Checking in! Thanks @WouldBeGood posting on the guilt free thread is so cathartic, it must never end.

😃

I’m actually very cheery tonight. Been to the ballet and it was proper amazing.

Fully masked up audience though, including the couple in front of us who went out to smoke weed on the interval, but were double masked 🤣

No matter who's in charge they'll always be something to moan about. Thanks for new thread

If you were planning a family holiday in Scotland or North of England where would you go?

I'd love to see the NW coast of Scotland but not convinced they'd be enough stuff to keep kids amused.

I’d do Northumberland. Went for one night last year, looks lovely and lots for a family holiday @Dinoteeth

NW Scotland is beautiful but if the weather is bad then there is very little to do with children and the 500 has made it very busy road wise. We went last year and ended up driving to the East Coast to escape the rain.

Northumberland is beautiful but also has a few more indoor things to do. I find the lake district too busy.

Hello railers. I'm glad you started a twentieth thread @WouldBeGood I'm not a big fan of even numbers.

Not a big fan of odd numbers that should say!

North Yorkshire or Northumberland on the northern holidays for me. Lots to do in both areas.

Actually last time we did Northumberland we actually stayed in County Durham (near to Beamish which is a great family day out).

Thanks for new thread @WouldBeGood

Ooh I'd forgotten about Bemish, that would be a fab day out. Thanks that's swinging it. In favour of that area.
Now I just need to find some accommodation.

Very, very pleased about the mask news! My guess is the vast majority of people will drop them. Yesterday, after the news had confirmed that the mandate was going, we were at a farm park which is mostly outdoors but still has several indoor elements (gift shop, cafe etc) and I had honestly forgotten about the stupid things as literally no one was wearing them anywhere for most of the day. It was lovely to not have that reminder in (or on!) your face and just have a normal day. Later on we did spot a few people wearing them but no more than about 5% of people I would say.

Every place I have anything to do with (work, nursery, scouts etc) have sent their updated guidance making it clear it is a free choice from Monday - no one is ‘strongly recommending’ either way. My guess is they’ll drop away very quickly, as they apparently did elsewhere in the UK.

It’s a bit annoying we have to wait til Monday to ditch the snot rags. Was wanting to pop into asda for something I forgot yesterday without mask hassle, will wait til next week when I expect it’ll be sold out.
We have a large freezer sized bag stuffed with used disposable masks to cut the loops off before disposal and they don’t recycle apparently. This is our 2nd such bag and we’ve only been shopping once a week unless having an appointment in town which is rare.
I don’t dare to celebrate too much as I wonder how long before she finds some excuse to bring them back - I think the legislation is all still in place for a u turn?

Report
WouldBeGood · 15/04/2022 12:54

@Sandinyourshoes I wouldn’t worry about a mask in Asda: I’ve been in a couple of them this week maskless, no issues, plenty unmasked shoppers and staff

Glad about masks. We went to Glasgow on the train a few days ago and hardly anyone wore them once in a seat including me. Was great.

I don't think she had much choice really as people are just not wearing them neatly as much as they were.

I was in an M&S Food in Perthshire today, without a mask and I only spotted one other person without a mask. I just find it baffling if folk are literally waiting until Monday to not wear a mask? Wondering if these kind of places will continue to wear regardless and Monday as a date is irrelevant.
In complete contrast, I was in Glasgow yesterday in a coffee shop with zero folk wearing for walking in, plus in the nearby supermarket it was about 70/30% without. I literally do not care if people want to continue wearing, free choice all the way, but I do hope they will be accepting of folk who will not.

I have just had a glorious mask free day out in Edinburgh. Only challenged once when I replied, "I don't wear one."

DH wore his (good boy) but took great delight in telling the shop assistant (who looked like a keen wearer) how great it was going to be on Monday.

But isn’t that bonkers that they challenged you for not wearing this weekend, when it drops on Monday? I do find that so silly. Can’t wait for the significant event in the atmosphere/scientific data that changes at 00:00 Sunday.

Sigh. How we will look back at so much of this and think how utterly bonkers it actually was🤷‍♀️

I’m really hoping people do ditch them on Monday. It’s certainly the case in England.

I hope they do too, my fear is that people feel they need to keep making the act of faith. Fingers crossed!

A lot of my English friends seem to have gone from “it is far far too soon for the government to lift the mask rules and I certainly will keep on wearing mine whatever Boris says! #WearAMask” to not wearing them at all over the space of a month or two.

now I've caught the covid :(

Need to get some food in and fancy a farmers delivery as I've seen them advertised. Where is good for delivery of fresh fruit / veg / meat (especially a good steak pie) / eggs in the Glasgow / Dunbartonshire area?

There used to be a good fruit and veg delivery van that would take orders for fruit veg milk eggs from facebook but its stopped now

I'm sick of supermarkets getting it wrong and sending me rotten fruit in their deliveries.

So any good recommendations would help. Want to get some proper food in. DH is also feeling unwell again although testing negative so far. He only got it last month too. Can you catch it again that quick?

Checking in - I like a good rail.
Weirdly, I travelled down on the train yesterday and hardly anyone was wearing a mask yet on the return journey virtually everyone (apart from me) was. I got the daggers from the man opposite all the way, then I think he tried to get his own back on my disobedience by opening his lunch which absolutely stank the place out. Goodness alone knows what was in it but it smelled rank I hope he's got a good dose of the spoot now

Haudyourwheesht · 15/04/2022 21:39

Wow. Is this it? I was at soft play this morning and no one was wearing masks (except, randomly, DH Hmm). I think we're all done.

Do you think she can/will bring back masks or any restrictions again? Maybe over winter for example

Iv just got this fear at the back of my mind. Iv already ditched the masks, never did track and trace etc but I do worry that if she has the chance she will enforce any control she can over us.

Report
Scottishskifun · 16/04/2022 07:53

@runningpink technically yes they can as they approved the law allowing them to bring in "protective health measures"
Reality is though that they will get a big pushback especially because England are highly unlikely to do it!
I'm in no doubt if they still had a mask mandate then we would too and she only begrudgingly got rid of the legal requirement
