IM here.

Anyone heard from mmzz?

TerfTerf2 · 23/08/2018 14:21

Thanks sticker

Our teachers are spending this afternoon looking at individual marks and grades and will decide if they want to appeal marks (school pays) or suggest to parents that they might consider a 'private' remark (we pay). DS's EngLit will be scrutinised on this basis

eaglefly · 23/08/2018 14:33

I'm here too - hope all ok with mmmz

GettinTrimmer · 23/08/2018 14:38

I am late to the party...

My ds did better than predicted. I was so happy I cried!! Highest grade 8 and 7 for combined science, then 7s for History, Geography and RS, 5 for Maths, 4 for German, 6 for both English Lit & Lang.

So far only celebrated with a bag of crisps and cup of tea, but that will have to improve Cake Wine

Well done to all our dc, it's been a hard year (understatement!)

veiledsentiments · 23/08/2018 14:42

Have just checked offer letter from school. Was right, need a 6 to carry on with IT. OH and youngest will have to go to school next Wednesday to talk over her other choices. All other grades good to continue with her chosen subjects. Hey ho.

TerfTerf2 · 23/08/2018 14:44

Second travel cup of the day..,this one ain't coffee GrinGrin

Cheers! to you all GinCakeBrewWine

It is very very hard on those who have good grades but can’t stay at their own school. What sort of message does that send out to them at such a vulnerable time . Sending supportive hugs and gin and choc to anyone in this situation

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 23/08/2018 14:46

I'm here.

Perhaps we can keep this one going until September then start a new thread in Further Ed?

DS3 is easily in to his preferred sixth form so looking forward to that. Have now removed the tags from his school uniform! Grin

Oratory1 · 23/08/2018 14:52

These boys aren't into celebrating ! DS spent an hour 'socialising' at school with friends and teachers so has now crawled back into his hole - that was enough for him for the day. Is he a thread first though as he did make it onto his school website :):). No flicky hair though (though he is sort of blond) and he didn't jump in the air !!

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 23/08/2018 14:53

Checking in. I wonder how long this thread will last?

Dd was handed a remark sheet to sign with her results. She was 3 off a level 6 in English language. It would be nice if it went up because it's her only 5 at the moment but she really doesn't care that much. She's walking on air!

Well actually she's completely drained, feeling a bit sick and has gone back to bed. Grin

I'm supposed to be packing to go camping tomorrow but I might have a little nap myself. Wink

DevaDiva · 23/08/2018 14:56

After all the excitement my lovely girl is now sleeping.

School are getting her Biology remarked as she was 2 marks off a 9! She did all AQA and the only raw mark on her results sheet is Maths. She knows the Biology one but hasn't got any of the others Hmm She's been asked to go in to school tomorrow morning to talk about A-levels, she can't do the combination she wants to so they are revisiting the timetable. She's almost sure that she's going to 6th Form College instead which she has told school but they really want her to stay.

It's her decision but I'm hoping she goes to the college. It's a 75min bus ride each way vs a 5 min walk but the schools A-level track record isn't great and the college outperforms all but one (private) school in the county and the difference in average a-level grades between the college and school is B vs D.

Out to her favourite restaurant tonight and bubbly in the fridge Smile

DevaDiva · 23/08/2018 14:57

@TerfTerf2 nice 👍 I'm working from home today and finding it hard to concentrate. Sticking to the coffee for now though!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 23/08/2018 14:58

Since you are all such grade boundary experts I wondered if anyone knows any significance that DS Excel Maths (graded a 7) also says he got 155 marks.
Just wondering if they mentioned this as near a grade boundary?
No other marks included next to grades, except an M for English Language, which I guess could be a merit for speaking component.?

TerfTerf2 · 23/08/2018 15:00

I'm in a group of eight families who have known each other since our PFBs were 3-months old. There's 4 boys and 4 girls. We've seen each other through all the milestones and dramas. Two of the children are dating! The girls all got all 8s & 9s today (mostly 9s). The boys each got a mixture of 9s - 4s. They are all at one of two neighbouring mixed state secondaries. So very proud of 'our' daughters and interesting to see that statistic repeated across the country (according to BBC story)

veiledsentiments · 23/08/2018 15:01

I have teens in the kitchen drinking mojitos. Well at least it's 6:00 p.m. here!

TerfTerf2 · 23/08/2018 15:03

juggling yes the M is for Merit
If you look back on the previous thread to about 7am theres a spreadsheet from mmmz with the Edexcel grade boundaries on it. Might include the maths?

cubscout · 23/08/2018 15:03

I think it is just Edexcel that mention marks. Ds took mostly AQA but has marks for Edexcel Maths and Music on his sheet. 155 is a clear 7, 170 was the boundary for an 8.

Nothing yet from mmmz ? We need her here.....

TerfTerf2 · 23/08/2018 15:07

I guess mmmz is

  1. With her mum, (hope there isn't bad news)
  2. Pissed
  3. Doing something gorgeous with her successful child
  4. Asleep in a pile of spreadsheets dreaming of grade boundaries
JugglingFromHereToThere · 23/08/2018 15:11

Thanks everyone ( for doing the work for me! )
Just curious in case it was near a grade boundary - thanks for the detail cubscout
This is a great place to be on results day!

androbbob · 23/08/2018 15:20

I am still here too! 6th form sorted and two grades already in for remarking or whatever the term is. Just need to get actual scores for the AQA ones to see where satcin grade boundary

DevaDiva · 23/08/2018 15:23

Just found out DD did Edexcel maths which is why she has a score for that one! I have been engaged in GCSEs I promise Grin

Oneteen · 23/08/2018 15:31

Terfterf - You can add another possibility (seriously hoping its not mmmz's mum though) - mmmz's DS is refusing to go to enrol at new 6th form and is staging at sit in.

Trufflethewuffle · 23/08/2018 15:32

I posted this morning on the previous thread about DD's grades and how pleased we are.

Talking to DD just now I remembered that when she was assessed as having dyslexia, the Ed psych said that, in his opinion, DD would probably need a reader and a scribe for GCSEs and we shouldn't expect too much from her. Well, thanks for writing her off at age 11.

Oneteen · 23/08/2018 15:38

Phone call from DD to go and pick her up at 10pm tonight - so I think I will be having an afternoon nap... we had coffee together after picking up exam results and then she was off to get her nails done and visit the homeless charity they are fundraising for (odd combination).

I wish I had taken a video of her running across the school car park - saying I got an A in History!

BackforGood · 23/08/2018 15:39

Just been catching up with the pages and pages of posts from this morning. Smile
Well done to all the dc who have done well for themselves - MN does have a very skewed population though.... Grin
Been a mixed morning here. I am extremely proud of what dd has achieved - but she was a bit gutted about "only" getting a 6 in one of the subjects she wants to take on to A-level (knew she'd messed up the exam). Against that, she was very impressed with her marks in a couple of subjects she loves a bit less...... She has done so well in all subjects across the board and has now found a sixth form place in a school that will support her through the next two years.

I hope those who haven't checked in yet are OK, and to all those dc who don't achieve MN standards, I hope they realise GCSEs test how good you are at taking GCSEs, and not your worth as a person. Another door will open for those who have had doors closed this morning - it is just another route to the end destination.
