Thought a wee separate thread would be handy to keep us all going and for the kick up the bums we need, tips and motivation

Good work both. I've had a disrupted day so didn't get out for planned run, but going to do bodypump shortly instead. And have calories banked for WINE.

runningpink · 12/03/2022 16:46

Excellent @WouldBeGood

Friday
Only the 2mile walk
10k steps
2800ml water

Still working on today but the day isn’t over!
I didn’t order a roll or have cake in the cafe after parkrun this morning. And I had a hot choc this afternoon when I fancied chocolate and that took craving away.

I have a friends kids birthday party tomorrow! 😩 Plan to go on turbo before I go and a walk but will also be sensible about what I eat.

Well done on resisting the roll and cake at park run!

I have been trying to get out for my wk8 r2 of #c25k all week and finally managed it today. Not too bad on the calories today, I will go over my limit, but in a planned way, as we had Indian takeaway tonight. I kept the fried and carb heavy goods limited in our order and had smaller portions than I would normally have for everything.

runningpink · 12/03/2022 20:55

I actually looked at myself in the mirror tonight and I’m angry and disgusted with myself for allowing this to happen. I was close to tears.
So even more determined to get rid of the excess weight now.

Going to massively up the exercise. Think I will need to get up at 5am to fit in an hours walk each morning. Once I can run again then I can do this less and run a few mornings instead.

I’m not ready to calorie count just yet but I will begin with making good food choices.

What could I realistically lose in 50 days? An inch round my middle? Thinking more inches than weight as I can’t bring myself to stand on scales. I’m going away for a long weekend so that’s a good timeframe for an initial goal.

That sounds like sensible choices @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo but also allowing you to enjoy at same time

Oh I'm sorry you're feeling so down @runningpink Sending Thanks and virtual hugs.

I've definitely been where you are. For years I'd cry when I saw photos of myself etc. and it all seemed utterly daunting.

For the first stage in losing weight, I really didn't want to 'diet' so I went with the 'eat better, move more' approach. It was very slow and steady, but I lost around 2 stone with that approach.

Rather than focusing on inches as an alternative to scales, do you have something that is a bit tight to wear and you could aim for that to get into?

I know you don't want to calorie count, but rather than simply trying to cut out the 'bad' stuff (which can be miserable), it's worth having a look at calories/portion sizes in some things you have a lot of e.g. I've halved the portion of rice that I would normally have. DH and I used to have a large sharing bag of crisps between us twice a week and I was appalled to realise quite how calorific they were, so now we might have a small regular sized bag of crisps each for a weekend treat.

I did plateau for a while and put around half a stone back on, which is what prompted me to get serious about diet and exercise this year, but eating better and moving more did make at huge difference!

Oh, we use the pinch of nom and hair biker diet books at lot for meals. Also helped us reframe what a portion should look like.

WouldBeGood · 13/03/2022 09:16

Oh, @runningpink, sorry you’re feeling rubbish.

I’d be wary of getting up so early to exercise as you’d probably be better getting that extra sleep: lack of sleep is more likely to make you hungry and gain weight, so get those zzzs in! And exercise for enjoyment rather than weight loss.

I’m still really fat but feeling better in my head for doing something.

Well done on the C25K @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo! I’m tentatively thinking of a tiny run/walk today…

runningpink · 13/03/2022 11:49

Thanks both but it’s all my own doing. Well alongside bloody second lockdown and depression. And now injury. But yes ultimately my own fault.

I like the idea of an item of clothing rather than inches or weight. Just tried on loads of things for this birthday party as I normally live in gym stuff. And nothing fits, iv clearly been in denial.

So my first goal is to be able to fit into a pair of jeans that I used to be able to pull down without unzipping! I currently can’t zip up. 😢
And my spring/summer jacket that I can’t close.

I’m probably back up to a size 12 instead of the 8/10 I was at this time last year. 😢 I sold all my bigger sized stuff.

Also from your advice I will calorie count loosely. I always get fed up at weighing out things like salad for example. So I will weigh my food for portion control but not get bogged down with the wee things like salad. Also won’t buy any junk so I will really need to want it to make the effort to go to the shop.

Thinking have half a bagel instead of whole one, one roll with soup not two, weight pasta out not guess etc
And snack on ice poles and hit chocolate in the first instance of craving sugar.

Breakfast had some cereal, then went on turbo then had a second breakfast of poached egg and toast but only had one slice of bread. (Need more to eat after a turbo workout)

Will skip lunch and choose a few sensible items at the party

Have chicken for tea.

