Thought a wee separate thread would be handy to keep us all going and for the kick up the bums we need, tips and motivation

I've been to the gym, cooked a Cauliflower based dish for lunch and have whizzed up a spinach and yoghurt sauce for use with tomorrow's lunch. Oh and washed grapes to take to the cinema. Am feeling quite virtuous.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 24/10/2021 17:29

Oh well done @rookiemere - we always struggle a bit with lunches at the weekend and then end up with one of the same 4 or 5 boring sandwich type options.

Sorry you've got the lurgy @runningpink It may be too late this time, but I always find that first defence is good for fending off the lurgy if you start taking it early enough. It definitely stalled my cold the other week. DH didn't take it at the same time and is still suffering.

2lbs is well within margin or error @shouldistop. It could easily be a bit of water retention.

No exercise here today, but lots of jobs completed around the house so feeling quite productive and virtuous about that!

UnLunDun · 25/10/2021 06:10

Hi guys can I join you? I have so much weight to lose and also, today, start Taekwon -Do as an unfit, overweight Mum in her forties, I’m absolutely cacking myself hahahaha but I needed the huge kick up the backside and am determined as need to be a healthier role model to kids. I struggle with tiredness a lot, youngest still gets up for the day at 5am and I’ve coped till now by early morning shortbread with my tea, so that’s the hardest habit to break probably. I go to bed early so evenings aren’t an issue. I’m just an enormous Overeater, and an emotional eater too. Today I plan a rainy dog walk, healthy eating and portion sizes, and then this evening my class.
Hope you all have a good day.

rookiemere · 25/10/2021 07:18

Welcome @UnLunDun . Those early morning get ups sound like a killer, apparently lack of sleep is a known reason to gain weight, so it's good you're getting some at the other end.

shouldistop · 25/10/2021 13:38

I'm sure I wrote a reply Confused anyway...

The extra pounds are still there so sadly not water retention I don't think. Bit annoying that I can't even have a week off feeling ill and a couple of bad food days without gaining weight Sad

Back to it now though, was at yoga and just had a roast chicken wrap for lunch.

WouldBeGood · 25/10/2021 13:38

Apparently there’s an actual hormone, grehlin, that’s produced with lack of sleep and makes you feel hungry.. just learning some stuff on this!

I’ve been very good and gone to mental class this lunchtime despite having an easy excuse of having with today, as well as feeling old and tired and sore this morning 😇 I do feel better now I must admit

shouldistop · 25/10/2021 13:42

@UnLunDun welcome! I feel you on the lack of sleep. 10mo ds2 is up every 2 hours then refuses to go back to sleep after 5.30am ish.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 25/10/2021 16:44

Welcome @UnLunDun sleep deprivation is an absolute bugger. How have you fared today? I've found that focusing on changing one or two habits helped me to start making some longer lasting changes.

Rubbish on those two pounds @shouldistop, it's so disheartening when you go off the boil for just a couple of days. You've been doing brilliantly though so hopefully they are gone again soon!

I braved the scales today - 3lbs up since before my hols. So that's me on 11st 7 now - if I could get to 11 by Christmas I'd be delighted.

Boiled egg & toast for breakfast, home made soup for lunch, no snacks (though did have a slice of bread with soup) and I think DH has a healthy chicken tray bake lined up for tea. Just need to stay away from the snacks! I've just been for another C25K run (thankfully just finished before it started pouring down) and bodypump planned for later. I think I'll restart my fitness pal too.

Hope everyone is having a good day and that @runningpink is feeling a bit better.

UnLunDun · 25/10/2021 17:43

Thanks everyone. @WouldBeGood that’s really interesting about the grehlin, I’ll need to find out more. Even if I swapped from shortbreads to a banana I’d be improving things.

runningpink · 25/10/2021 19:20

Still feeling rubbish, iv done my Pilates class but online this evening. In my pjs! 😂

And got a few bits tidied up in the garden. But that’s it.

Food and exercise is out the window until I feel better and have a finished kitchen.

Welcome @UnLunDun. Good luck with the class this evening. Let us know how it goes

rookiemere · 25/10/2021 20:52

Hope you managed Bodypump @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo , I'm booked in tomorrow evening. Trying to get more use from my gym membership. Was good during the day but have had a chocolate just now.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 25/10/2021 21:22

I did @rookiemere thanks. Very sluggish after a few weeks off it though. I managed to buy some equipment at the start of the first lockdown so I have Les mills at home now. I always struggled to find classes at suitable times at the gym so I have no excuse now unfortunately

That sounds fairly productive while I'll @runningpink. I bet you can't wait till your kitchen is ready!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 26/10/2021 18:48

How is everyone today? Did you manage to get booked for combat @rookiemere?

