This Bill goes to parliament for discussion on Tuesday.

If you'd like to write to your MSPs to raise the issue of women's rights and/or children's rights, here are some useful ideas for points to raise/form letters:

@BinBandit I appreciate these are people who will be worried by this legislation but in reality they need to find solidarity with trans people rather than othering them. We're all in this together as oppressed groups.

BinBandit · 22/12/2022 21:25

It's legislation that affected the rights of women for no good reason. Legislation that potentially benefitted a tiny proportion of society in any kind of positive way and yet negatively affected at least 50% of the population.

But you just get your popcorn out- utterly vile.

Justtoshare · 22/12/2022 21:26

I have written to my UK MP (Scottish Conservative) to ask him to ask the UK Government to intervene. Presumably Kemi Badenoch wants to intervene? What about Rishi though? I bet Rishi's Mum would want to intervene in his shoes.
Time to stand up for women's sex-based rights as promised in his leadership campaign.

I'm not worried, I'm fucking furious.

You are not alone....

promisetobehave · 22/12/2022 21:28

Ok @BinBandit I disagree because I need your source. There is very little to back this

promisetobehave · 22/12/2022 21:29

BinBandit · 22/12/2022 21:30

You can look it up just like you've looked up all the stuff you've quoted - I'll post my sources when you give me the stats that back up your 5 men statement.

promisetobehave · 22/12/2022 21:31

Sorry have been trying to post this ..

You'll also find that it's not woman that need to get together in solidarity. There are many many men in solidarity with women on this issue. I live with 3. As a population in Scotland the majority are not for this legislation and men are also angry that women have been sold down the river.

promisetobehave · 22/12/2022 21:40

I'm sorry @BinBandit but people in Scotland just dont really mind so much about trans stuff.
They just don't.
We still need to fight male violence wherever it occurs.
It might be good to look around and think about how much time has been wasted on this tiny issue. It's been a fabulous distraction from the relentless tide of mysoginistic murder and violence.
Let's get together in solidarity against male violence. Don't be a fool for this divisive nonsense. Fight violence wherever it occurs against women or those who identify as women.

The 'oppressed groups' comment put me in mind of this part of Ash Regen's superb speech during the debate -

'We're not going to be able to tell [who is genuine]. This now creates a situation where member of a dominant group can self-ID into the rights of an oppressed group. And this is absolutely unprecedented'.

Rainbowshit · 22/12/2022 21:40

promisetobehave · 22/12/2022 21:21

@BinBandit its legislation, so it's never going to look for the outliers.
Especially Scottish legislation which comes from a completely different perspective from English legislation.
Justice is seen as impartial.
If you'd like me to actually identify these 5 mythical men sorry ...

Legislation SHOULD be looking for the outliers! That's how safeguarding works FFS.

That's why all handguns were banned in response to one incident in dunblane.

That's why DBS check were brought in because of ONE man.

You are utterly clueless, and how dare you talk about apartheid. Males are excluded from female spaces for good reasons. It's not discrimination to do so.

promisetobehave · 22/12/2022 21:42

@Rainbowshit please tell me what these spaces are

Rainbowshit · 22/12/2022 21:42

When trans people show solidarity with the needs and rights of females then we can talk. Just now they are riding roughshod all over and destroying everything we have built.

Rainbowshit · 22/12/2022 21:43

promisetobehave · 22/12/2022 21:42

@Rainbowshit please tell me what these spaces are

Rape crisis centres for one. Women's shelters exclude all males for very good reasons.

Need me to go on?

exwhyzed · 22/12/2022 21:45

promisetobehave · 22/12/2022 21:42

@Rainbowshit please tell me what these spaces are

Women's prisons
womens refuges
women's hospital wards
womens changing rooms
womens rape counselling services

for someone so woke you seem very asleep on these things.

promisetobehave · 22/12/2022 21:45

@Rainbowshit they don't exclude anyone who's been raped

exwhyzed · 22/12/2022 21:47

promisetobehave · 22/12/2022 21:45

@Rainbowshit they don't exclude anyone who's been raped

That's the problem...

women who have been raped by men don't want to go and talk about their rape by a man with men there.

are you new to this stuff?

Rainbowshit · 22/12/2022 21:48

promisetobehave · 22/12/2022 21:45

@Rainbowshit they don't exclude anyone who's been raped

There is separate provision for women and men. They advertise roles using genuine occupational requirements in the equality act as women may be retraumatised by men being around them.

Jesus do you know anything about anything?

promisetobehave · 22/12/2022 21:50

Wow@exwhyzed I've never been called woke I'm extremely mainstream!!!
I don't think you know that in Scotland these most of these things aren't "women's "
And also the changing rooms thing... I'm never comfortable changing without a cubicle so couldn't comment

roarfeckingroarr · 22/12/2022 21:51

promisetobehave · 22/12/2022 21:05

Also @BedTaker can we please dial this down to some sort of reality check- it's not the main issue. Violence against women is absolutely systemic and we should be fighting this as a sisterhood. Let's not allow 5 bad men a year to distract us from the women ( including trans women)who are killed, violated and oppressed mainly in their own homes daily in this country.

There's no evidence to suggest that pattern male violence changes in trans "women". How can anyone know that these men in women's clothing are not one of the five mythical men? Why must women constantly centre men's feelings and need for validation over their own sex's safety?

promisetobehave · 22/12/2022 21:52

@Rainbowshit lol whut? I do t think this has any basis in the equality act at all haha 😂

Waitwhat23 · 22/12/2022 21:52

An example of a space would be a single sex rape crisis group, which is allowed to exclude transwomen, even those with a GRC, due to the single sex exemptions in the EQA 2010. Single sex rape crisis services are given as a specific example in the guidance due to some women needing such a service due to trauma. However, most of the rape crisis services in Scotland are actively choosing not to provide any single sex groups (due in part to funding conditions stipulated by the Scottish Government) and the one which is proposing to (Beira's Place) has been relentlessly targeted by those who have decided that women aren't allowed such a service, even when every other service is 'trans inclusive'. This has lead to women self excluding from services they need.
