Hi everyone, I may have missed it but cannot see a thread on this year’s 11+ for North London so thought I’d start one. Is anyone else waiting? Good luck everyone! And for anyone who sat the Forest exam this week, I hope it went well for your child.

Agree it was very crowded. I think there must have been around 40 girls going into each session, and the sessions were back to back all day.

MissScotland · 27/01/2022 09:44

Thanks @Tello. I think it was the way they did it. Inviting everyone for the same time. Felt a bit strange.

purpleturtle1 · 27/01/2022 09:52

I agree it felt a bit crowded. All the more so for us, maybe, because DD is at a state school and is the only girl from her school trying out for SHHS. There seemed to be quite a few girls in prep school uniforms who knew each other. But it’s the only private school we’re going for so I don’t have much to compare it to!
DD seems to really like the school (as do I) and I hear fantastic things about it. I don’t think there is a lot of space (it has a small footprint and I wish there was more outdoor space) but I think that’s London schools for you…
I’m really curious as to how they whittle it down to 55 (or slightly more offers - 70??) from hundreds of interview candidates. I would love to be a fly on the wall in the selection process.

MissScotland · 27/01/2022 10:04

How many days of interviews did they have? Not just yesterday?

purpleturtle1 · 27/01/2022 10:16

@MissScotland yes it was just yesterday I think. Apart from anyone who couldn’t attend due to illness, or overseas candidates.

MissScotland · 27/01/2022 10:21

@purpleturtle1
Right... so I'm guestimating not more than 100 over all...? For roughly 70 places?

justanotherdaduser · 27/01/2022 10:25

Saw it in their website somewhere that it was just yesterday.

@purpleturtle1
we had the same experience after going to a few interviews (DD in state school) , including SHHS yesterday. DD was alreadly grumbling on the way in saying, 'They would all know each other and talk among themselves' :-D

But she really liked how they handled the interviews yesterdy, this was her favourite. She had her own guide from year 10, and looks like the interviewers were quite experienced in making her feel at ease (wasn't the case in some other places)

Latest Good School Guide review says 55 places -

About 46 junior girls move to senior without taking the entrance exam, and 55 join from outside ('approaching 600 applicants')

purpleturtle1 · 27/01/2022 10:42

@justanotherdaduser ah that’s really nice to hear (from another state school parent) - my DD was exactly the same Grin I agree the interviewers yesterday seemed to do a good job - one of the first things DD said was how friendly they were.

MissScotland · 27/01/2022 10:42

Yes but for 55 to accept they will need at least 70 offer. Probably more like 75-80.

MissScotland · 27/01/2022 10:56

I just read somewhere that SHHS interview half of the candidates (they initially start with around 900 then 450 for an interview). That's quite a few. Even with the most selective schools they interview around twice than the offers they give.
Having said that, if the vast majority of the interviews took place yesterday that's not even close to 450.

Stressedmum2010 · 27/01/2022 10:58

Another state parent here. Apparently the girls all had there own guides. There is a wait list as well. The afternoon was taken up by alot of the scholarships I think. Also I think they do it on one day so parents can't tell other parents what was talked about. I think and this is only a guess that they can't offer more than 90 places? And that they probably interviewed 200-250 as each group were in there for 90 minutes. My DD said this is her favourite school. CLSG is smaller than SHHS I think alot of the schools aren't that big. Now the waiting starts.

MissScotland · 27/01/2022 11:05

@Stressedmum2010 Thanks.
If they had 4 sessions of 1.5 hours each then yes, around 200 girls interviewed. My daughter had a scholarship exam with them yesterday but it was held right after her interview. She was kept there for 2.5 hours overall.

Stressedmum2010 · 27/01/2022 11:15

@MissScotland yes I think they couldn't have interviewed more than 200. Good luck to your daughter for the scholarship exam. Well we have no more interviews thank goodness. My DD really likes shhs, she said her interviewers were all friendly even the deputy head lol

MissScotland · 27/01/2022 12:11

@Stressedmum2010 thank you, and good luck to you!
We have one more full on day this week and then it's over.

Stressedmum2010 · 02/02/2022 20:46

How is everyone feeling?
Am I the only one wishing the days away?
Has anyone been through this before so if you get an early email would it be bad news?
@purpleturtle1 my DD is from state and we have only applied to SHHS and Channing.
I just want this to be over now x

Justanothergirl19 · 02/02/2022 20:56

No, they come all at once on 11th Feb. For what it’s worth, SHHS was the first to email, at 8.28am!
Channing at 9am.

Stressedmum2010 · 02/02/2022 21:17

Thank you @Justanothergirl19. So getting an early email is not necessarily bad then. Wow that's early but that's good as I won't have to keep refreshing my emails every 2 minutes.....

Justanothergirl19 · 02/02/2022 21:25

I am thinking of it as tomorrow and then it is just one week away (as you wake up Friday and they email pretty much straight away).
Really struggling to think of anything else at the moment…

Justanothergirl19 · 02/02/2022 21:28

@Stressedmum2010 sorry I was being dense… you meant early on the day.. I understood ahead of 11th Feb. I think I am conditioned by the SW mums getting emails in drips and drabs now. I am so sad..I even keep tabs on their outcomes to pass the time!

MissScotland · 02/02/2022 21:39

Where are you guys based? We are in NW..

Justanothergirl19 · 02/02/2022 21:42

Same, I am just looking at the SW offer news to pass the time!

Stressedmum2010 · 02/02/2022 21:50

Based N. Which schools are you guys waiting for and is there one you like in particular?

MissScotland · 02/02/2022 22:00

I thought that SW released results on the 11th too 🤔

Justanothergirl19 · 02/02/2022 22:18

I am not sure where Claremont is but people are talking about it elsewhere. Friends in Surrey also received offers on different dates in early Feb last year.
