This Bill goes to parliament for discussion on Tuesday.

If you'd like to write to your MSPs to raise the issue of women's rights and/or children's rights, here are some useful ideas for points to raise/form letters:

It's clear that our elected representatives have no intention of representing the wishes of their constituents.

With the exception of the tories and a few rogue msps they are a bunch of utter cunts and cowards. Let us not forget that although snp and green started this, Labour allowed it to happen.

I'm really pleased this has passed. I personally know two trans people one who is a woman and one who is a man. They have children and are happily married and pose no threat whatever to anyone. I only wish them happiness and celebrate with them today.

Lovely news isn't it? 🥰

lifeinthelastlane · 22/12/2022 18:53

Wow, you know a whole two trans people and can extrapolate based on that?

You are pleased that a Bill has been passed which potentially allows convicted sex offenders to change their legal sex as easily as anyone else, with no gatekeeping, thereby potentially allowing them to access female only provision?

BinBandit · 22/12/2022 19:01

But this was never about the "lovely" transpeople that you know that aren't a threat to anyone though is it? They had human rights the same as everyone else before this bill. This is about those who would abuse the rights they've just been handed, it's also about the lack of mental health care, clearly easier and cheaper just to allow self ID than actually seek to provide treatment. My Ds has three in his former friends from school, all lovely folk, wouldn't harm a fly but then they aren't convicted sex offenders....

And also those lovely people you know managed to become happy presumably without this bill?

And those women who have been raped and have to face their rapist in court and call them she/her etc

Yes very good. I know lovely trans people that are no threat too.

All the males in my family are lovely and no threat. I still don't want any of them allowed in spaces with me where I am in a state of undress.

Transwomen are male and 98% of sexual assaults are carried out by males with 80% of the victims being female. Which is why decent people allow females space away from males when they are vulnerable.

promisetobehave · 22/12/2022 19:34

Yes @Rainbowshit I'm delighted by this. In 20 years time I will be pleased to look back on it just like I was with section 28. I've no skin in the game- I'm a heterosexual married woman. But where do we start with safe spaces? First of all what actually are these- I've never been in one. Second of all the two trans people I've referenced had to act as whatever they identified with, secretly, for two years before they got recognised. I want a change to this. Why should people be closeted for years ?

Noone has to be closeted because they don't have a GRC. The vast majority of trans people don't have one.

And why would you have to be closeted while you were waiting for a piece of paper which is a "simple administrative change that only affects birth, marriage and death certificates"?

promisetobehave · 22/12/2022 19:42

That's actually quite important @ditalini if you want to get a passport, driving license or any legal documents. So having to hide your identity for 2 years is closeting.

That's bullshit. The point is that they could live and should live in their chosen gender otherwise what was the point? Did they just pretend for two years that there was nothing happening and then suddnely "come out" when they got their certificate? If that's the case then they didn't actually qualify and they/and or their therapist lied.

Just because you've never had to access a space for only woman then they aren't needed? Wow- way to go with your empathy or does that only extend to a very specific category of people.

There are many gay people who disagree with all this gobshite too you know, they are under as much threat from male violence as anyone else.

lifeinthelastlane · 22/12/2022 19:49

I don't think you understand what you're talking about. You had to "live in acquired gender" for two years - this meant you lived as Julie (if you were born as Bob) etc. There isn't anything secret about it!

AlisonDonut · 22/12/2022 19:52

Being really happy about actual sex offenders being able to dodge safeguarding checks is quite some admission.

Do UK driving licences record sex/gender? I'm not sure they do unless you actively choose to put Mr/Ms etc on it.

you can already change your gender on your passport without a GRC

name change for everything can be done by ordinary deed poll

promisetobehave · 22/12/2022 20:04

@exwhyzed deed poll is not a thing in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

That's a disgusting thing to say.

You do know that there are already women who've been attacked in prison by sex offenders pretending that they are women?

Disgusting!

you can change your name in Scotland. Whether you refer to it as deed poll or not.

This is a vile thing to say. Absolutely vile. Shame on you.

promisetobehave · 22/12/2022 20:12

@exwhyzed this is a load of absolute nonsense. I don't blame you for buying into it- initially you can think oh my god women are under threat.
But the reality is that if men really wish to abuse women going through the whole self ID process is an extra step that they don't need and it's quite easy to abuse women in the existing system! It's like saying there should be no GPs because of Harold Shipman.
Maybe there will be - or are- one or two bad actors who use self ID to commit a crime. But this doesn't mean self ID is a bad thing. It's a human rights issue that we should support as feminists. And we should have zero tolerance for ANY male abuse of women.
But women can be trans women too Smile

You can get your passport and driving license changed without a GRC. You have no fucking clue about any of this do you?

Waitwhat23 · 22/12/2022 20:13

Just as a reminder to those tittering away about 'how lovely' it all is -

An amendment to pause an application for a GRC for those charged with rape or sexual assault was defeated by the casting vote of the Presiding Officer.

An amendment which sought to prevent convicted sex offenders being allowed to change their gender was voted down.

Women are already being incarcerated with male convicted sex offenders in the female prison estate because of the SPS's appalling disregard of women.

BinBandit · 22/12/2022 20:14

Clearly one of sturgeons followers who lack the mental capacity for original thought or to think against anything the the dear leader tells them. If I wasn't so disgusted I might feel some sympathy.
