Bored !

I thought it was the teens and realised it’s me, I’m so bored. We live outside Edinburgh and I’m bored of traipsing round countryside, round here ( East Lothian) tho it is beautiful, I feel like I’ve done it a gazillion times. I’m bored of princes street and the royal mile. I don’t know where to go or what to do to not be bored!
There’s a slight hiccup in that Dh never wants to go anywhere, so I get exhausted trying to suggest stuff and motivate. And I run out of suggestions.
The teens are mega bored and don’t want to do anything, but I’m going a bit mad. Anyone have any ideas of where I can take them, or me!

There's a very good patisserie and chocolate shop / cafe in Peebles.

Geocaching? It was a lifesaver for us during lockdown as it gives your walks purpose.

Day out looking for seals at Eyemouth/St Abbs?

Groovee · 28/12/2021 11:06

Coldingham and Eyemouth are lovely for walking

WouldBeGood · 28/12/2021 11:37

I’m bored too. No suggestions but solidarity in boredom 😃

ElephantOfRisk · 28/12/2021 11:37

Mine were generally motivated by food, so anything involving lunch or a visit to a cafe was acceptable.

PersonaNonGarter · 28/12/2021 11:39

Me too. Can’t face Dalkeith Country Park again. Might go to Vogrie. Might go to Yellowcraigs. Might go over to Glasgow. Yeah, bored. Edinburgh is so depressing.

Doorawakens · 28/12/2021 11:40

Me too - similar situatiin to you it sounds. I think i need some hobbies and also maybe join a walking group

mapleleavesreturn · 28/12/2021 12:37

Oooh me too! The kids are so bored with muddy trips to the park that they are refusing to go out daily and have to be continually coaxed, bribed and cajoled.

I've booked a hotel somewhere else for after new year, still in Scotland but just to visit a new area for a few days.

I hate the winter holidays with all the grey days and added to that the threat of increasing restrictions...

2319inprogress · 28/12/2021 16:53

The Zoo, MOD1/2, National Museum, Camera Obscura (which I hate but the teens always seem to loveConfused)

Add to a walk with orienteering (usually free) or a treasure hunt type thing (not free) or geocaching (which we don't do because my kids fight about it Hmm)

mapleleavesreturn · 28/12/2021 17:26

Used to love Nat museum but it's not the same with all the interactive stuff closed.

2319inprogress · 28/12/2021 17:49

It's really sad isn't it mapleleavesreturn also hilariously inconsistent
robot touch screen = danger
Musical instruments = fine

I could still spend at least a day in ancient peoples very happily though Smile

mapleleavesreturn · 28/12/2021 18:06

Oh I could, Hm maybe I should give it a go. Remember the new year ceilidh at the national museum with a band? Feels so long ago.

2319inprogress · 28/12/2021 18:19

Yes, like another world!

OTOH Kelvingrove without the cafe & chairs looks magnificent Xmas Grin

Justmuddlingalong · 28/12/2021 19:33

I'm so bored I've stripped the hall wallpaper. Wish I hadn't bothered my arse tbh. The walls underneath are in a shocking state. It's definitely going to take more time and money than I first imagined. 😭

emmathedilemma · 28/12/2021 22:40

I think it's because we've all spent so much time at home and confined locally in the last 2 years. A trip outside the bypass seems to have become a treat! Any cheap Premier Inn rooms around? Take yourself away for a night, let someone else cook dinner, get a bottle of wine for your room and enjoy the peace!
Day trip to Northumberland or Newcastle?

Feelingoood · 28/12/2021 23:07

Oh I’m soooooo glad I’m not the only one! It’s so nice to put something out in the air on mn and you not only reply, you get it!
I’d forgotten about a few of these things. Not sure I’ll get kids ( or dh) to them but hey, a brief flicker of possibility! Actually may get teens to mary’s close or camera obscure..been a few years since we went there!
Emmathedilemma when you said few days away my little heart cried, yes! That’s so what I want to do! A premier in. Right now sounds the ultimate in luxury! It probably won’t happen, Dh is amazing in his ability to make any plan just seem too much effort. Maybe I’m bored of him too! 🤪
Oh no justmuddlingalong that’s not fair! Maybe that thick wallpaper would work? But then wallpapering is boring too.!
2319, you are right about the inconsistency. Just went to the cinema and the health warning says to put your mask on when you walk out…so that 2 hours breathing in is OK?
Kelvin grove does sound good. Can I ask a rookie ( scared mum question) a) where do you park in Glasgow and b) are there any little independent shop cafe places? Teen dd is desperate for trendy gear. Or c) would you get the train ( seems very expensive)
A few years ago I was on my own in foreign lands now I’ve lost confidence to drive an hour! What IS going on?
Nice being bored together!

Have you done the Christmas market and rides at Princes street? We went over to Edinburgh for the weekend and they were a big hit with teen. But we usually go to Glasgow (having moved out over the summer) so Edinburgh is a change for us. We also did the lights at Edinburgh Botanics. Lovely.

We are just back from seeing family in England, which wasnt boring. Even getting trapped in a flooded hotel was exciting. But I'm totally flat and bored now we are back. So happy to join the bored club. Feeling particularly deflated as our long planned small NYE party has been pretty much clobbered by Omicron and the 3 household guidance. Honestly want to get back in the car and across the border. We nearly detoured to Newcastle on the way back. Wished we had. (Another option for you too?)

Grumpycatsmum · 29/12/2021 00:07

If you're going to Glasgow city centre parking is best at Buchanan Galleries, St Enoch or King St. Think there are also some trendy shops Merchant City way which might be suitable. If going to West End lots of streets are now dual residents/meter. Or car park on Great George st or on Queen Margaret's Drive.

Grumpycatsmum · 29/12/2021 00:10

Also, the ice skating at Kelvingrove is really good fun. Assuming it hasn't been shut and you can book a slot

Lidlfix · 29/12/2021 00:46

It's not shut I passed it today in my way I to a wonderfully empty Kelvingrove. A long queue for non ticket holders but pre booked seemed quite rapid.

thaegumathteth · 29/12/2021 00:52

Ugh yes. I'm even sick of south Queensferry which usually I like to go along to for a walk and a chippy / ice cream.

Lights at the botanics were good last week.

I hate the snow but I'm even wishing it would bloody snow just for a bit of variety!

Feelingoood · 29/12/2021 08:06

Thanks grumpycatsmum! Can’t bear another trip round Edinburgh winter wonderland! To me it’s all foreign tat and overpriced greediness.
I think it’s also that I’m sooooo booooored that am having trouble motivating myself. Been looking at premier inn Glasgow. All seems terribly daring! Too easy to talk myself out of!

Feelingoood · 29/12/2021 08:08

Thegummatheteth sympathies! Even the botanic lights are just…did it last year. Woh, need to get a grip here!

OP posts:
mapleleavesreturn · 29/12/2021 08:11

I've never liked all that winter wonderland tat either and the queues are immense. If only it would snow!

Feelingoood · 29/12/2021 08:16

Oh bollocks! Covid! Is it rife in Glasgow, should I Be Concerned?
Premier inn, actually affordable yayyyyyyyyyyy!
