No defender of useless but I wonder if it was the sheer concentration he had to deploy to say the right thing made him practically robotic

medianewbie · 25/04/2024 09:24

Well, thats the Green Party off then.
SNP is a Minority Govt now. TFFT.

Good.

They have been a minority government before. Hopefully this means the Scottish Parliament regains some relevance in Scottish Politics and the scottish government have to start justifying debating/selling their policies there rather than just imposing them.

Does this impact the make up of committees?

apples24 · 25/04/2024 09:34

Good riddance!

IWillNoLie · 25/04/2024 09:35

Will be interesting to see how Greens behave when not constrained by cabinet responsibility. It may be an excellent time to ‘let them speak’!

Zapss · 25/04/2024 09:44

My theory is the Greens were so flamboyantly idiotic than the Nats felt that they themselves couldn't compete.

IWillNoLie · 25/04/2024 10:08

The Greens only joined the Ship of Fools three years ago. The SNP have pushed trans activism much longer than that.

guinnessguzzler · 25/04/2024 10:22

Wow! This is big news, definitely keen to see how it all plays out.

TheBelmont · 25/04/2024 12:37

Funny…a pre-emptive move by SNP? Dump them before they dump you? The whole thing is so ridiculous. But lovely.
if there is a vote of no confidence as Douglas Ross is promoting, could that lead to a collapse of gov without the greens supporting SNP?

OP posts:

I googled…
”No confidence motionsA no confidence motion is a motion that says some MSPs do not have confidence in a government minister, the First Minister, or all Scottish ministers.
If the motion gets support from 25 MSPs the Parliamentary Bureau schedules it for debate. MSPs will discuss the motion in a debate and vote.
If MSPs vote to pass a no confidence motion about all Scottish ministers, it could lead to a Scottish Parliament election.”

Rainbowshit · 25/04/2024 13:47

Oooh. Wonder which way the greens would vote?! Voting to say no confidence could mean the end of their jobs and independence but voting to say they have confidence in the government having just been dumped would make them look foolish. 🍿

TheBelmont · 25/04/2024 13:51

I suspect they will abstain…cowards!

OP posts:
annabelindajane · 25/04/2024 14:47

I think they will abstain but maybe they’ll put their money where their mouths are and we can rid ourselves of this blight on Scotland. Preview Patrick still bleating on about transgender rights - I just can’t bear it .

Rainbowshit · 25/04/2024 14:49

If they abstain the SNP will win the vote right?

ArtfullyCrumpled · 25/04/2024 15:04

The Greens are certainly in the mood to back Douglas Ross's motion. They're bloody raging!

Unfortunately not. The tories played it a VONC in the FM instead of VONC in SGov. It will just mean a new leader of SNP will be elected and that will be ratified in parliament.

mibbelucieachwell · 25/04/2024 15:22

Wow. So Kate Forbes could be the next FM after all!

Quite a change.

mibbelucieachwell · 25/04/2024 15:28

What I don't understand is

The SNP govt decided it would be better to scrap a target than make their excuses explain when the time comes why it wasn't possible to meet their target. (I mean everything else is the fault of the Westminster government so could they not have made a case for this being their fault too) With the result that their own actions could potentially bring down the FM.

Are they politically inept as well as generally incompetent? Wow.

ArabeIIaScott · 25/04/2024 15:34

Are they politically inept as well as generally incompetent?

That is the generous interpretation.

This isn’t about the climate change targets. There was barely a whimper from the greens when that was announced. Climate change became the excuse when the Rainbow Greens called a vote on the BHA over Cass and even the Greens realised that was bad to use as a reason for pulling out.

The Scottish conservatives might not consider it the best time for them to enter an election. They currently have 31 MSPs. Though keeping Humza as FM might have been a better strategy for a general election.

Rainbowshit · 25/04/2024 16:37

It's a shame Labour didn't bring the VONC. They would expect to retain seats if it brought an election.

Scottishskifun · 25/04/2024 16:39

@mibbelucieachwell think the climate report showed it wasn't achievable and they couldn't blame Westminster for it!

As much as I dislike the current FM is good at shining a light on how incompetent they are which in turn is good for elections and gives a stronger chance of Westminster vote out with lower SNP at Parliament and therefore the referendum crap can go away longer. Kate Forbes is actually competent and pretty well liked so it's better in the short term (aka after a GE) that he stays if we are looking at this tactically!
