Thought a wee separate thread would be handy to keep us all going and for the kick up the bums we need, tips and motivation

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 04/11/2021 16:38

Yes, my calorie allowance would be a skoosh if I quit the drink

WouldBeGood · 06/11/2021 10:31

What’s everyone doing today? I’m lacking motivation tbh.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/11/2021 12:20

Mostly recovering from a boozy night and hiding from the weather...Blush

But, it looks much brighter tomorrow so planning on kickstarting a more active week with a bracing walk! As well as residual lurgy etc. I feel like the change in light with the clocks going back has really hampered my motivation.

shouldistop · 06/11/2021 14:55

I'm lacking motivation too. I'm so run down that I have spots and mouth ulcers. I just want to hibernate.
Between baby ds sleeping so badly and big ds bringing home every bug going from school
I think I'm in for a long winter.
Big ds only ever seems slightly out of sorts for 1 day but baby ds and I always get ill. Have started taking vitamins again in the hopes they help. Will also try to fit more fruit and veg into my diet.
I cancelled my yoga class yesterday and my brunch with my friends today Sad

WouldBeGood · 06/11/2021 15:29

Aw, that’s a shame @shouldistop.

I feel the same @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo. But I forced myself out for a wee run (old lady jog) despite the 44mph winds and rain. It was good! Though got freezing afterwards. But feeling good!

Did then treat myself to a McChicken sandwich when dropped dd off though 😃

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/11/2021 23:06

I love 'old lady jog' @WouldBeGood, I'm going to pinch that!

A poor sleeper is a killer @shouldistop. No wonder you're feeling run down. DS was an awful sleeper, I was like a zombie for the first four years of his life. Hopefully the fruit, veg & vitamins will help over the winter. I take vitamin D, a colleague swears by zinc. I find 'first defence' handy to have in the house to tackle first signs of any lurgy.

WouldBeGood · 08/11/2021 09:24

Ok! Inspire me, I’m so tired! What’s everyone doing today?

After said old lady jog on Saturday, I decided a leisurely dog walk yesterday would suffice. DP got us lost, so it ended up two hours over varying terrain, and my old lady sore knee hurting like buggery. Ok today though but might go gym to do weights rather than vigorous class. Or maybe just laze..

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 08/11/2021 10:32

Come on @WouldBeGood , no lazing! GrinGet thee to weights class (but watch the knee).

I wanted to start this week with enthusiasm and gusto but I just feel wiped out. But managed a quick pre-work walk this morning and hoping to do a C25K run at lunchtime if it doesn't rain.

WouldBeGood · 08/11/2021 15:23

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo thanks! I went and did some boxing and some weights at the gym 💪💪 Just tried a dog walk, but my little princess only lasted six minutes in the rain before turning for home 🤣

Hope you did your run, and are reinvigorated

rookiemere · 08/11/2021 16:41

Hoping I'll do better this week than last, but as I'm going to London this weekend I somehow doubt it. Went out with friends at weekend and we got photo taken at the restaurant.Gawd I look grim. Just bought a new pink roll neck hoping it might hide the double chin - well no it's perking out on top of it, doubt I'll ever wear that again.

Must try harder this week - couldn't bear to weigh myself this morning.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 08/11/2021 20:10

Oh a dodgy photo is gutting @rookiemere, I like to claim they're just bad angle photos!

I didn't get out @WouldBeGood. I was going to do bodypump instead, but a quick tidy up before our cleaner comes tomorrow led to me and DH accidentally doing 101 little odd jobs and clearing out etc. that we'd been putting off. I was up and down the stairs like a yo yo though, so I like to think I've burnt almost as many calories... I have been good on the food front though - boiled egg with toast, home made soup, apple, salmon with pak choi and that's been my lot today.

runningpink · 09/11/2021 06:45

@shouldistop I’m glad you are listening to your body and taking it a bit easier when your feeling so run down. If anyone will achieve their goal for Christmas it’s you. Just take it one day at a time.

I go to a running shop to get a shoe fitting and analysis. Go on the treadmill and they can see how I run etc
I have a dodgy hip so need stability trainers. Quite expensive at around £100 a pair but it means I can run so I don’t mind. Currently have asics I think.

I have been much better these past couple of days. Not sure how or why but I feel more in control with the food. Having a cooker again is probably helping!

I also realised that my weight increase has been since I started on antidepressants earlier this year so read up and it is a side affect. I’m not ready to come off the medication so really going to try and stem the weight gain.

Today I plan to run, hopefully meeting a friend for a walk and have a fitness class this evening.

Well done on your 30 day challenge @WouldBeGood. Hope the knee is feeling a little better today?

