Bored !

I thought it was the teens and realised it’s me, I’m so bored. We live outside Edinburgh and I’m bored of traipsing round countryside, round here ( East Lothian) tho it is beautiful, I feel like I’ve done it a gazillion times. I’m bored of princes street and the royal mile. I don’t know where to go or what to do to not be bored!
There’s a slight hiccup in that Dh never wants to go anywhere, so I get exhausted trying to suggest stuff and motivate. And I run out of suggestions.
The teens are mega bored and don’t want to do anything, but I’m going a bit mad. Anyone have any ideas of where I can take them, or me!

How do you do links again? I’ve completely forgotten Confused

giggly · 29/12/2021 10:11

I’m listening to the pouring rain in Glasgow and have just had the teen call of “what are we doing today”Hmm
Was thinking of heading to the Edinburgh botanicals to see the lights later on, is it worth it ? Years since we’ve been and might actually get lost.

Lidlfix · 29/12/2021 10:11

I love Dunbar, the (remains of the) castle, harbour and beach are worth exploring.

weebarra · 29/12/2021 10:16

Yes, Dunbar is lovely. Lauderdale Park is good for wee ones and the cafe is v nice.
The beach is good for sea glass.

Yes, it was really good although I think you need to book tickets? On street parking was plentiful and free, but beware of the insane food and drink prices!

When it's less wet (the roof leaks badly!) what about climbing at Ratho? If no one climbs yet the clip & climb is a good option. The arena is very cold this time of year so expect to buy hot choc from the cafe!
There's also great access to the canal from there for a good walk to lengthen your stay.

emmathedilemma · 29/12/2021 10:55

@giggly the botanics lights are nice if you’ve never been. It’s not cheap and I don’t think I’d go a second time for that reason. Is it not fully booked?

TheCanyon · 29/12/2021 11:01

Borders here and by fuck am I bored of hills, trees and sheep Grin I wanna see traffic, people, big buildings!

We're in isolation though so might get the painting and diy done instead... Or maybe the subscription puzzle books my mum bought me two years ago Blush

trulyconfuseddotcom · 29/12/2021 11:19

If you're in Glasgow, this is my favourite quirky attraction - even the teens might find it interesting: www.sharmanka.com/Home/Welcome.html

Susurrar · 29/12/2021 11:43

DS just announced that he wants to go somewhere on train tomorrow
I’m thinking Glasgow. I don’t really know it all that well apart from shopping/drinking trips and a couple of visits to the science museum.
Any recommendations of stuff to do/see within an easy reach from the train station? Grin

Susurrar · 29/12/2021 11:44

DS is 9 btw. So it’s got to be kid friendly stuff… TIA

Feelingoood · 29/12/2021 12:47

What’s super about this thread is the places that aren’t on the main visit Scotland site!
There’s a garden centre in east Linton smee something I’m running out of batteries with a nice walk round the lake and a cake shop. And lots of space for wee ones to run around and annoy the shoppers😂

Axe throwing?

trulyconfuseddotcom · 29/12/2021 15:45

Smeaton garden centre, lovely!

2319inprogress · 29/12/2021 16:58

@WouldBeGood

Axe throwing?
Winner! We went with laser tag guns for the house & I bet an axe is a lot bloody quieter!

TheCanyon Grin

Susurrar Glasgow Gallery of Modern Art is handy & mine always find something weird/wonderful.

Its murder trying to entertain teenagers. So much better when they are older and can entertain themselves. I cant think of anything my teens enjoyed that involved us Grin

SourMilkGhyll · 30/12/2021 10:54

Teenager 1 stayed in bed until 2pm yesterday. It rained all day. I didn't have the heart to force them to get up just to walk in the rain again Blush

Feelingoood · 30/12/2021 11:51

I know! Better weather today huzzah! But teens ( and Dp) still in bed.
Here’s hoping I can drag them out to one of these excellent suggestions! ( who am I kidding) may just do some axe throwing !
What are you up to?

Went to bonnie badger in gullane ( with chums not teens) I recommend i - very civilised - all dark blue and trendy. Almost felt human after a cocktail! ( until the bill came!) 😂😂

Had hoped to get to Glasgow today. I’m aiming for the moon next, might be easier!

I've taken a drive to pick up the steak pie. DS1 (21) still in bed. DS2 (20) away to go and pick up his girlfriend and I think do some shopping/mooching in town and go for dinner. Dh at work. I think i'll just grab a bit of lunch and do some housework. Much excitement here!

FionnulaTheCooler · 30/12/2021 12:11

We like a day out at the Kelpies too, although my DC is younger and still entertained by the big swing park at the Helix, might not hold the same appeal for teens. There's always the designer outlet centre at Livingston if you fancy a day at the sales and the weather is a bit crap.

WouldBeGood · 30/12/2021 12:16

I’ve managed to persuade DP to come for a night away tomorrow! Woohoo! Random premier inn, but a change of bloody scene!

JamMakingWannaBe · 30/12/2021 13:13

Thanks to this thread, we might take a trip to Smeaton Garden Centre. Or Klondike at Mortonhall - as that's closer.

My Primary aged kids (and I) love Almond Valley. Not sure teens would though.

Is snow tubing on at the ski centre?
