A new thread to take us through the exams

Just checked the twitter feed - it is indeed hilarious! Polarisation though about whether the paper was hard or easy. Ds says fairly hard ( but is doing food tech so not fazed by all the food questions!)

Eve · 15/05/2018 16:39

Edexcel triple here for biology - was ok apparently but lots of topics didn’t come up do DS annoyed he had revised so much and they weren’t covered.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 15/05/2018 16:40

DS3 did AQA triple science biology and had the question on eggs in water, 'because -osmosis' (hopefully he was a bit more detailed in his answer Grin ) but nothing about carrots? Maybe that was only on the combined biology paper?

EllenJanethickerknickers · 15/05/2018 16:41

Confirmation from DS3's mate Joe, carrots were on the combined AQA biology higher paper.

AlexanderHamilton · 15/05/2018 16:45

Oh heck AQA biology sounds awful. The maths bit would be fine but the sound of how the other questions were phrased would not have suited Dd.

AChickenCalledKorma · 15/05/2018 16:46

DD1's assessment of AQA Biology: there were a lot of chickens.

CatherineCawood · 15/05/2018 16:47

DD pretty pissed off that the revision guide said to revise heart structure, respiration etc but NONE of that was in the exam at all.

AlexanderHamilton · 15/05/2018 16:52

Who dates to give their kids carrots or eggs for tea tonight?

AChickenCalledKorma · 15/05/2018 16:55

Grin AlexanderHamilton Was planning an egg-based toad in the hole.
And I did just notice that we have rather a lot of carrots that need using up ...

TheSecondOfHerName · 15/05/2018 16:57

If your child sat AQA double science Biology: carrots for dinner.

If your child sat AQA triple science Biology: egg & potato pie with a glass of milk.

Oratory1 · 15/05/2018 16:58

Hmm yup a lot of things revised and not used - and are they meant to know that osmosis happens in eggs !! Haven't spoken to DS yet - don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing but another one down. Hopefully the time will pass quickly now - roll on mid June.

Good attitude Sos - sounds like she is doing fine.

BlueBelle123 · 15/05/2018 17:00

Ds did Edexcel triple biology, said it was ok only just finished in time, answered all questions but whether what he put would be on the mark scheme he wouldn't like to say Grin

PE tomorrow!!

Oratory1 · 15/05/2018 17:00

I think my greeting to DS when I pick him up will be do you fancy boiled eggs for tea.

brainmelt · 15/05/2018 17:01

Feedback on Bio Edexcel IGCSE: 3 questions involving difficult maths calculations (past papers had one easy one?) One Darwin question about Darwin and the Galapagos. Overall DS happy with it.
French: fine, but listening format had changed for last question?

Stickerrocks · 15/05/2018 17:06

Feedback on biology: Have you got the access code yet for the Shawn Mendes pre-sale!

Well, I suppose it could cover reproduction, genetics, amoeba...

sandybayley · 15/05/2018 17:08

Edexcel biology ok. Rhino question confirmed along with measuring.

He thought some of the questions required 'thinking' from geography (deforestation) and Maths. I think I've heard before that this has happened on biology exams. Do they're required to think a bit more and not just regurgitate facts.

Onto history tomorrow..,,

TeresasGreen · 15/05/2018 17:12

DD seems happy enough. She was roaring with laughter at some of the Twitter comments. She just said “eggs, osmosis, why?”. Grin

TheSecondOfHerName · 15/05/2018 17:14

Have received the update from DS2: French went really well. Biology went well, but he had to rush to write everything he wanted to include, and he's worried the examiners won't be able to read his writing (a valid concern). Sadly, Biology isn't one of the exams he is allowed to type.

Teenmum60 · 15/05/2018 17:15

Brainmelt - DD said the same about the last question on French listening ...was the Darwin question on Biology the last question?

So pleased to say that French is now finished!

beenrumbled · 15/05/2018 17:26

DS1 reports French listening was difficult (expected), French reading was good too.

He has said the AQA Biology (Triple) was really good - he said he checked it all through twice and was happy. Seeing all the feedback I'm now worried he missed something!!

brainmelt · 15/05/2018 17:27

sandy DS says about 50% of the marks is for regurgitated facts. Rest requires thinking and calculating?
teen I don't know if the Galapagos thing was the last question sorry. No idea if he got the rhino question right. DS prefers to get on with revision for the next paper so we don't dwell too much... I never mention the student room because that way lays madness...

Idontmeanto · 15/05/2018 17:29

Dd say aqa triple science biology. Something to do with monoclonal antibodies it sounds like she totally cocked up, but the rest were okay apparently.

BlueBelle123 · 15/05/2018 17:32

DS has gone for a lie down he is shattered and he's only done 2 exams out of 23 Grin, 4 left to go for this week!

I don't think he will be doing much revison for PE's exam tomorrow.

JufusMum · 15/05/2018 17:36

DD did AQA Combined Biology. I mentioned carrots, she went "oh yeah lol" and laughed. She said it went really well but loads of Maths in it. Paper two RE tomorrow crossing everything for a better outcome than paper 1.

Teenmum60 · 15/05/2018 17:38

Early night for me ...I was always wake up so early in the summer..no exams for DD tomorrow...4 down 13 to go ...