There is a challenge in December called Marcathon. Run 5k or 25mins every day in December. Can’t miss a day and double up. It’s brutal, done it once and never again. I found the running mostly ok but fitting it in around work definitely not.

shouldistop · 09/11/2021 12:23

Thank you @runningpink

Feeling much better now, sometimes you just need a couple of days off but I also find staying in doing nothing gets me really down.
Dh and I haven't been getting on very well for the past few days. I think we're both just tired and fed up with the military operation that life has become. We could do with some time off as a family, looking forward to Christmas. We also need to be kinder to each other probably.

Did yoga yesterday and at the gym now -back at it 💪🏻

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 09/11/2021 13:06

Hi everyone. Just back from the physio, turns out there is something not right with my hip (hence why I found the yoga too painful) so I have some exercises and stretches to help. Separately I have an issue with my foot so having some orthotics made. When I get those I think I'll go and get a fair analysis for running trainers too. Honestly, I never had any of these issues when the most exercise I did was walk to the bus stop!

Glad you are feeling better @shouldistop. I think pandemic life takes is taking it's toll on families and couples. DH and I have had a rough patch this year - our few days away last month really helped, though me starting HRT has also made a difference I think.

Glad you're feeling more in control @runningpink and yay for having a cooker again! Are you happy with your new kitchen. Good to identify a factor in weight gain.

shouldistop · 10/11/2021 17:19

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo hopefully the physio helps quickly!
Dh and I have a night away in December, first time in 2 years so that will be nice.
Just had a swim while ds1 was in his sports class, now going home for spag bol - going to skip the garlic bread!
Dh says he's going to start making 4 meat free dinners a week, currently we have 2 but he was reading about what else we can do to help climate control and a big one was meat consumption. I think that will also be healthier too. We eat with the kids so dh has the challenge of finding things that are suitable Grin
Ds1 has decided off his own back to do one thing a week to help the environment. I'm very proud of him Smile last week it was litter picking and recycling what we could from it. This week it was replacing 2 car journeys with walking instead so we walked the mile to the gym twice this week instead of taking the car.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 10/11/2021 20:32

What are your favourite meat free meals @shouldistop? DH and I are always saying we should have more but sometimes struggle just to have one! We should definitely make more of an effort. It's so much harder in the winter when all I want is hearty stews and carbs!

shouldistop · 10/11/2021 20:57

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo

Ones we do regularly as we can all eat them are; macaroni cheese, homemade pizzas, 5 bean chilli, baked potato with beans & cheese.

My favourite is lentil dhal though but our 5yo won't eat it.

WouldBeGood · 11/11/2021 10:07

I love veggie food but have been eating a lot more meat to try to get my protein up, which I struggle with.

Glad the physio offered some help @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo. I’ve been trying to do my exercises, but have also decided to take more of a rest week. I’m feeling really exhausted and achey and reckon a few days off might help.

shouldistop · 11/11/2021 10:20

@WouldBeGood yeah a few days off should definitely help.
I'm having a rest day today then yoga tomorrow and gym & swim on Saturday, rest day on Sunday.
I'm struggling to get below 10st13lb so I either need to eat less or keep trying to exercise 5 days a week. I was only doing 3 before.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 11/11/2021 16:02

Hi everyone. Some good meat free suggestions @shouldistop.

I hope a few days off helps @WouldBeGood. I wonder if you're coming down with something? There are so many bugs doing the rounds.

I feel a bit stuck weight wise @shouldistop but I've been so up and down in terms of exercise this last month it's hard to know if I have the balance right. And there's been a fair bit of socialising! I did manage a run today though and will do bodypump shortly.

WouldBeGood · 11/11/2021 16:29

I did wonder that @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo as it’s really not like me. Probably the start of my inevitable demise from Covid after being so gallus.

Well done on the run and body pump

WouldBeGood · 13/11/2021 14:39

Back on it. PT yesterday, which was great. Upper body and back. Then jeffed 3k (badly) for the Samaritans today, and took dog for a walk. Also walked to dinner last night and walking to pub tonight.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 15/11/2021 08:21

Well done @WouldBeGood.

I'm trying to give myself a shake to get on it this week. 6 weeks till Christmas. Planning bodypump later, exercises from physio and will try and add on a run if I can fit it in.

DH has a week of healthy meals planned. Must. Not. Snack.

WouldBeGood · 15/11/2021 08:30

That sounds positive @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo

I need to decide if I’m actually going to be serious about proper weight loss and really nail the diet. I’m getting strong but you can’t see it much as I’m
too fat!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 15/11/2021 16:14

That's frustrating @WouldBeGood. What's your downfall on the food front (if you want to share that is, No worries if not)!

Consistency (lacking) and snacking (too much) conspire against me.

But I have been good today boiled egg & toast for breakfast, home made soup for lunch. Too many cups of tea, but no snacks. Just been for couch 2 5k run. Bodypump still on the agenda for later.
