@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021

I'm on to rail about fucking Uni AGAIN! Changed to 2 hours a fortnight (May have already moaned about this 😂)

I need to write to MSP's this morning. The disparity between Scottish and English unis is shite. Really wish a journalist would pick up the story and put a bit of spotlight on the issue.

That's complete shitAngry It's storing up big problems for the future in certain sectors.

What about radio Scotland?

They live phone ins on stuff like this and Kaye Adams has child at university

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 17/09/2021 10:57

Does anyone have any idea of where to even start about contacting journalists? I know we all often disagree on here but I have found it really informative and interesting listening to everyone's views and opinions.

Think we could show ScotGov a thing or two 😂 just not prepared to have another year of uni disrupted. I worked too bloody hard to get here. It's one thing when restrictions are tight but when it's no social distancing elsewhere it's not fucking ok!

@sartorius

DH was watching 10 o'clock news with me last night (rare occurrence) when they were giving the COVID stats. They announced 158 deaths in uk and had it on screen in large numbers. DH said he wondered how many people in uk died of cancer yesterday? Bet it's way higherHmm
It's about 3 times as many @sartorius. An estimated 450 people die of cancer in the UK every day (this may increase soon due to late diagnoses and suspended treatment unfortunately). If you consider all causes it's considerably higher still, about 1400 a day on average, although there's considerable seasonal variability on this.

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021

To me, it gives the message that your education is less important than nightclubs, pubs and cinemas.
And the country will rue the day in few yrs time when our nurses, scientists, engineers etc do not have appropriate skillsAngry

sartorius · 17/09/2021 11:09

Thanks @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us
I suspected those sorts of numbers.
If they're still giving us COVID deaths every day at this stage in pandemic it should be in a "league table" (sorry, don't mean to minimise any deaths at all) to put it it some context

tiredoftiers · 17/09/2021 11:20

Thats the issue isn't it, no context given to numbers...... Numbers sound huge when given without any comparison.

Lockdownbear · 17/09/2021 11:41

Maybe we need other parties to put the numbers into context

Cancer, flu, Covid, car accidents, work accidents, other causes.
And do the number of babies born just to soften the blow.

tiredoftiers · 17/09/2021 11:43

Initially during the pandemic the National records were giving these statistics. They've now stopped, it takes ages for suicide rates and drug deaths to come through. Partly because toxicology takes ages. When they were giving these statistics accidents, drug deaths, suicides were all given under the umbrella of other deaths.

mapleleavesreturn · 17/09/2021 11:48

If England ditch PCRs for double vaccinated travellers that'll be a big change...really hoping that happens!

ElephantOfRisk · 17/09/2021 12:00

Caught the end of something on the radio yesterday afternoon saying that they are likely to replace pcrs with lfts. A question was asked about the data on strains that they get from analysing pcrs and whoever it was stated that they don't send huge numbers for this anymore as there hasn't been a new strain since 11th May.

And in the meantime in other threads, people are still washing down their groceries as "it's better to be safe than sorry". I mean people have been so scared from the messaging that we are never going to get back to normality are we?

mapleleavesreturn · 17/09/2021 12:03

Well this dangerous risk taker is going to book a flight from Newcastle if it goes ahead!

I dare say there will be all sorts of threats issues by the snp for that.

Even if they reinstate it, the boost of a couple of months of being able to travel...

WouldBeGood · 17/09/2021 12:04

I don’t get how those LFTs are any use, now I’ve seen how hard they are to do correctly. It wound be really easy to ensure a negative test

Lockdownbear · 17/09/2021 12:05

We have a holiday booked from Glasgow for January, I really wish we were going from England. Ridiculous but there you have it.

mapleleavesreturn · 17/09/2021 12:08

I know we booked Lapland from Edinburgh, so wish I'd not done that if this goes through.

WouldBeGood · 17/09/2021 12:09

I’d love to do Lapland @mapleleavesreturn! Sadly my DCs too old

One of mine is mostly too old - my friend is dragging her teens there wouldbegood, she's said they don't have to see Santa though! She didn't get to do it when they were younger and she's dug her heels in this year. Think lots of winter sports there.

WouldBeGood · 17/09/2021 12:18

It just sounds so lovely! Maybe mine could go !

Honestly it was a bit daunting at first but actually if double vaccinated then it's a doddle even if the PCRs on return are still required. England are strongly hinting they are getting rid of them. I honestly can't see NS doing the same thing given she will play the cautious card and if the past is anything to go by (e.g anyone flying in from international at one point in Scotland had to quarantine in hotels).

A current disadvantage to people in Scotland is that with the only recent change on using private companies being allowed many are not posting to Scotland or don't have the set up.

We have been OK as DPs will have ddog whilst away so it's just a case of using their address for postage and collection etc.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 17/09/2021 14:03

@Lockdownbear

I've not seen any reports that any other nation is calling in the army.
Just Google it, it's all there
StarryEyeSurprise · 17/09/2021 15:06
@starryeyesuprise army will be driving ambulances as well so yes it is currently different.

It's a mess but hardly surprising for a govt that has ignored issues for so long and diverted money elsewhere. Drugs deaths for instance well they cut funding and have long been diverting funds!

Its no surprise that its in chaos and although they will love to point that it's all covid fault its not its been going on for years!
www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-58281665

The army has been driving ambulances south of the border already.

Scottishskifun · 17/09/2021 15:24

Thanks @starryeyesuprise still doesn't stop it from being a underfunded mess with diverted money by the SG for donkeys or not tackling a huge shortage of health care workers for years though 😉

StarryEyeSurprise · 17/09/2021 15:36

Actually Scotland has the most GPS, nurses and dentists per head in the UK. There's always room for improvement but the SNHS has more staff now than when the current SG came to power.
