which is nice but its normally about what dresses she has bought, the kitten or holiday planning or things she wants us to buy. Plus some 6th form etc planning. She says once exams over no point dissecting just move on and focus forward. She is right though opposite of me, I am such an analyser.

MrsScrubbingbrush · 16/06/2022 11:20

Another Maine Coon owner here @Silkierabbit this morning Sparks has been mooching around the house trying out different beds.

DD2's is favourite because the room is coolest. He knows better than to sleep on DD1's bed as she always knows if he's been in her room.

MrsScrubbingbrush · 16/06/2022 11:23

DD2 has said history was good.

Now they both have French writing this afternoon and that's it for this week.

Just 3 more each next week.

Silkierabbit · 16/06/2022 11:25

Floof seems to try and find the warmest bed which I am not sure is sensible with lots of fluff but I don't think he is the most intelligent of animals. DD did tell me off saying that Floof loves me more than her now as I feed him but he does this very cute head tilt starving fluffy kitten look and also will mug me if cute look fails.

LouisCatorze · 16/06/2022 14:06

You are pukka with your Maine Coon cats/kittens! We have moggies with some Siamese ancestry (plain to see in their face shape). They flomp downstairs on the floor where it is coolest for most of the day. Too hot to be chasing mice at the moment!

DD started dissecting the biology 2 paper yesterday and I stopped her in her tracks, as it was quite clear that she totally fluffed the Maple Syrup Urine Disease question and possibly the one about keeping cows indoors vs outdoors too. And probably some more. There is no point in worrying unnecessarily for another 70 days! I've just told her we'll be happy with a range of pass scores for triple science!

Funny that some of you mention more chatty DC. DD had a trying on session of all her cute dresses yesterday evening (two smart family events coming up), including an inherited family heirloom one dating back to the 80s which she looks lovely in and fits her like a glove.

Have to say that I woke up this morning (considerably later than usual) with a sudden second of panic, wondering if I'd overlooked getting DD up in time for an exam. Thankfully a day's rest, relaxation and a bit of revision here.

This time next week most of our DC will have finished their exams. The last couple of weeks have flown by, don't you think.

SleepyMc · 16/06/2022 14:11

DS really seeming a bit knocked out, bored and exhausted by the whole thing now. Thinking of suggesting that he has a proper day off tomorrow with a view to then doing a good final push to the end. What do people think about this? He has chemistry on Monday and Physics on Thursday and, tbh, could do with revising every day but it seems like he's just done in, so maybe two good days before Monday is better than three bad ones. Would welcome your thoughts.

Stradbroke · 16/06/2022 15:00

My DS is doing a bit of physics today and tomorrow as he likes that, knows it well and it isn’t too taxing before two days of chemistry which he doesn’t like so much.
I think if I push too hard he’s going to refuse.

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 16/06/2022 15:11

DS has just got home from French which went "fine" apparently - actually I suspect it was a bit of a disaster as he hates French so did no revision but he is very pleased never to have to do it again!

@SleepyMc two good days would certainly be better than three half hearted ones in my opinion. Think they are all running out of steam a bit but at least the end is in sight.

DS has no exams tomorrow but does have a Chemistry revision lesson at school in the morning followed by leavers assembly. Only four more exams left next week but all science and maths so his stronger subjects.

andwhy · 16/06/2022 15:41

My DD has also just got back from French and said surprisingly okay, also her worst subject and very little revision done.

She is having a day off on Saturday so revision tomorrow and Sunday ready for the last 4 next week.

QueenMabby · 16/06/2022 16:21

Well done for all with exams today. Rest day for us. Spanish tomorrow - v little revision as he hates it.

We have history next week (Elizabethans) as well as physics and chem which are two of DS's favourites so bracket the history nicely.

aramox1 · 16/06/2022 16:55

I'd follow his lead @SleepyMc . Ds was home by 11 today after short history and has been gaming/eating ever since.Hoping he will do some work tomorrow as he has three heavy exams next week, but I'm sure rising will be very late. Surely his phone will wear out!
Train strikes making a right mess of next week too. Really unfortunate.
