Bored !

I thought it was the teens and realised it’s me, I’m so bored. We live outside Edinburgh and I’m bored of traipsing round countryside, round here ( East Lothian) tho it is beautiful, I feel like I’ve done it a gazillion times. I’m bored of princes street and the royal mile. I don’t know where to go or what to do to not be bored!
There’s a slight hiccup in that Dh never wants to go anywhere, so I get exhausted trying to suggest stuff and motivate. And I run out of suggestions.
The teens are mega bored and don’t want to do anything, but I’m going a bit mad. Anyone have any ideas of where I can take them, or me!

We are fairly bored here too! Downloaded some orienteering maps for Beecraigs park in linlithgow though, that was a nice change. What about horse riding? There is a good place near tantallon castle. We have done all the walks local to us too.

Ladylunchalot · 29/12/2021 08:27

@Feelingoood not sure what Premier Inn you're looking at but can highly recommend the St Ennoch one. We stayed there for 1 night in the summer and it was perfect. So close to all the shops and as it's a new hotel it was lovely inside.
You're a hop away from the Vue cinema at St Ennoch centre that has the big comfy reclining chairs Grin

Feelingoood · 29/12/2021 08:30

Oooh Linlithgow, not been there. Will look up horse riding. Though I know it will be met with blank refusal! A friend of Dh is coming today so I will get to and clean. Then hours of polite chat to the girlfriend who I don’t know and is 20 years younger poor lass. Honestly why does he do this to me!

Oooh ladylunchalot, thank you, that sounds perfect! Will get to work on Dh today!

Can recommend Spider-Man!

Grumpycatsmum · 29/12/2021 08:34

If you're definitely coming to Glasgow there is also Rollerstop and the Climbing academy in Cessnock. Ten pin Bowling at The Quay. Recommend Paesano for pizza. Quite a lot for teens really

Grumpycatsmum · 29/12/2021 08:35

Also, Everyman cinema. You get food delivered to your seat

Feelingoood · 29/12/2021 09:00

Ooh rollers top looks good! Thanks grumpy! And ds lives for pizza.
Gosh feeling like there might be a glimmer of light at the end of the very looonngggg tunnel!
I’d suggest stuff for you guys to do here, but…! Tbh belhaven bay, yellowcraig, tyninghame, they are all amazing. Just not with teens!

Grumpycatsmum · 29/12/2021 09:16

Thanks! Hope your plan comes together. I'll check out the places you've mentioned, none of which I've been to. Always dragging children to "enjoy" The Great Outdoors, so may inflict some more pain on them Grin

Feelingoood · 29/12/2021 09:21

Pain is good for them! Tyninghame beach is nice then there is a lovely little cafe in tyninghame village.
I’m chuffed to be able to help!
Also gullane is nice. There is a good ( long) walk from the bird sanctuary in aberlady right along the beach, past a wee cave and a big Sandy slope to slide down, and back up to gullane and the clubhouse or the main event for a cuppa. This sounds fun! Why aren’t I doing it?!

Because it rains. All the time. If it's not raining, it's on a day you've already to do something indoors.
We are going to the cinema today. Indoor stuff so expensive though!
One dc still very happy to go for a walk with a playground somewhere, one (teen) hates that so am going to look into this orienteering stuff, have never tried it. Beescraig local for us.
I'm enjoying all these ideas!

SirChenjins · 29/12/2021 09:40

Edinburgh here too - and so bored. I think we’ve been to every single beach/castle/tourist attraction in East/West/Mid Lothian in the 30 years we’ve lived here. I’m also getting so fed up of the byepass, the M8 and the A1 - I swear they get busier every year that goes by. The crap weather is probably not helping atm though.

horseymum · 29/12/2021 09:44

The orienteering map was £2 to download and you print it yourself. A compass is useful but probably get one on a phone. A surprise success with 16 year old ds. I think everyone has so thoroughly explored their local areas they are at a loss but maybe just step over a council area. We love east Lothian but but imagine if you have done it all before it feels boring.

Feelingoood · 29/12/2021 09:45

Welcome sir chenjins! I’m enjoying it too. Just so nice not to feel like the only one that doesn’t know where the party is!

Susurrar · 29/12/2021 09:46

And it’s raining!!! I just can’t be bothered today. We’re in West Lothian, we’ve done every single walk/tourist attraction here.
If it weren’t raining, I’d go to Burntisland and walk along the coastal path. I’ll never get bored of that. As long as DS knows there’s food at the end of the walk, he’s happy to oblige in general. As it stands though, we’re still in pyjamas…

SirChenjins · 29/12/2021 09:46

We were at Beecraigs a couple of days ago - take wellies, it’s very muddy. Cafe is open which is always a bonus.

Feelingoood · 29/12/2021 09:48

Oh will give that a try. Maybe come to your end I still haven’t been to Jupiter artland or Hopetoun house.
You are right about the weather!
Better get cleaning, procrastinated long enough!

Also in Edinburgh (leith) and am painfully bored.

Husband and 6 year old would happily stay in and stare at screens al day.

I am so bored but cannot think of anything to do to entice them away

SourMilkGhyll · 29/12/2021 09:57

There is a nice walk around the loch at Linlithgow, takes about an hour. The fish and chip shop in the centre is really good.
There is also a garden centre called Mannerstons (or something like that) between Linlithgow and South Queensferry that has a nice cafe.
Blackness has a nice walk around past the castle and playpark and finishing back at the pub in the village. The pub food is fantastic.
I know what you mean about being fed up of walking though.

Golf driving range? Pitch and putt?
'pay what you want' bookshop in Edinburgh is fantastic for teenagers, lots of very current books in there for a suggested donation of £1 per book.

Any one knows what Dunbar is like? I'd like to visit it (just because the name sounds interesting/ but no idea what to do there apart from there is a castle and a beach? I presume there's a nice walk around the castle and beach?

SourMilkGhyll · 29/12/2021 10:00

I think Hopetoun is closed, but you can do a circular walk from the pub in Newton down through the grounds of Hopetoun and back up again to the pub.

weebarra · 29/12/2021 10:02

Midlothian here too! Also fed up with muddy walks and while I love East Lothian's beaches, I could do with something different.
And it's absolutely pissing rain today.
DH and I have a night away booked in Glasgow and the grandparents (just outside Glasgow) are going to take the kids. Can't wait!
The DCs did like the crazy golf at Fountainpark recently though.

SirChenjins · 29/12/2021 10:05

If anyone is looking for a nice walk that doesn’t involve yet another circle around Linlithgow loch then I’d really recommend lunch at the Park Bistro (theparkbistro.co.uk/) followed by a walk along the canal path into Linlithgow. You can leave your car at their car park, the canal path is literally over the road. You need to book the bistro as it gets really popular but the food is v good.

Susurrar · 29/12/2021 10:05

@SourMilkGhyll Dunbar is lovely. We love the Thorntonloch beach and East Links farm (farm obvs is a kiddy attraction). There’s also the alpacas farm nearby. DP and DS were terrified, I loved itGrin

horseymum · 29/12/2021 10:09

Kelpies and/ or Falkirk wheel and ice cream at the milk barn for those who want a non muddy walk. Although it's peeing den with rain just now.

SirChenjins · 29/12/2021 10:10

There’s also that segway/water sport place near Dunbar [https://www.foxlake.co.uk/]
