Thought a wee separate thread would be handy to keep us all going and for the kick up the bums we need, tips and motivation

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo thats great! You must be feeling pleased!

I started doing weights for the protective factors as I age. I want to keep hale and hearty as long as possible

mapleleavesreturn · 20/02/2022 12:39

Yes balance and core - I hadn't realised how bad mine was til I tried to do it with the kids!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 20/02/2022 14:16

I'm the same @WouldBeGood. It's been about a whole lifestyle change for me as I approach the big 5-0. My dad was only 13 years older than I am now when he died - a real product of his heavy smoking, meat & two veg, west coast of Scotland postcode lottery upbringing. I want to be around a lot longer than that.

I just tried standing on one leg for 10 seconds each side. Easy enough, so closed my eyes. So hard!!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 23/02/2022 06:35

Down another 2 lb this week! A quiet weekend meant I was able to stick to my calorie for the weak overall without eating into any of my exercise calories, which obviously paid off.

This week's challenge will be sticking to exercise now I'm back in the office. I've already slacked off a little bit - need to make sure I get a class in today and get started on week 8 of C25K.

Hope everyone else is going well.

WouldBeGood · 23/02/2022 08:09

Well done @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo! That’s great. Really worth the effort.

I had too much food and drink at weekend but have been good since. Bike at gym yesterday, will do some weights today, hopefully spin tomorrow and then PT and weigh in on Friday.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 24/02/2022 19:42

Thanks! I went on to have too much food last night and today, but I did do a sluggish bodycombat plans and have loft ambitions for a low cal high exercise weekend. We shall see...

WouldBeGood · 25/02/2022 15:04

Go for it @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo!

I had my weigh in, was a bit disappointed if I’m honest as one kilo down over two weeks. And been good on calories this week. Must nail it next week!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 25/02/2022 19:38

Oh that's annoying for you @WouldBeGood You get weeks like that though. I've continued being a bit rubbish. Not quite found my groove this week with going to the office all week. Hopefully my 'new normal' will settle down and I can get into a good routine. Still planning lots of exercise and healthy over the weekend, but for tonight, wine...

runningpink · 28/02/2022 12:13

Right folks I’m back! Know I say this all the time but I have a new found motivation and determination.

I’m off my medication, been a full week now and my constant craving of sugar isn’t there. I still want junk food but in a more controlled manner if that makes sense.

Also discovered a few things don’t fit so that’s an added motivation to lose weight.

Still struggling with leg injury but have a physio booked in.
5mile walk and Pilates done this morning. Will get on turbo this afternoon, another wee walk and another class.

Aiming for 15k steps a day average and to be sensible with food and kinky have chocolate if I really really want it. Will try and use hot chocolate as a wee sugar fix as well

Hope everyone else is having a good Monday?

Hi @runningpink! Glad to hear you’re back in the zone 😊. Sounds like a good plan.

I’ve been to spin today, was there on Saturday too. But eaten out over weekend and too much wine. Really trying to hit the protein goals as it fills me up too.

runningpink · 28/02/2022 22:45

23k steps today so chuffed with that. Will be harder rest of the week as I’m working but will really try

Well done on the spin @WouldBeGood

I cannot believe the difference from being off the medication. It was 100% what I needed or i doubt I would be here today but now is the time to get myself fit and healthy again.
I’m able to get up early between 5-6am relatively easily and start awake easily past 9pm so I’m getting more things done

Just need the leg sorted then I’m sorted

I try and have eggs for breakfast to get that protein hit first thing but don't always have time.
Natural yog with protein powder and chia seeds gives me a good protein and fibre intake but I have to remind myself to eat that.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 28/02/2022 22:53

Welcome back @runningpink great to hear you sounding so motivated! I have had far too many calories over the last week and struggled with exercise with being back in the office. Hoping for a much better week this week!

Managed a body combat class today. It was a bit sluggish but worth doing.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 01/03/2022 21:27

First day of the month. Spring is coming, then summer, and the summer wardrobe...

That spurred me on to go for a run (just two weeks of C25K to go now) and a half hour core class. Ate reasonably well, and had fruit and lemon with pancakes instead of maple syrup! Weigh in day tomorrow - not expecting a good result, but onwards and upwards!

