Israelis are quite good at protecting themselves.

Which kind of explains why the Palestinians were never able to return to their homeland.

Since the start of current hostilities, nearly 6000 inhabitants of Gaza have perished. 4 times the number of Israeli deaths.

And so it will continue. The world knows this is wrong, but the strategic importance of Israel trumps everything.

You know you are using fatality rates provided by Hamas, right? Such gullibility

ssd · 25/10/2023 09:18

How easy to say hamas hides in civilian areas, therefore the bombing of these areas and high numbers of deaths is justified. I guess this is your explanation when you say "we have told you" @SharonEllis?

How convenient to account for thousands of children killed, thousands of families wiped out, thousands of homes destroyed. 5500 killed and at least double wounded was the last i read. No accountability either, just an excuse as hamas are hiding there. But no one is falling for this anymore, no matter who visits Israel and shakes the hand of Netanyahu. My Jewish friends are sickened with this destruction. The world is watching this in horror. And repeatedly bringing up "well hamas started it" just reinforces the ignorance about the current situation. People know the hamas attack was barbaric and abhorrent in the extreme. But the response has been and continues to be next level. Someone told me yesterday that Israel aren't carpet bombing Gaza when i said they were. Then the news said 400 bombs had been dropped in Gaza in 24 hours. The person didn't respond to this fact. Because there are no words. No justification.

I saw on channel 4 news last night that hospitals in Gaza are starting to close now, they showed one hospital that had closed that day. They have run out of fuel. They also showed the aftermath of bombing in the south of Gaza - where civilians had been instructed to go by the IDF!
It’s unforgivable. The Israeli government thinks it’s sending a message to Hamas and the rest of the world about how strong they are, actually they are just showing the world their total disregard and disrespect for Palestinian lives.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 25/10/2023 10:36

I am repulsed by the horrible attitudes on here that casually dismiss jewish deaths and blame Israel for what Hamas do. It is nothing but anti semitism.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 25/10/2023 10:53

Nobody has said the deaths are 'justified'. You @ssd you have casually dismissed jewish deaths as if its their own fault. It's disgusting.

WarmWinterSun · 25/10/2023 11:13

Horrible horrible antisemitism on this thread. I am so ashamed by the reaction of many towards the Israeli people. I am dismayed by the killings on both sides but the antisemitism towards the Jewish people is really stark and disturbing on these threads. The attack on Israel was their 9-11, clearly a genocidal terrorist attack. Many of the attackers had taken drugs to help them commit the atrocities, babies and children were murdered, pregnant women were murdered, women and girls raped. Most of the innocent Jewish hostages are still held against their will in the tunnels built by Hamas.

Yes we can and should talk about what is happening in Gaza and the lives of Palestinians, but this discussion must start with recognition of the unspeakable evil that took place on 7th October.

It's not 'convenient'. It's horrific and devastating that Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah and Iran care so little for Palestinian lives. They are literally cannon fodder. The definition of carpet bombing has nothing to do with the number of bombs in a timescale. It's indiscriminate bombing on a large scale across an area - as if a carpet of bombs had been dropped. Israel targets Hamas. I too am appalled by the horror and destruction but I don't think you have once told us what Israel should do in response to the barbarous Oct 7 attack, or regular rocket attacks, or Hamas & its allies stated intention to destroy Israel and Jewish people.

If people believe there are anti semitic comments on this thread, then report those posts to MNHQ, they will deal with it.

Calling everyone and anyone who criticises the Israeli government for the slaughter of Palestinians anti semitic doesn’t wash.

Calling people anti semitic for being anti semitic and blaming Israel for Hamas murdering people, does wash though and while we should report, being silent while people are racist or anti semitic isn't something anyone should be telling other posters to do. I always call out bigotry and intolerance. It's not against guidelines to do so.

ssd · 24/10/2023 22:49

Blame Netanyahu. Took his eye off the ball, now he's destroying Gaza to save face.

I did report this, MNHQ have allowed this. I feel strongly that blaming the Israel leader for Hamas murdering jews is anti semitic and feel disgusted it has been allowed to remain. It is shameful.

Where is saying "People know the hamas attack was barbaric and abhorrent in the extreme" ,as i said in my post, casually dismissing jewish deaths?

You are really clutching at straws in your determination to find antisemitism @Iwantcakeeveryday

No I am certainly not. You just said ' blame Netanyahu, he took his eye off the ball'. That is abhorrent. It is anti semitic, and callous, and I am disgusted they've allowed you to say that. Such flippant responses to the massacre of jews.

ssd · 25/10/2023 13:02

Read it how you want @Iwantcakeeveryday , you seem to have a set agenda here. If you want to see antisemitism in any post not fully supporting the destruction of Gaza then you carry on.

