Thought a wee separate thread would be handy to keep us all going and for the kick up the bums we need, tips and motivation

OP posts:

I am having wine too. I have calories in the bank. It'd be miserable if we were good ALL the time. Wink

Just been for a 25 minute run on C25K. Still feckin' hard but maybe not quite as hard as it was before.

mapleleavesreturn · 12/02/2022 08:36

I'm impressed! I've hit my steps goal every day which is much better than January but still haven't found a higher gear. Dh just finishing his isolation today, whoop-whoop!

I've consistently been eating a bit better at least.

WouldBeGood · 12/02/2022 09:59

Glad you guys will be free @mapleleavesreturn! That’s great on the steps. I really struggle to get mine up since I can’t old lady jog. And with my dog refusing to walk any distance in this weather!

Spin today, then out for Japanese lunch. All about the balance 😃

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 12/02/2022 17:36

It's a good start @mapleleavesreturn keeping the steps up is tricky on this weather!

How is the knee @WouldBeGood?

I got a body combat class in earlier but will be deep frying some cod for dinner shortly...

mapleleavesreturn · 12/02/2022 18:01

Just can't seem to find any time to do cardio - maybe running with the dog is the next step!

Hope you're all enjoying your weekends

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 13/02/2022 22:40

It is hard to start to find the time for exercise. Working from home these last two years made it much easier for me and I am starting to think about how I can keep it up when I go back to the office. For me it's now a bit like something I have to do though - like eating, showering, brushing my teeth. I've almost stopped thinking about it as optional iykwim. It's taken a long time to get here though.

I decided to try again with Adriene 30 day yoga. I really want to improve my flexibility and I'm hoping that it might help my hip issue if I'm careful.

WouldBeGood · 13/02/2022 22:49

How is the hip @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo?

My knee is actually possibly (scared to tempt fate) feeling a bit better: maybe it’s the bike stuff..

I love yoga, but been off it as that really hurts the knee and hard to avoid using it! Good luck with your getting back to it.

@mapleleavesreturn i do agree with just setting your exercise in stone and doing it without question. I’m good at disciplining myself for exercise, when I’m not mad, though my diet has not been so good! Hoping to combine both now.

mapleleavesreturn · 14/02/2022 09:46

I tried to do some kids core strength exercises last night and was an absolute joke! My elder dd couldn't believe I couldn't do it!

WouldBeGood · 14/02/2022 12:21

Oh no, @mapleleavesreturn 🤣

If it makes you feel better, random strangers have been laughing at me out on my bike 🤣🤣

mapleleavesreturn · 14/02/2022 12:31

No laughter no gain! My muscles hurt today, this has to be good!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 14/02/2022 20:49

Better sore than sorry @mapleleavesreturn. It'll get better every time you do it.

Hip is ok thanks @WouldBeGood, one is just a bit restricted and hurts when I try to open it out. I really need to make appt to see consultant though.

Had a couple of easier days on the exercise front - today has been calorific as off for half term and everything I organised with the teen seemed to involve unhealthy eating!!

mapleleavesreturn · 16/02/2022 07:22

it does feel a bit better - we've been doing more of them. I now own more yoga mats!

I'm amazed at the amount of helpful physio and OT type things on YouTube for kids and adults. I've not been brave enough to look for adult core strength, sticking with the work out for 5 year olds for now.

WouldBeGood · 16/02/2022 09:43

That's great @mapleleavesreturn. Nice to do it with your DCs too.

I’ve been to PT on Monday and Wattbike yesterday. My legs are screaming 🤣 I am tentatively planning a weights session today. If I can get moving. Calories been good this week as I’ve had slow starts each day because of the holidays, so less time to eat!

shouldistop · 16/02/2022 09:50

Right, I'm back on the 16:8 and exercise. Been to the gym 3 times this week, very stiff now so having a rest day tomorrow.
My scales are broken but I think I've gained back 7lbs of the 18lbs I had lost Sad
I'm hoping it will come back off quickly though.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 16/02/2022 10:52

Welcome back @shouldistop and well done on the gym.

