Echo that sticker, just getting through school is hard enough without the exams. She and every other child can now just get on with proper life Grin Such a bloody relief it's all over!

eaglefly · 23/08/2018 13:03

Congrats sticker. Is anybody else feeling exhausted?

Zoflorabore · 23/08/2018 13:05

I commented earlier in thread about my ds. He's 15 and just finished year 10 where he sat the English lit paper and ran out of time.

He has Aspergers and anxiety and has been worried sick for weeks.
He got a 4 which he said he would be thrilled with as he knew by not finishing the poetry paper would leave him in a scary position. He's over the moon :)

One of his friends he went with got a 1 and is devastated.

Well done to everyone's dc's!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 23/08/2018 13:09

Yes, feeling quite proud and relieved to have got him to this point - with some decent qualifications under his belt and back in for sixth form
After this it becomes increasingly down to them as I realise with DD just completing her first year at Uni
( with a first for first year in zoology)

ReservoirDogs · 23/08/2018 13:26

Have we finished this thread

ReservoirDogs · 23/08/2018 13:26

Quick name for the next thread.

How about GCSEs 2018 Let's Get the Party Started!

ReservoirDogs · 23/08/2018 13:28

So am I the first one here to play the remark card? After his fab results with 2 x A being the lowest marks one of those As was one mark off an A* so its going for a remark!!!

WhatHaveIFound · 23/08/2018 13:34

I might have beaten you to it. Filed our remark request at just after 11am. DD is now in bed, not sure if it's sleep deprivation or depression...

AlexanderHamilton · 23/08/2018 13:37

I overheard a couple of teachers suggesting maths remarks to dc who were very close to getting a 4.

Oneteen · 23/08/2018 13:47

I cant actually see the point of asking for a remark for DD's DT...the actually written exam was fine 74/80 (A*) and I cant see where an extra mark would come from...her practical assessment looks to have been moderated from 82% down to 71% and she has missed the A by one mark...I am not sure whether the whole cohorts work had been moderated down though...but its not the end of the world.

I have similar situation with French - one mark of an A - but in the whole scheme of things I am over the moon that she got a B in an exam we had asked to drop back in December given an E in her mock.

She has 8 good grades to take forward so I'll check with DD when she is home and the school sometime next week and go from there.

GinWorksForMe · 23/08/2018 13:49

How do you find out that they are one mark away? We haven’t been told marks only grades. Curious in case we should ask for a re-mark in one. Thanks

Enko · 23/08/2018 13:53

We didn't have a nice morning. DS wa 2 .5 % of remaining at his school so we are without a school for him. We went to a nearby school as were told that he had passed their % but they wouldn't agree due to him not having enough in Biology for the PE he wants to take (This is his main one)

Ended up at the school his younger sister is at where the head of 6th form by chance was the one we got to speak to. She looked shocked seeing his grades that he had not got in and after a few minutes talk managed to completely turn his outlook around. He still hasn't got a space but is signed up for this school (its a great school ofstead outstanding and we have no complaints about it for his sister) He began to look a lot more hopeful after this.

Drove home and have looked up entry requirements for the school his older sister is in and he has passed all of those So the day is looking more hopeful. For now we are aiming for the school his younger sister is in (it is 1 mile down the road from his old school too) and he seems happier. Best friend has remained at their old school 2 close friends 1 is hoping to get into the school we have now applied to and the last is still waiting to hear if he can remain at his private school (on a scholarship - if not I think he too will apply to where DS is hoping for)

The crazy thing is he hasn't failed a single subject he has actually done quite well its just mostly oldfashioned B's not the A's that seems to be all that is needed..

Stressful day and so emotionally draining watching the children in the queue at the last school one of them had not passed 4 of her subjects and was in floods of tears.

Meanwhile on facebook land most of friends appear to have children who have passed with 8's and 9's only.... ho hum.

Oneteen · 23/08/2018 13:58

GinWorksForMe - DD was given paperwork from the exam boards which detailed the marks

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/08/2018 14:02

At DS's school you had to find the head of dept for the subject and they had a print out of all the marks and could tell you verbally.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/08/2018 14:03

Worried about mmmz. I hope her mum is ok.

Stickerrocks · 23/08/2018 14:09

Enko that is tough for him, because those grades should be opening up doors for him, not slamming them in his face. Is there another way that he can pursue what he wants to do by slightly changing courses? That is one advantage of the huge sixth forms we have, because they take everyone meeting the 5 x GCSE grade 4 basic requirements, then find a course which fits them.

Oratory1 · 23/08/2018 14:10

thinking the same Ellen

At DS school they were given a sheet with all their marks and grade boundaries on with a comment if the teacher though a remark was worth it. Going for a remark in physics which is one off the grade above but I told DS not to expect any change and be happy with what he got (but nothing to lose to put it in). And only bothering because to have a 9 in physics would really be something special so worth a try however unlikley it is to change

Stickerrocks · 23/08/2018 14:10

Heather Smile Star Smile

AlexanderHamilton · 23/08/2018 14:14

As dd’s Cohort is tiny teachers s were speaking individually to students who they felt were only a few marks off grade boundaries.

Stickerrocks · 23/08/2018 14:15

I've PMed a couple of you before this thread ends. Shall we move?

Enko · 23/08/2018 14:16

tnx @Stickerrocks He has slightly changed options for the school we have applied for. He really doesn't want the local college as feels its a bit of a sink school. For now we are holding hopes out for younger sisters school Something inside me gives me hope there. Tomorrow we will contact older sisters school to see what they say. There he can do all his options but I am not sure they will challenge him enough.

WhatHaveIFound · 23/08/2018 14:18

GinWorksForMe DD's head of sixth form had access to them when we went to school. HOD advised on which paper to review first.