Absolutely this. Its always right to call out bigotry. And noone has called everyone who criticises Israel antisemitic. It is perfectly possible & right to criticise the Israeli government without being antisemitic but antisemitism clearly underpins the complete disregard for the jews who died in the massacre & the idea that Israelis are powerful & blameworthy compared to poor innocent palestinians - and racist towards palestinians as well as jews to ascribe agency only to israelis. Its web of stereotypes & dog whistles. I think people are wilfully naive about this. Read David Baddiel, David Hirsh & others. I used to be anti-Israel too - its important to understand and unpick your own prejudices

ssd · 25/10/2023 13:35

I haven't seen one post here that disregards the jews that died at the massacre? I have only read of the repulsion people feel about it. Where are the posts dismissing people who were brutally killed??

OP posts:
WarmWinterSun · 25/10/2023 13:45

@ssd

I’m not sure if you are sincere or trying to be difficult. It’s impossible to tell on a forum like this.

The suggestion in prior posts that the Israeli government wanted an excuse to kill Palestinians and saw the brutal massacre in Israel as an opportunity is deeply offensive. The many posts which rail against what is happening in Gaza without first recognising the terrible and unthinkable genocide committed in Israel, which of course is all related, is also antisemitic by omission. It is a bit like the racism we see in the media where tragedies involving white people are reported more than tragedies involving people of colour, and if course that omission is racist. One instance of this is easy to miss but over time it becomes evident. The Jewish community in the UK is deeply upset by this right now because they can see the antisemitism as clear as day. Of course for them it is now becoming overt as well, with security required at Jewish schools, etc.

I am really ashamed of how the response has played out in the UK.

WarmWinterSun · 25/10/2023 13:54

@ssd

I think this post of yours is pretty antisemitic, not very hard to find:

’People know the hamas attack was barbaric and abhorrent in the extreme. But the response has been and continues to be next level.’

There is no ‘next level’ to the brutal genocidal slaughter of Israeli babies, pregnant women, the elderly, children, innocent civilians and the rapes of women and girls, and the abduction of hundreds who are still being held in captivity.

Death in Palestine right now is deeply troubling. I take no issue with and understand the importance of expressing dismay about the death and suffering of innocent Palestinians. However you minimise the abominable genocide of 7th October by saying the response in Gaza is ‘next level’. This is deeply and utterly offensive.

Killing Jews is not on a lesser level and it is not a lesser evil.

Shame on you.

That’s because it has been deleted. But it has been quoted by other posters.

GoldenHurst · 25/10/2023 14:10

@WarmWinterSun
I agree.

It’s so depressing and shocking.
Apparently it’s ok for British Jews to feel intimidated in the UK in 2023 because the UK is a wealthy country and can afford security.
It’s shameful.

@ssd works in Glasgow.
As well as the deeply unpleasant sectarianism that still exists in Scotland there are many Celtic fans who have a natural ‘affinity’ with Palestine ie the flag waving morons.
It seems from some of the comments on this thread that this ‘prejudice’ is so ingrained that despite the horrific, terrorist acts carried out on October 7th by Hamas, there is absolutely no understanding of the position of Jews whether in the UK, Israel or across the world.

winowin · 25/10/2023 14:45

Everyone in support of Palestine and against the attacks from Israel.

What do you think Israel should do?

Read it how you want @Iwantcakeeveryday , you seem to have a set agenda here. If you want to see antisemitism in any post not fully supporting the destruction of Gaza then you carry on.

The only agenda I have is to call out any bigotry and that includes your obvious anti semitic views a number of posters have also called out, which seek to minimise or ignore entirely any suffering by jewish people, and indeed blame their own leader for it.

The suggestion in prior posts that the Israeli government wanted an excuse to kill Palestinians and saw the brutal massacre in Israel as an opportunity is deeply offensive.

This ^ Deliberately offensive I would add. @ssd you know exactly what you're doing. I am frankly appalled in MNHQ for allowing these views but then in the context of this country and the anti jewish behaviour going on, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Everyone in support of Palestine and against the attacks from Israel.

What do you think Israel should do?

Stop bombing, and ask other Middle Eastern countries to help broker a deal to
A: get the hostages freed
B: help negotiate a longer term solution - which will require compromise from both sides.

This would feel like a huge climb down for the Israeli government, and would require egos and personal political ambitions to be put aside. All perfectly possible but highly unlikely.

winowin · 25/10/2023 15:48

But haven't Israel offered a solution of 2 states numerous times but Hamas are not interested?

All they want is the destruction of Israel and all Jews.

So what do Israel do?
