Tearing my hair out over State boarding

As I'm a single mum with a demanding job , I have decided to look into state boarding preferably weekly if I can get my ds a place . Christs hospital is my number 1 choice due to the bursary and it's a great school ( my brother is an old blue so slightly biased ) am also looking at RAAs in Reigate and Gordon's in Woking got open days at both saturday and next thursday out of the 2 would prefer Gordon's as a fall back if we cant get into CH , but have been advised that I can claim tax credits towards the 'childcare ' bill .

Have quizzed Gordon's as to chances of getting in I live in teddington so the right side of London but they said it obviously depends on siblings etc .( no really fair if you only have one can see why there's sibling priority in primary but not at secondary as kids get themselves to school but those are the rules ) am a little hopeful to read someone got in last year from east London ? any thoughts about gordons ??? im just about tearing my hair out as need a boarding place otherwise my sond going to be forced to become a latch key kid which I don't want HELP !!!!

OP if you are pursuing the Boarding route you might want to look at Holyport College the new boarding and day free school sponsored by Eton. It's not open yet so is a bit of an unknown quantity. It's in Berkshire so not too far from you.

op , you may want to read this before you commit yourselves and raise questions about on-going funding at your meeting. wwyd if that aspect closed down in a couple of years or the school went independent for example?

Thanks Lizs for the info was interesting have only applied for gordons SB and they only have 32 places !!! was watching the video clip below about holyport ? Just sound like the poor relation to Eton ....

Just read the holyport admissions info they are only taking 40 kids in sept ? Including only 18 boarders plus they are only giving 4 bursaries !!! that that's shared with y9 entry but the fees are pretty affordable £3800 per term so there's going to be a scramble no doubt ....

I hope you've got a local day school as a back up plan, those odds sounds very tight.

Teddingtonmum1 · 28/11/2013 10:21

I didn't apply as the applications have closed plus we wouldn't have had a figs chance !!.

I need to go to Specsavers! I thought you were tearing your hair out over skateboarding!
Thought you were having problems with a kickflip or something!

Teddingtonmum1 · 28/11/2013 22:58

Please please don't tell me you didn't put down Teddington Sad You do realise that if you didn't and everything else falls through all they will offer you is TA (if there are spaces) or RPA, the only one where there will almost certainly be spaces. It is rapidly improving, and I think it does have a Homework Club etc. but it's a shit journey, your DS won't need an after school club because he will be on the 33 and all his friends will live 5 miles away.

Turing is a separate application this year but it is popular, a fantastic leadership team, very well respected locally, all that is lacking is an announced site, but that is in the interests of commercial sensitivity on the negotiations. You might miss out on distance though, it is measured from a point just west of Twickenham Green. Although all the open meetings have finished for now, and they were well advertised, even on the back of buses and across the main street in Twickenham, hardly a low profile, they are very responsive to people's communications and questions. www.turinghouseschool.org.uk/index.php

Hi
No I didn't put down teddington . BUT I did put down Turing house for what its worth even though they still are not saying where the site is !!!
I was also wondering because of the catholic school opening in sept maybe there's a shout of Orleans park :( we are 1.4 miles away.
think I'm going on holiday for 1st march to get away from the drama !!!
