My friend changed both passport and driving licence without having a GRC.

It's an extra step they DO need if they want to access single sex spaces where vulnerable women and children are.

its the GRC that will legally prevent organisations utilising the single sex exemptions in the Equality Act to keep people of the male sex out of female only spaces.

you are exceptionally naive if you believe that there aren't a small but dangerous minority of men out there who will find any loophole to gain access to vulnerable people.

I remember during section 28 in the 90s gay people were smeared in the same way. Gay teachers would be paedophiles. Straight people wouldn't be safe in swimming pools!!

And our MSPs in the SNP, Scottish Greens, Lib Dems and Labour don’t want any barriers in place even to sex offenders receiving a GRC.

So your lovely trans friends delight comes at the expense of making life more dangerous for the most vulnerable members of society including disabled women requiring same sex carers, elderly women, women in hospitals and female prisoners now sharing prisons with violent male sex offenders.

Saddened your friends are so selfish to think that’s a price worth paying for a falsified birth certificate.

It’s surely normal to feel your body is weird and doesn’t fit you whilst starting or going through puberty? It’s normal not to identify with “gender norms” Look at 1970 &80s childhood photos - as a girl I had a bowl cut and brown dungarees and played with normal coloured Lego.

I think you will find a strong correlation between women who were anti section 28 and women who see the flaws in the GRC.

and well done for highlighting the point I was trying to make that men who want to abuse will find any loophole. Good safeguarding procedures are in place now in response to abuses by men in positions of trust.

The GRC / Self ID stuff blows those safeguarding procedures apart. It creates loopholes for men who want to abuse them.

The problem is men, some men, men who have now been given extra opportunity to attack and assault vulnerable women without any checks and balances.

Th problem is male violence. As a class, males are high risk. Which is why my loveoy DH who is not a threat to women at all and would never hurt anyone is, quite rightly not allowed in female spaces. Because he is male. Transwomen are male. Males who go and get a GRC by filling in an online form are male.

Also @BedTaker can we please dial this down to some sort of reality check- it's not the main issue. Violence against women is absolutely systemic and we should be fighting this as a sisterhood. You're oddly incurious re: the ins and outs of transition for someone who was following this legislation so closely.

Why is it that vulnerable women are the ones that are required to take the risks and be accommodating whilst men and in particular predatory men don't just stop being abusive, violent and rapey? How about Scottish government come up with some legislation about that instead?

Especially Scottish legislation which comes from a completely different perspective from English legislation.
