I thought it was the teens and realised it’s me, I’m so bored. We live outside Edinburgh and I’m bored of traipsing round countryside, round here ( East Lothian) tho it is beautiful, I feel like I’ve done it a gazillion times. I’m bored of princes street and the royal mile. I don’t know where to go or what to do to not be bored!
There’s a slight hiccup in that Dh never wants to go anywhere, so I get exhausted trying to suggest stuff and motivate. And I run out of suggestions.
The teens are mega bored and don’t want to do anything, but I’m going a bit mad. Anyone have any ideas of where I can take them, or me!

We walked at Bo'ness foreshore this morning & enjoyed (well mostly me!) watching the steam train. If anyone has a train enthusiast- www.bkrailway.co.uk/

The museum is pretty good too although freezing!

Feelingoood · 30/12/2021 21:25

Ooh ooh! Well DONE wouldbegood! This is great, never heard of mortonhall, or the helix. ( GoogleGoogle) and tried axe throwing wouldbegood, now I’ve got a hole in my kettle!
And have been meaning to take them to Boness since they were toddlers. Hmm, I’m not very on it!
Actually got teens out! By sheer force. Dismal trip to see dean village, doesn’t seem very big or am I missing something? But we did find a civerinos pizza slice hut thingy at portobello. Was dark and people have fires on the beach..felt alomosyt holiday ish!!
Oh god, ny eve , what do I do with them then?

emmathedilemma · 30/12/2021 21:48

Snow tubing was closed due to damage last time I checked @JamMakingWannaBe
Dean village is small, but very photogenic. I'm cursing whoever started telling the tourists about it tho!

Iamkmackered1979 · 30/12/2021 22:09

Really hated axe throwing coz I’m useless at it. What about Stirling? Wander round the shops - what’s left walk up to the monument or castle
Doesn’t overly appeal to me either now I think about it Grin

BluebellsareBlue · 30/12/2021 22:17

Dundee? The V&A, it nice, come visit me lol

Feelingoood · 30/12/2021 22:23

Iamknackered 😂😂😂😂
Bluebellsareblue I do fancy the v and a actually, there is a history of nightclub design on..? This will sound rubbish, but is it worth the drive? I was so underwhelmed with some of the stuff in Edinburgh museum. Thinking of Lego a few years ago. A few models under glass plonked in a corner. It can’t be THAT HARD to stick a few lights and posters up.
Rant over!

Is axe throwing really a thing or all you all having a laugh?!?

horseymum · 30/12/2021 22:31

If you go to Stirling, walk round the walls, adds a bit of interest. Also Bannockburn battle centre, quite good even for teens. You get to do a battle too ( computer generated)

ElephantOfRisk · 30/12/2021 22:33

It's definitely a thing @ssd blackaxethrowing.com/

ElephantOfRisk · 30/12/2021 22:50

Escape room?

2319inprogress · 30/12/2021 23:12

The Bannockburn visitor centre is closed unfortunately, has been all month. Apparently due to heating problems!
My DH loves the battle game Xmas Grin

SourMilkGhyll · 30/12/2021 23:35

Axe throwing - sounds crazy but fun.
Might reach the dizzy heights of South Queensferry tomorrow. A shame the Looney Dook isn't happening on NYDay, I suspect there will be a few swimmers there anyway.

Icannever · 30/12/2021 23:42

I second a trip to Dundee, it’s surprisingly quite nice to wonder along the waterfront and go to the v and a now. Or lots of nice walks along Fife coastal path too for a change of walk.
We are so bored yesterday we had a trip to look at sofas and ended up buying one! Entertained kids for an hour looking at tvs and speakers in curry’s. Life’s so fun.

Recommend going to watch a movie in 4dx for something a bit different. Or indoor mini golf? Quite a lot of those around these days. Bowling?

WouldBeGood · 30/12/2021 23:48

Hatchet Harry’s in Glasgow @ssd 😃

Glassisalwaysgreener · 31/12/2021 00:18

What about a day in St Andrew’s? Lunch and a walk along the beach, visit the museum and walk around the town? Way back you could visit Culross which is very pretty.

Or heading south Melrose is lovely, and Jedburgh with the abbey.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 31/12/2021 07:48

Another 'bored of Edinburgh' here. As our Christmas hols start to come to a close I've realised all we've done is eat and drink. Haven't gone anywhere or done anything really. Can't be arsed tbh and the weather isn't helping.

A while ago we walked from Elie to Crail and timed it for a lunchtime stop in Anstruther for fish and chips. Teen grumbled but was fine once we were on our way and the promise of a chippie lunch helped. I've got on my list to do the Glasgow mural walk and we've said that next year we will aim to go out somewhere new for dinner once a month and try different cuisines and styles of food. We're definitely in a bit of a rut as teen DS reaches the stage of things like bowling etc. are more appealing when done with parents instead of friends.

Might have a look at Dunbar on the back of this thread and like the idea of a day trip to Newcastle or somewhere with a cheap premier inn!

SourMilkGhyll · 31/12/2021 07:53

Agree that At Andrews is lovely for a walk along the beach and a stroll into town .

ssd · 31/12/2021 09:54

Id never heard of that Grin @WouldBeGood

JamMakingWannaBe · 31/12/2021 21:51

Ten pin bowling at the Sheep's Heid in Duddingston? Could walk around the loch and visit the Dr's garden?
(feed the ducks for those with littleies)

Feelingoood · 01/01/2022 22:56

That’s a good idea. With a walk, drag them up Arthur’s seats🤪
Now it’s nearly over and it’s gone so quickly. Managed to get them to beach for a very short, very moany walk. ! Need to plan using these good suggestions! PLEASE keep them coming! Unusual walks, wierd cafes..anything please!!
There is a dumpling shop on hope street Edinburgh that a Chinese friend said was good, also imperial palace above matthews Chinese supermarket, so am adding that to the list..and throwing it out there in case it’s useful!
Good grief I need a holiday!

DavidSPumpkins · 01/01/2022 23:07

You’ve probably done it already, and it is a bit pricier, but the Ray Harryhausen exhibition at the MoMA is excellent, with some nice interactive elements.

mapleleavesreturn · 03/01/2022 16:46

St. Andrews turns out to have an aquarium with lots of interesting animals - looks better than the south Queensferry one.

Off there tomorrow

Feelingoood · 03/01/2022 22:32

Ooh both sound interesting! let us know - the queensferry one seemed a bit..well, tatty. But haven’t been in a long time. Sad to see the demise of butterfly world.

OP posts:
Icannever · 04/01/2022 08:37

Maybe not a good option for mid winter but for an interesting walk the chain walk in elie is the best. You need to check tide times and not go at full tide but it’s great fun. There’s an ice cream shop in elie(Carole’s) for waffles on a stick with ice cream and sauce for after to make it worth while 😀

JamMakingWannaBe · 04/01/2022 11:08

I'm gutted Butterfly World is gone. I'm sure if they had done a campaign to raise funds, like Gorgie Farm, folk would have pitched in but they just seemed to close the door and start rehoming all the animals. I believe Dobbies own the land so maybe they didn't give them that option. It was a lovely place. 😔

If you are going to Fife, there is the Scottish Deer Centre. I've not been but it's been recommended to me and it's on my list for a visit.
