Thought a wee separate thread would be handy to keep us all going and for the kick up the bums we need, tips and motivation

OP posts:

I'm really struggling to get motivated. Cannot get to a gym and the nearest one only has things like HIIT which is definitely not for me.

Also its pitch black by the time I finish work so I don't fancy going a walk in the dark!

My biggest issue is food though. I'm eating too many snacks and takeaways.

I lost a lot of weight on SW 2 years ago, pre pandemic, but I can't seem to get motivated to do it again.

Help!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 02/12/2021 20:39

Hi @heelforheelandtoefortoe it's heard to get motivated when it's dark on the way home! What exercise would you do given the choice? Can you get out for a walk at lunchtime or do something at home? I do Les mills on demand at home rather than going to the gym as it's a bit easier to fit round work.

Maybe pick on one food thing to get started?

Thanks @WouldBeGood! I managed a C25K run today, a full 25 minute shuffle run with no break. Really tough but was chuffed to finish it!

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 02/12/2021 20:41

hi, thanks for replying, I'd go for walks in the park, and I love to dance. I used to do just dance videos online but I'm bloody knackered after work which is probably just another excuse.

WouldBeGood · 02/12/2021 21:45

Well done @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo.

@heelforheelandtoefortoe hello. I can’t get on really without the gym or classes. Real life, bit virtual. Though I can make myself go old lady jogging! Calorie deficit is my thing for weight loss. Check out sweary James Smith?

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 02/12/2021 21:48

sweary james smith? who / what is that?

WouldBeGood · 02/12/2021 22:04

James Smith Pt on Facebook or Instagram - well worth a look

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 03/12/2021 16:02

I'm trying to psyche myself up to doing a class at 5 when I finish work. I KNIOw I'll feel great for doing one one, but it's getting dark and I just want to go have dinner, pour a glass of wine and decorate the tree!

WouldBeGood · 03/12/2021 16:43

Force yourself @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo and you’ll enjoy that wine even more!

WouldBeGood · 03/12/2021 16:44

I e been to PT today. Weight training. I’m really enjoying it

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 04/12/2021 09:49

The pull of the Christmas tree was too great. Xmas Blush It looks lovely though!Xmas Grin

HarrisMcCoo · 08/12/2021 14:20

Had my annual check up with the surgery yesterday (check bloods, BP etc) and had to step on the scales. The nurse said "no kind way to say this, but you have put on weight since last check" 😬

HarrisMcCoo · 08/12/2021 14:21

Going to get on exercise bike tonight 😫

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 08/12/2021 22:34

I am mostly going to try and not put any weight on before new year. And re-double efforts to lose weight then! How was the exercise bike @HarrisMcCoo?

WouldBeGood · 09/12/2021 10:42

Haven’t been good this week through work, weather, and general down heartedness.

But I got my lazy ass out for a jog just now. Did an early C25K to test out the dodgy knee. Felt good.

HarrisMcCoo · 09/12/2021 12:53

I forced myself to get on it, did 30 minutes. Using Google Fit to see how many calories burned has helped.

Walked past all sweet treats at supermarket this morning.... only bought treats for the DC. Very difficult. But has to be done.

WouldBeGood · 09/12/2021 13:07

Well done @HarrisMcCoo!

HarrisMcCoo · 09/12/2021 19:16

@WouldBeGood

Well done *@HarrisMcCoo*!
Thank you WouldBeGood but let's face it, it's a difficult time of year for us all watching the calories?

So difficult with wee ones at home, wanting treats. I ended up buying fruit ice lollies today, rather than chocolate ones.

WouldBeGood · 10/12/2021 16:41

Well! Went to PT and did actual boxing! So satisfying. And a trillion calories so can guzzle wine 🤣

ElephantOfRisk · 12/12/2021 12:24

Not been on here for ages and hope everyone is still doing well.

I weighed today for the first time in ages and I'm still the same as I was in September. 5lbs away from "normal" but realistically about a stone/stone and a half away from a good weight for my frame. That's still 2 stone heavier than I was pre kids so would by no means be overly thin.

Anyway, I've made very little effort in exercise or diet but I seem to have found a better routine of weight maintenance, if only I was maintaining something lighter.

I need to make big changes in January to lots of life things so might as well add that in... 😂

🙌 sounds like a great way to keep fit. Enjoy the 🍷
WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 12/12/2021 21:16

Well done on the exercise @WouldBeGood. I've written off December @ElephantOfRisk but definitely need to get back on it for January.

WouldBeGood · 13/12/2021 18:28

Went to gym this morning, did some weights and ten minutes on the punchbag.

Think I’ll go a jog tomorrow as it’s not icy

WouldBeGood · 13/12/2021 21:59

My family are all officially bored with my fitness campaign. Hence my wittering here

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 13/12/2021 22:21

I'll keep wittering with you @WouldBeGood though I've strayed a bit from the path. But only a wee Christmas detour, I'll be all about bodypump and C25K again soon (and regretting my detour!) Grin

WouldBeGood · 14/12/2021 09:06

Thanks @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo 😃

Sadly, I appear to have proper jiggered my knee, despite being obedient to the physio. Struggled to put weight on it when I got up, so think will skip the jog 🙄
