Thought a wee separate thread would be handy to keep us all going and for the kick up the bums we need, tips and motivation

Oh no that's a shame! I saw podiatrist today to get fitted with orthotics and he specifically told me to do similar exercise and activity as I had done for the last two weeks so that's practically an exercise ban on medical grounds. Wink

It'll be lifted just in time for new year resolutions though!

runningpink · 16/12/2021 07:06

Hi all, didn’t realise it had been so long since I checked in!
I haven’t been good at all. I just can’t be bothered and all the latest covid crap isn’t helping.

I’m about to drag myself from my cosy bed and jump on the turbo.

My clothes are tight, I feel uncomfortable, I want to lose weight but I also just don’t have the motivation. I need to set some small exercise goals I think to get me into the habit again. I used to be so good.

How’s your knee @WouldBeGood?

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 16/12/2021 23:29

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo fair enough, it’s good you’re getting help.

@runningpink how did you get on? I’m sure you’ll get back on it.

My knee is not good. Went a walk today and it was ok, but really sore after doing the Christmas tree. That’ll teach me to pander to dd and decorate despite my current Scrooge ness!

I have physio tomorrow and really hope it goes ahead.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 17/12/2021 08:54

Fingers crossed for your physio @WouldBeGood

Welcome back @runningpink. I've been rubbish of late, I darent go on the scales. Agree that the latest covid stuff isn't helping.

I need to give myself a shake or I'll be the size of a house by Christmas. I'm going to try and at least move each day for the remainder of the year, and then focus on diet after the holidays. Healthy eating and Christmas don't really go hand in hand here!

I've optimistically put some fitness clothes on this morning with a view to doing a class later...

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 17/12/2021 19:34

I went out for a walk today and did a bodycombat class so I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself now!

WouldBeGood · 17/12/2021 21:36

Well done @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 17/12/2021 22:56

Thanks @WouldBeGood How did you get on at physio?

WouldBeGood · 17/12/2021 23:22

Not good at all @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo. He says just done. All about being fat (I’m a 14-16). And old (52) Muttering about sticks, knee replacements, doom. Saying not to do boxing or running. Nothing more to do. I’m quite upset

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 18/12/2021 08:32

Oh I'm so sorry @WouldBeGood. I can understand why you're upset. Can you get a referral to a consultant? Any knee strengthening exercises that will help reduce discomfort or pain?

WouldBeGood · 18/12/2021 09:32

Thanks @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo. I’m a little shell shocked I think. He was very blunt, and pessimistic about any other options.

I’ll keep doing the exercises he gave me, keep trying to lose weight, and think about whether to see someone else. Thinking about it today, his manner with me was quite odd.

Can’t discuss with DP as he’s lazy, uninterested in exercise, and his prophecies about me being hurt have come true, most annoyingly!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 18/12/2021 10:22

That doesn't sound great @WouldBeGood. Are you in or near Edinburgh at all? Would happily recommend the physio I have been seeing if you wanted to get another opinion. I know you're feeling a bit 'old and fat' but 52 is no age to write off your knee.

WouldBeGood · 18/12/2021 10:49

Thanks, but a bit far.

I agree with that though and kept trying to say it, can’t really be right, surely?

I think they were under pressure to discharge people as he said they have a massive waiting list of over a year with the covid backlog.

Going to go a walk today as it’s a nice day and think over the holidays what to do!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 18/12/2021 12:14

Sounds like a good plan. It's lovely here too so I'm dragging everyone out for a walk after lunch. A bit of sunshine and vitamin d needed to lift the spirits in our house I think.

runningpink · 18/12/2021 16:41

Oh no @WouldBeGood that’s rubbish!

How about booking a sports massage? They might be able to offer up other options or advice.

I done parkrun today and a big walk. Got a bit of a dodgy knee so taking it easy when running.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 19/12/2021 13:30

Enjoyed our walk yesterday - not much in the way of proper exercise today, but we are going to walk most of the way to the cinema later, around 40 mins to at least tick off the 30 mins exercise box. Healthy eating has pretty much gone out of the window until 2nd Jan.

runningpink · 19/12/2021 17:46

Been a 10k run and a walk today so happy with that.

Also agree the healthy eating has gone out the window until January!

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 19/12/2021 17:50

That all sounds good!

Been a couple of dug walks and going to hit the gym tomorrow.

ElephantOfRisk · 20/12/2021 10:11

Not a good time for it, but I've broken the back of a stone barrier and lost a pound this week. I'm sure I'll have put it back on and then some over Christmas and new year but I'll enjoy it for now 😁

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 20/12/2021 11:53

Take the win @ElephantOfRisk, that's always a good feeling. I'm not braving the scales until 2nd January.

Good on the 10k @runningpink and hope you get on well at the gym @WouldBeGood. I'm aiming for a bodypump class plus my physio exercises today.

HarrisMcCoo · 21/12/2021 10:50

Eating limited calories but still same weight a week later. Think DH is right, forget weight loss just now....I will restart after the holidays. It's impossible cutting back with all sweet stuff lying around!

HarrisMcCoo · 21/12/2021 10:52

Well done ElephantOfRisk, huge achievement🎉 I have a stone to lose (lockdown weight) but will attempt after the kids go back to school. Will offer out loads of sweets/cakes to the children so I can limit the damage 😬

WouldBeGood · 21/12/2021 12:02

Well done @ElephantOfRisk!

And everyone who’s keeping at it.

I’ve been poor on exercise but better at eating less. Both due to being really anxious. But could have benefits on the diet front!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 21/12/2021 15:18

Sorry to read that you are feeling anxious @WouldBeGood. Is it the doom and gloom of covid life?

I am enjoy some festive sweet treats @HarrisMcCoo, selflessly to make sure they are all consumed by 2nd January so we can be all healthy and virtuous in the new year.

runningpink · 01/01/2022 18:18

Right you lot…
Start fresh on Monday morning?

250 odd days until my holiday so hoping that will be my incentive 🤞🏻

OP posts:
WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 01/01/2022 18:59

Ha, I have just logged on to see if anyone had re-booted the thread @runningpink . Feeling fat and terribly out of shape.

Definitely up for a fresh start come Monday. Hoping to be lounging by a pool somewhere hot in the summer so action is definitely needed. Generally looking to eat less, drink less (wine) and move more regularly.
