(As a non Scot who's posted on here before) I don't understand why he's got rid of the Greens in the first place and trashed the BH Agreement? I understand "credibility" but can anyone explain/speculate a bit further? What did he think would come of it? Was he really expecting PH and LS to go, quiet as lambs?

TheBelmont · 26/04/2024 11:00

Oh now Labour have upped the anti the a vote of no confidence in the entire Scottish government.

I think it was a ridiculous case of better to be the dumper than the dumpee? The greens said they would ballot on whether to come out of it themselves which was a bit of a threat to SNP…he’s called their bluff and ditched them before they could. i guess his ego wouldn’t have allowed him to be dumped (and it’s arguable whether they would have actually had the balls to quit themselves anyway). Playground tactics

Presumably so that they couldn't be the ones deciding to do it. It's why he'll likely walk rather than face a vote of no confidence.

[cross-post with Belmont!]

Ah, the imploding of the SNP. I am so here for this.

treadingonlego · 26/04/2024 11:06

Also still patiently waiting to see if Nicola Sturgeon will be charged...

Well that would just be the cherry on the cake indeed!

Thank you! I just would have thought being dumped would have been less explosive. It feels more like he's just sort of giving up.

ArabeIIaScott · 26/04/2024 11:10

Honestly, it feels like a relief to have this creaking circus finally brought back to earth. Its been rotten at the top for far too long.

ArabeIIaScott · 26/04/2024 11:10

Apologies for mixed metaphors.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 26/04/2024 11:17

@TheBelmont @treadingonlego hopefully this arrest will happen soon though I have heard that the advocate (you know the one I mean, her friend) has said no to charging the sturg!!! of course the murrells both know what was happening!

GoatsareGOAT · 26/04/2024 11:17

Yes Sturgeon charged & Mathieson in the sin bin for the vote would do me nicely 🍿🍿🍿

Never underestimate the ego! Would rather self sabotage than be dumped. Apparently the less humiliating option. I’m sure he views it as a demonstration of his strength. Complete tool.

Oh I've just that HY not resigning today according to an ally and "he's coming out fighting" 🥊😆

Humza to speak at an event in Dundee this afternoon. Is it too much to hope for a resignation? I’m not sure about coming out fighting. Might be a decoy to try and take us by surprise.

Jeez I really should be working but massively distracted by this soap opera today!

I’m the same - definitely not focusing on work quite as much as I should be today. It’s better than any drama on the telly!

Scottishskifun · 26/04/2024 12:33

This is the best lunch break I've had in a while! 😂 🍿 didn't think it would implode this quickly fair play to Labour!!!

mibbelucieachwell · 26/04/2024 13:02

Can the Labour Party enforce a vote of no confidence in the govt?

They can call one with enough support and (according to Wings…I am no legal expert ) if this passed and the vote of no confidence in the Scottish government carried, HY would be required by law to step down.

Just heard a short update on the radio news while I was in the car. Apparently Humza is hoping that the Greens will support him!

I laughed so much I'm lucky I didn't crash the car!

A minority party ended up being the tail that wagged the dog.

There are a whole load of exceedingly good reasons to dump the greens, but in this case it was getting in first before the greens dumped him.