I've not had the best few days on calories and exercise as I've been off work and hanging out with my teen which seems to have involved s lot of calories, but I was very good at the back half of last week, which will be why I managed a 1.25lb loss according to my weekly weigh in this morning. Now at 11st 1.25, so creeping towards getting under 11st.

Good luck with the weights @WouldBeGood and keep it up with the core @mapleleavesreturn!

I should be doing a run today, but not in this weather so will go for bodycombat and a short yoga session instead (day three of 30 days with adriene)).

WouldBeGood · 16/02/2022 14:14

Well done @shouldistop!

I did go and did quite a good weights session. Feel quite proud of myself as it’s getting easier to brave the free weights section by myself.

That’s great news on the weigh in, @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo! Impressed. Enjoy the classes.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 16/02/2022 17:41

Good work @WouldBeGood! I did my yoga but have only managed 20 mins of body combat. Been feeling really tired and congested today. Was boiling hot, but not doing enough to really work up a sweat so suspect I may be coming down with something. ☹️ did a LTF but all clear.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 18/02/2022 10:44

How have you been doing the last few days @WouldBeGood @shouldistop @mapleleavesreturn ?

I got back on the exercise wagon yesterday and was feeling much better so pleased about that. Wednesday is my usual weigh in day but I checked out the scales this morning and have slipped under 11st for the first time! That is pre-weekend so might go back up, but so exciting to see a number starting with a 10 for the first time in a few years! It feels like everything is moving in the right direction. I was 11st 8 in early January.

WouldBeGood · 18/02/2022 10:56

Oh, @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo that’s brilliant! Well done!

I’ve been really not hungry this week, which has been just as well as I had wine and a nice dinner last night- still within calories though! Exercise good except yesterday and today: I just feel knackered, so not beating myself up and will go to the gym tomorrow and Sunday instead. No weigh in today so will need to wait until next week. Fairly focuses the mind this accountability 😃

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 18/02/2022 11:30

Ha, yes it does for me! I want to share if I've done well or fess up when I've been naughty 😂

A rest day is definitely a good idea. I took it easy early in the week as I was just shattered. Though I'm trying to fo adriene's 30 day yoga on easier days, partly for my flexibility in my hip but do I can log 30 mins exercise on my Apple Watch!

mapleleavesreturn · 18/02/2022 12:35

I've been doing high steps with the dog but need to cut back on high calorie foods - no chocolate but not paying enough attention to calories. I've had people staying this half term which never helps restraint!

Having another go at core exercises this weekend, and then need to add some cardio.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 19/02/2022 16:39

Upping the steps and cutting out the chocolate is a good start though @mapleleavesreturn How are you finding the core classes?

Busy doing jobs about the house today, but the sun was shining so took myself off to do another couch 25K. That's me up to week 7 run 2 complete which is the furthest I've ever got so feeling pretty chuffed!

Hope everyone is having a good Saturday!

mapleleavesreturn · 19/02/2022 16:49

Not so much classes as doing exercises based on YouTube for core strength - think they're helping!

Week 7 on C25K is amazing!

WouldBeGood · 19/02/2022 17:04

Well done @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo!

And keep up the good work @mapleleavesreturn 😊

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 20/02/2022 08:01

You tube is great for this kind of thing. The yoga I've been doing is on you tube. Core exercises are great to do for so many things. I was reading an article the other day about the importance of women in 40s and 50s doing balance exercises (because of higher risk from falls due to declining bone density in later life) and good core strength helps with that. So that's now on my list!

I'm going to find fitting in exercise more of a challenge when I go back to the office this week. But I tried on a lot of work clothes yesterday and they were all too big. I'm currently only two or three pounds lighter than I was two years ago (like many people, I put on weight at the start of the pandemic), but the exercise has clearly improved my shape which is great. I really need some new work clothes now though...