I've just done a bodycombat class at home. I felt really sluggish again, almost 100 fewer calories burned than I was achieving before my cold & holiday. It's going to take a while to get back to where I was at!

Had to buy lunch out today and was tempted by a bag of McCoy's crisps to go with a healthy soup. 250 calories! Sheesh. I should still be within my calorie goal for the day, but I won't be buying them again in a hurry. They weren't even that tasty...

rookiemere · 26/10/2021 21:29

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo just back from Bodypump and my halo is shining ( don't do Bodycombat, too much coordination required). Felt peckish when I got in and remembered I had bought mini milks at 30 calories a pop, so feeling very virtuous all round.

Huge accident at Costorphine to get there - looked like a car had basically ploughed into a bus.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 26/10/2021 22:15

Oh well done. Mini milks are a great idea for a low cal sweet treat.

That crash looks horrific. I'm in Edinburgh too - it always makes me feel a bit sick when I see accidents on roads I use.

shouldistop · 28/10/2021 07:30

Well I've lost the 2lbs I'd gained so I'm back to 11st. I was really hoping I'd be under 11 by now but never mind!
I was at a funeral yesterday and had buffet at the wake so didn't have dinner last night. Think I went well over calories though.
Going to the gym at lunchtime today and dh can watch the baby.
Does anyone have any food inspiration for lunch today?

ElephantOfRisk · 28/10/2021 08:12

Well done everyone, I've not really changed, a pound up then a pound down again but that said, I've made no effort and am doing no exercise.

Omelette for lunch?

WouldBeGood · 28/10/2021 08:56

Work cancelled today so I’m off to yoga.

I’m feeling old, tired and sore so hope it helps! I think I need a month in the sun tbh!

Well done everyone!

If it wasn’t for this thread I’d just stay in bed ..😳

WouldBeGood · 28/10/2021 08:56

I’m having poached eggs on marmite toast for lunch

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 28/10/2021 09:38

Morning all. Well done @shouldistop

I've managed to lose two of the three pounds I put on over the last few weeks according to the scales this morning. I've been very determined on the exercise front this week. Bodycombat, Core and Bodypump all done along with two C25K runs so I'm quite pleased (if very stiff and sore everywhere!). I'm going to do a stretch class today.

Lunch - we tend to stick to soup during the week. Pinch of nom lentil and bacon today for us.

runningpink · 28/10/2021 09:48

I weighed and tracked my food for breakfast and lunch. Not decided what I’m having for tea yet but will also track that.

Will be upping my water intake dramatically and getting back on track with the steps and exercise.

I feel rubbish with the weight iv put on, actually feel like I have inflated even more in the past few days which I hope is the wake up call I needed.

Decided I need to go cold turkey on biscuit, sweets and chocolate.

No more excuses

Iv not had eggs for weeks with having no cooker. Now I want eggs! 😂

Soup, beans n toast, quesadilla, eggs, quiche, toastie, wrap, baked potato. For lunch ideas?

OP posts:
rookiemere · 28/10/2021 10:09

I'm slipping into bad habits again. Had two chocolates last night, possibly also need to go cold turkey.

Have just booked a last minute weekend to Barcelona at end of November so it would be nice to be less lumbering for that.

Fish tonight for dinner. For lunch sometimes I have gyozas with salad. Take a few minutes to cook from frozen and think are reasonably nutritious.

shouldistop · 28/10/2021 10:24

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo well done to you too.

I've eaten some of the Halloween chocolates Sad I need to go cold Turkey again too.
I might go cold Turkey on cakes, chocolates, biscuits from Halloween until Christmas.

ElephantOfRisk · 28/10/2021 11:51

My lunch choices tend to be based on whatever is in the fridge with the shortest use by date.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 28/10/2021 13:21

I'd forgotten about Halloween chocolates. I'm going to have to lock myself away from them.

Gyozas sound like a nice lunch option - do you make them or buy them @rookiemere? Barcelona is fabulous, I'm quite jealous!

Good luck with getting back on track @runningpink. It can't have been easy with no kitchen! Can you go out for eggs for breakfast/brunch one day while you wait for your kitchen?
