Hi all

I have decided to restart this thread good luck for friday!!!!

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 24/02/2012 07:18

I shall try it at breakfast tomorrow: DSs, if you do these 5 sums you can have free toast!

stresshead67 · 24/02/2012 12:43

Thank you all for your input.... white soled trainers not such a big deal, my ds currently needs them for his PE lessons now will call up T and get a uniform list.......

Caoimhe · 24/02/2012 13:16

Stresshead, the school will send you a uniform list (plus mountains of other paperwork) later on.

SoupDragon · 24/02/2012 13:23

And there will be a secondhand uniform sale at the "New Parents/Boys Morning"

Suttonmum1 · 24/02/2012 14:28

DS has been offered Trinity place so now getting down to the gritty details. Reading posts here am I right in thinking that boys on school buses might not get to school in time for early morning activities? What time does early morning stuff tend to start and does this prove to be a problem? Thanks

SoupDragon · 24/02/2012 15:35

DS1s bus arrives at school at something like 8:10 I think, maybe a little earlier. Hard Sums (and Very Hard Sums) both start at 7:45 am and there are two other things that regularly start at 8 but most regular activities are at lunch or after school.

Decision made: DS2 will be going to Trinity as expected :)

SoupDragon · 24/02/2012 15:37

I can only think of one occasion where DS1 had to be dropped at school early and that was last term for a Latin trip to Fishbourne where he had to be there for 7:30am Shock. I think that there were sometimes swimming commitments early as another boy on DSs bus sometimes wasn't on it, but he was a competitive swimmer.

LIZS · 24/02/2012 16:06

Have heard of one sports scholarship to T and one (fairly significant) academic to W at 11+. Did you manage to negotiate, soupy ?

SoupDragon · 24/02/2012 16:39

I did indeed. :)

I also found out DSs exam scores which were interesting - he scored twice as much in Maths as he did in English. Hmm

Seeline · 24/02/2012 16:54

Do many boys use the school bus Soup or do most use public transport? Are any dropped off by parents or is that tooo embarrassing/not practical in terms of number of cars/parking etc? Just debating for DS who will be Y6 rahter than 11+ - I don't trust him to cross the road yet, let alone cross Croydon on two buses Grin

Ladymuck · 24/02/2012 17:18

Wasn't it the English that you were tutoring him for Soupy?!

Um, that's an impressive gap! I'm assuming that he did very well in maths!

SoupDragon · 24/02/2012 17:26

No, it was English I was attempting to tutor him for and which he flatly refused to have anything to do with. It generally involved a lot of shouting and very little English comprehension :o

Yes, he did very well in maths and very badly in English. Although at W his English was fine... Hmm Probably because he could do a descriptive piece of writing rather than a story. Thankfully they aren't worried about it as he is clearly not thick.

I don't know about the transport TBH, Seeline. I think one of DSs friend was dropped off there when in Y6 so it isn't social death (Y7 DS was happy to be picked up from school too so I guess they don't care).

It was the whole two bus scenario that meant I picked DS up from school. However, now he's got it sussed, DS2 will be doing it from day 1 :) I'm happy paying for the bus to get them to school though as it ensures they are either there on time or that it isn't their fault they were late.

Seeline · 27/02/2012 10:51

Decision made
Finally decided to accept the offer from Trinity Grin
Guess the fun really starts now!

SoupDragon · 27/02/2012 10:54

:)

TBH, I am beginning to err towards Whitgift after this weekend. Mainly because they will be offering boarding...

Seeline · 27/02/2012 10:56

Grin Soup!!

I sooo know what you mean!
Perhaps we could push for it at T too?

SoupDragon · 27/02/2012 10:59

It's either that or [menacing glare] a new patio.

Ladymuck · 27/02/2012 12:29

I have the option of adhoc boarding. Very popular in the Fifth form apparently. They take their mocks, then board for the rest of term. Full day at school, an hour of sport/music/drama 4-5, tea, then prep, apparently including supervised timed practise papers.

Just eye wateringly expensive.

SoupDragon · 27/02/2012 13:01

Sometimes, it is worth the money.

LIZS · 28/02/2012 08:19

LM ooh , didn't realise they could board ad hoc, interesting .

Ladymuck · 28/02/2012 09:26

[faints in surprise] But it is one of the school's main selling points! Book your child in for 2 weeks in May before school exams: they sort out revision, you and dh go somewhere exotic, come back refreshed to well prepared students. What you save in terms of a cheaper holiday easily covers cost of boarding as well as helping with the school bill.

SoupDragon · 28/02/2012 10:55

I'm currently trying to find out of DS2 can kip in the currently redundant Trinity chicken coop.

Asterisk · 01/03/2012 08:46

Oh no! I liked the chickens. What happened to them, dare I ask? The boys had chicken nuggets (fully expected peacock nuggets) on exam day. Just saying.

Seeline · 01/03/2012 09:11

Just wanted to say that I'm thinking of all of you waiting on secondary school application outcomes today - hope all goes well Smile

SoupDragon · 01/03/2012 09:14

Foxes.

Allegedly.

SoupDragon · 01/03/2012 09:14

On the Croydon website it say that the secondary results will be sent by email "this evening"!
