Does anyone have a strong sense of what we should expect tomorrow?

In retail, it will involve a return to the kind of protections in place at the start of the pandemic - including physical distancing and measures to control the flow of customers and protective screens.

That is going to hit our charity shop very, very hard. We are struggling so badly for volunteers, we just can't have one volunteer on the door and one on the till - not enough volunteers.

Whattochoosenow · 14/12/2021 14:27

Still managed to blame Westminster

Yellow85 · 14/12/2021 14:37

I’m going off piste here, but the nhs is a shambles and somehow we manage to pull £100m out a hat?

My brain can’t comprehend the kind of money being shuffled.

Scottishskifun · 14/12/2021 14:39

@yellow85 - 200 million half to businesses half to isolation fund

disneydreaming · 14/12/2021 14:40

@santasmuma

She is gearing up for school closures. The bit about having schools open 'if at all possible' didn't fill me with confidence
I think she is, my daughters high school has asked them all to fill out access to technology surveys for working from home so school are certainly preparing for closing.
MLMshouldbeillegal · 14/12/2021 14:41

Why is she banging on about "attack rate"? Omicron has a higher "attack rate"?

No Nicola, it's not out to get you. Or any of us. It's not trying to "attack". More infectious, more easily transmitted.

Attack rate my arse.

WouldBeGood · 14/12/2021 14:44

It’s hospitality fucked

The mind boggles. I’m the type that’s running around trying to find a fiver for the window cleaner though so…🤣

Humza always looks so tired and fed up.

Yellow85 · 14/12/2021 14:46

He should be more Sandesh. He’s got himself in his best suit and clearly listened.

StarryNightSparkles · 14/12/2021 14:59

Just thinking. Nicola said if she had the money from down south she would have went further particularly with hospitality. Shes just been given extra money from Sunak, so now I am thinking when and what will she bring in next. I think she will bring in more restrictions this week.

ShiftingSands21 · 14/12/2021 15:28

My bet would be that the treasury will eventually provide support and more restrictions will follow, once England gets to the same phase in the epidemic.

It’s an unfortunate turn of phrase but to be fair it’s just an epidemiological term, not an idea she has invented. I can’t think of an obvious alternative.

I’ve been hanging on this to find out if our trip to Inverness/Edinburgh can still go ahead Thurs-thurs. I’m thinking we will be able to set off but then panicking about further restrictions once there.

Been to Drs this morning thinking I’ve got long covid from 6 months ago but apparently I’m riddled with anxiety instead, is there any bloody wonder.

The treasury have given the devolved nations extra money for this today. It was announced in the Scottish parliament after Nicolas speech.

GoldenOmber · 14/12/2021 15:42

Wtf does “guidance but don’t treat it as optional” mean?

It means we can't get it into law quickly enough so we will tell you all to do it but no powers to enforce it.
ShiftingSands21 · 14/12/2021 15:47

@StarryNightSparkles True. I mean the support she was complaining she didn’t have.

👍

Back to a waiting game of what if anything is going to happen next.

ShiftingSands21 · 14/12/2021 15:56

Yes. I’m rereading and it sounds like that treasury announcement might actually cover some of her complaints after all. It seems a bit unclear. If that is the case, then I guess that would mean more announcements quite soon.

Do you think she knew this was coming before her speech or are they all frantically back at the drawing board now wondering what they can do differently as a result?

Can we expect more tomorrow do you think?

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 14/12/2021 16:10

I'm taking advisory to mean just that - I don't have to follow it and will use my own common sense. I turned off when the Westminster bashing started, but it sounded like she would have loved to closed businesses but Westminster refused to pay for it so she couldn't. As a result I get to continue going to restaurants and the gym, which have been essential for my mental health, so not for the first time I'm thinking 'Thank fuck we're not independent!'.

Yeah I confess to not being clear on this either.

She didn't know before, she got handed the information during the questions after her speech. Yeah that's what I am thinking maybe more restrictions to follow tomorrow or by at least Friday. I imagine that they are all going through the figures this afternoon.