Have you made it out a walk or run @WouldBeGood?

OP posts:
WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 13/03/2022 16:19

That sounds like a good approach @runningpink

I haven't planned any exercise today but I need to do something to get my minimum activity to close my Apple Watch rings, so will have to give that some though. DH is laid up so I've spent all day running around doing double Sunday chores, but not active enough for my watch!

Hope you got out @wouldbegood and that it didn't hurt!

runningpink · 13/03/2022 17:11

I was pretty restrained at the party. Had minimal food only going up to food table once.
Going to head a wee walk now which should hit my steps for the day

Then make a meal plan for the week and prep some of said meals.

WouldBeGood · 13/03/2022 17:45

Very good, guys!

I ended up doing a massive tidy up of clothes and fixed wardrobe doors, so just went for a dog walk- was made more exiting as my phone blew into a ditch and I had to leap in to rescue it 🤣 Leg was ok even coming downhill so might risk gentle jog tomorrow

runningpink · 13/03/2022 20:21

A massive tidy is always very satisfying.well done on fitting in a dog walk

2800ml water
16k steps
13 miles on turbo
2.5 mile distance over two short walks

87k total steps for week

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 13/03/2022 22:15

Thanks @runningpink!

I cannot believe how many steps you do a day! I’m rubbish on that.

runningpink · 14/03/2022 02:24

I do put my watch round my ankle on the turbo for steps. Rather than trying to convert the rough equivalent. I don’t do this when I’m out on bike though.

Normally a run gets me halfway and I do some jogging on spot when i can as well. Also walk as much as possible rather than taking car.

I am desperate to get out running again

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 14/03/2022 11:32

My steps are much better when I can jog. Think I’ve jarred myself a bit with the ditch incident 😳 so not going to try today. Been to the gym for leg day and will go dog walk later. Calories pre logged for today. I find that much easier

runningpink · 14/03/2022 20:00

I hope you are both super proud of me…had to get some sweets for a birthday present this evening.
They are saying eat me eat me but I’m munching on an ice pole instead.

I’m terms of steps I done a step working on YouTube earlier. Was 20mins and I got 2.5k steps. Marching on spot. Side steps, jogging etc it was fun and went past quickly

Go for a run when you feel ready, falls really knock your confidence

OP posts:
runningpink · 14/03/2022 20:32

16k steps
4mile walk
2100ml water
Pilates class

Also weighed out food for portion control

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 14/03/2022 20:57

That’s all very impressive @runningpink! I’m proud of you 😊

WouldBeGood · 15/03/2022 19:15

So, went gum on Wattbike today, but was just exhausted: think hadn’t eaten enough for exercise, and had taken a beta blocker as was so anxious this morning. Anyway, did it, and two dog walks so over 10K steps, which is good for me, and stuck to calories. How’s things?

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 15/03/2022 19:26

Well done both! My calorie intake has been ok-ish, but I really need to knuckle down. Managed a bodycombat class yesterday and bodypump today though so pleased with that. I'm missing a daily lunchtime walk now I am back in the office, I never seem to find the time for it in the way I did when at home! Weigh in day for me tomorrow.

Hope you're feeling a bit better after feeling anxious earlier @WouldBeGood

Step exercise sounds fun @runningpink - it's so much easier when you find something you enjoy.

WouldBeGood · 16/03/2022 11:46

Good on you @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo and hope the weigh in went ok!

Thanks, I’m using exercise as a pick me up: been to the gym and done weights 💪 Planned good again to include wine as DP making lasagne for my dcs: I shall resist as he is not known for low fat cooking 🤣

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 16/03/2022 15:41

Yay 💪🏻 @WouldBeGood !

Down one pound this week - woo hoo! Trying to work out how to fit some exercise in later as it's parents evening tonight!

WouldBeGood · 16/03/2022 19:37

Well done @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 17/03/2022 17:46

Thanks! Hope you're e both had a good day.

WouldBeGood · 18/03/2022 12:59

Woohoo! 2.3lbs off this week. Think I’m getting the hang of it - been really trying to move more and log calories religiously. Fingers crossed I can continue…by this time next year I’ll be thin 🤣

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 18/03/2022 21:56

That's brilliant @WouldBeGood! Keep it up!

I'm feeling pretty good this week too - realised today the last time I weighed my current weight was before DS was born. He's a teenager...

@runningpink hope you are doing ok!