WouldBeGood · 01/03/2022 22:28

It does focus the mind @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo 😃

Well done, especially on the C25K! And good luck for weigh in.

I had work but went and did a weights session in between. Going to go and do some cardio tomorrow I think. I e been a bit down as I’m feeling bloated and had too much carousing at weekend so resigned to gaining this week, but really focussing from now on.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 02/03/2022 10:40

Thanks @WouldBeGood. Up half a pound this week which isn't too bad given last week's calorie intake. Also time of the month which usually impacts my weight for a few days.

WouldBeGood · 02/03/2022 15:13

That’s not bad @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo! Could just be the cycle.

I went and did some boxing and the Wattbike after work 💪

How you doing @runningpink?

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 03/03/2022 17:21

Yeah, I hope so @WouldBeGood. Had a work night out - very boozy, but I didn't eat much. So while not to be recommended, I don't think my calorie intake overall would have been too excessive. Though this morning's bacon roll wasn't on the meal plan. 😂 Not been too bad the rest of the day though. But I have a migraine which has taken exercise off the equation.

Good work on the boxing and bike! How's the knee coming along.

Hooe you're getting on well @runningpink

runningpink · 03/03/2022 20:22

Bit mixed unfortunately. Turned into a super busy week, and had a few unexpected things crop up. Also had a lot of baking to do this week for various things so it’s been all to easy to eat a bit here and there!

52k steps so far this week. I’m really short today so going to jump on turbo for 20 mins or so.

I keep forgetting to drink water, get busy at work and it’s not always easy to get to toilet so think that stops me.

So I’m thinking I need to drink a full bottle before leaving for work. And another bottle on the drive to work. It’s 45 mins drive so plenty time to get through a bottle. Then the rest will be easier to drink slowly through the day.

Sounds like you are both doing well with the exercise and motivation. @WouldBeGood and @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo.

2.4 litres of water drank
12k steps
5k run

Away for the weekend but should still manage the above

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 05/03/2022 09:27

Good work @runningpink

I've been a bit off the boil - suffering from a mix infection monthly cycle and migraines. But I have managed some exercise, though I need to get back on the calorie counting to make some progress in the coming weeks. When I stick to it it works!

Off to get my hair done shortly - torn about whether to go for a run this afternoon as it'll ruin my blow dry and I'm meeting a friend for brunch tomorrow!

JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue · 05/03/2022 16:23

Hi ladies, long term scotsnetter but with a NC

I need to get my ass in gear. Plan to start week on Monday (I'm on holiday til then).

I find it hard to avoid snacks and biscuits in the house, but if I didn't buy them at all, I'd feel totally deprived and not be able to stick to any diet. I need to feel like I'm eating normally iykwim, even if its a healthier normal. Right now I eat too much of everything and need to eat less.

I also struggle to get time to exercise. Even at lunch breaks, I'm still so busy, I don't take a proper break. I don't like the dark or wet so don't really like walking in those conditions and I have disabilities so I feel a bit extra vulnerable.

Would really appreciate encouragement from others on this thread.

runningpink · 05/03/2022 21:07

Welcome @JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue

Would starting with hitting step goals work for you? Break it down to small segments say 1000 steps at a time. Aim for a walk for some steps then do more steps by jogging on spot whilst waiting for kettle to boil etc.

I think avoiding things makes you crave them more. I’m still working on trying not to eat so much junk food so will let you know what if anything works

OP posts:
runningpink · 05/03/2022 21:09

13k steps
2100 litres water
16 mile bike ride
3 mile walk

Hope you don’t mind me posting this info but think it will help to keep me motivated

OP posts:
WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 05/03/2022 22:59

Keep posting @runningpink a little bit of accountability goes a long way.

Welcome @JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue - it can seem overwhelming when you feel you have too many barriers. What small steps do you think you can make to get started? I began by strictly calorie count using the nutracheck app. It's really helped my adjust portion sizes.

JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue · 06/03/2022 07:29

I think I will try to walk more, especially as the weather gets better.
