Thought a wee separate thread would be handy to keep us all going and for the kick up the bums we need, tips and motivation

Hi @JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue!

Calorie counting is the way forwards: you can eat anything as long as you don’t exceed your daily allowance, snd it’s great for portion control.

Start by getting your calorie and protein targets on the free James Smith Academy calculator so you know what to aim for. And the Fitness Chef Facebook group is great for support and ideas.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/03/2022 20:36

I agree @WouldBeGood I only really started to see weight consistently drop once I got serious about calorie counting. So I'm getting back on that bus tomorrow after a slack week!

I did manage couch to 5k this morning - week 8, run 1.

WouldBeGood · 06/03/2022 20:46

Well done on C25K @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo!

I had pt on Friday, then a gentle walk yesterday and a better walk today. Calories ok today. Going to blitz then this week! My new system is to log my food for the next day so I know what I can eat without thinking about it, and to ensure protein goal met. Then any spare calories are up for grabs. (Alcohol 😃)

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/03/2022 20:51

Good work @WouldBeGood - it definitely helps to log calories in advance (and allow for wine 😀). I'm. Going to do that in the morning! (Log calories that is, not drink wine).

WouldBeGood · 06/03/2022 20:54

Even I don’t drink wine in the morning

*unless I’m camping

runningpink · 07/03/2022 09:03

Oh I hadn’t heard of James smith academy so I’m away to Google.
It definitely helps to plan ahead and have food locked in to keep on track but I always lose motivation!

Sunday
1400litre water so slacking yesterday
2 mile run…injury really flared up so stopped
4.5mile walk
17k steps
100,500 steps for week

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 07/03/2022 11:49

That’s great @runningpink, but not the injury 😟

James Smith is very sweary, but really talks sense.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 07/03/2022 12:48

Well done @runningpink but boo on injury.

😀 at morning wine while camping @WouldBeGood. Brunch and holiday Buck's Fizz also acceptable I think?

I had a boozy day out yesterday, so deciding to go for a run before hand to at least put a small dent in the damage. That's definitely progress for me!

Back on the nutracheck calorie counting today. I know it works when I stick to it so I've to keep it up if I don't want to be miserable in summer clothes this year!

runningpink · 07/03/2022 22:00

Food not great…I’m so busy that I’m picking at food and needing stuff to Chuck in oven rather than cook.
I’m hoping things will settle in the next week or two then I can add food to the plan alongside exercise.

1400 litre water (I was out most of day and not easy access to toilets hence not drinking as much as should have)
8 mile distance in total over two walks
21k steps

Been to see about my injury and I’m still allowed to exercise but sadly no running for time being.

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo how does the nutracheck differ from MyFitnessPal?
Well done on your run before drinking! Very impressed

I can cope with sweary @WouldBeGood! Haven’t had time to check that guy out as yet

OP posts:
WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 07/03/2022 23:31

That's a shame about the running @runningpink

MFP vs Nutracheck - I find nutracheck a bit easier to use and is uk focussed so has listings for products from all the supermarkets without relying on user generated content. I find that better for accuracy - though it does mean putting in every recipe yourself. Good list of standard takeaway/eating out listings too.

I've gone around 100 calories over today, but that's because we forgot today's dinner was a bit higher in calories than we'd normally have mid week. Managed a bodycombat class though, so not a bad start to the week!

runningpink · 08/03/2022 20:54

I will add nutracheck to my list of things I need to look into. Thank you!

100 calories over will be easy enough to claw back during rest of week.

But of a fail day today, just too busy.
7k steps
2 mile walk
2100litre water

Will try and improve tomorrow. I’m away to crawl into bed now 😴

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 08/03/2022 21:06

You ok @runningpink?

runningpink · 08/03/2022 21:10

Yeh I’m fine. Just tired. Got so many things I’m trying to juggle at the moment and can’t seem to get myself into a good routine.
Some sleep and il be grand

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 08/03/2022 21:21

Have a good sleep @runningpink 💐

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 08/03/2022 21:23

Sleep tight @runningpink, tomorrow is another day.

Stayed in calories today and did a body combat class. Weigh in day tomorrow, not expecting great things after my ropey couple of weeks but at least I feel like I'm properly back on it!

WouldBeGood · 08/03/2022 22:24

I’ve been in calories Sunday/Monday/today and gym yesterday and today. Food logged and healthy lunch packed for tomorrow, as I’m working far away. Good luck with weigh in @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 09/03/2022 06:29

I am retry much where I was two weeks ago, so I'll take that as a win!

I struggle a bit with healthy lunches - during the week is easy, I just have soup most days and DH is great at making lots of soups, but I get bored of it at the weekend.

How are you enjoying the gym @WouldBeGood? Is the knee starting to improve at all?

Hope you have a better day today @runningpink

WouldBeGood · 09/03/2022 20:18

that’s good @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo, going well. I made tuna melts on pittas the other weekend and they were tasty and good calories/protein.

My knee is, dare I say it, really much improved! Thanks. Going to wait to make sure it’s properly healed before I risk combat or old lady jogging but the other stuff is helping. Another good day calorie wise, hopefully tomorrow too 😃

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 10/03/2022 06:42

Ooh, I'm not a fan of warm tuna, but it is a good base for other lunches and haven't had it for ages. Will add to shopping list.

That is great news in the knee @WouldBeGood particularly as it wasn't that long ago you were told nothing could be done! Quite right to wait until it's fully healed before putting it under any pressure.

I calculated my bmi this morning - just a smidgeon above the heathy range, it feels good to have gotten here!

WouldBeGood · 10/03/2022 09:01

That's great @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo! Makes it worth it.

That day is a long way off for me 🤣

I am glad I moaned about the knee on here as it made me think I should get a second opinion and not just lapse into disability!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 10/03/2022 22:51

It's so good your were spurred on! Hope you've had another good day.

How are you @runningpink - life still crazy busy?

runningpink · 11/03/2022 06:52

Yes busy and I’m knackered. Food wise been horrific. Went to collect something from my parents yesterday and mum had got me a small box of chocolate that were reduced for staff at her work. I bloody sat and eat them all just cos they were there and I was tired and hungry. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I think I will cancel a couple of things at weekend to get back on top of my to do’s list and make my life easier all round. Things that can be rearranged so all good.

Wednesday
1400ml water
Only exercise a Pilates class
10108 steps

Thursday
2200ml water approximately as I left my bottle at home so had to use a glass at work
No exercise
5941 steps

Also haven’t done my physio exercises anywhere near as much as I should be doing.

That’s great about your knee @WouldBeGood

Amazing about bmi @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo that’s definitely a motivational boost for you

OP posts:
runningpink · 11/03/2022 07:41

Just squeezed in a 2 mile walk and drank 700ml of water so a better start to the day today

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 11/03/2022 09:01

That’s impressive @runningpink, I’m a lazy cow in the mornings 🤣

PT later though 💪💪

WouldBeGood · 11/03/2022 12:13

Half a kilo down this week, so a pound and a half.

Pleased it’s down but perhaps a little disappointed. Keep on keeping on though! PT was heavy weights, so I’m proud of that 😃
