Oh my 12th thread!

WouldBeGood · 01/09/2021 15:32

I can’t believe it @shouldistop!

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 01/09/2021 15:35

12?! That's a shilling in old money. How did it come to this?

ResilienceWanker · 01/09/2021 15:39

Oooohhh. Settling in for some more good railing. Thanks wouldbegood.

rookiemere · 01/09/2021 15:44

More railing Shock!
I genuinely thought this would have died down by Easter when everyone was vaccinated, how naive was I ?

Oh hot off the press MsSturgeon wants vaccine passports for nightclubs and large events. I do think vaccine passports are now a bit pointless as it hasn't stopped people getting covid, surely if you're going to demand anything a negative lateral flow test makes more sense.

WouldBeGood · 01/09/2021 15:48

I was just saying on the other thread that o disagree with them in principle, but also saw a study that prople are in fact less likely to get jagged if they’re introduced, so counterproductive.

I also see that attendees at COP26 do not have to be double jagged. More double standards: us and them.

rookiemere · 01/09/2021 15:56

Oh sorry @WouldBeGood I see you have covered this on the other thread. I'll see if I can think of anything to rail about.

shouldistop · 01/09/2021 16:32

With the 4 day week thing. How do they propose dealing with people who already work part time?

rookiemere · 01/09/2021 16:42

I'm looking forward to my pay rise @shouldistop - I've always said I was as productive as a full timer ( maybe not so much wfh with access to mumsnet).
Oh wait no I'm private sector so I guess I'll pay more tax to let other people work less hours, be still my beating heart.

Joking aside in theory it's not a bad idea to be looking at, but the timing seems deeply misplaced. At the moment I'd be more reassured by a sharp focus on bringing the economy back to normal and righting some of the set backs from lockdown e.g. NHS waiting lists, social care for vulnerable DCs who may have been missed over the past year, trying to roll back some of the erosion of women's rights by being disproportionately affected by lockdown measures.

Scottishskifun · 01/09/2021 16:43

Breaking twitter news is about vaccine passports being required for entry places...... I have vague recollections of them stating this was a big ethical issue which needs to be carefully considered and wouldn't necessarily be right..... 🙄 Hmmmm surprisingly that not its another u turn!

OnceUponAWhine · 01/09/2021 16:54

I’ve name changed twice in the time of the railing threads🤣

Did you also see Chris Musson (thank goodness for a journalist in Scotland who’ll call them out) with a quote from the Minister in Charge of Covid Thoughts & Speculation, Swinney, in July saying vaccines passports would be the wrong approach.
Sigh. About turn everyone. We know this method so well now.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 01/09/2021 17:05

Placemarking. Urgh shower of dicks

WouldBeGood · 01/09/2021 17:09

Yep, saw that @OnceUponAWhine.

Can’t believe I’m renting on the Sun to call them to account and highlight this stuff, but needs must.

OP posts:
OnceUponAWhine · 01/09/2021 17:20

I see it as the journalist, rather than who they work for, when they’re tweeting from a personal account 🤷‍♀️ So I’m currently worshiping at the altar of Neil Oliver, I have to follow the GB news channel account as a way of seeing some of his excellent railings. Needs must.

Beepbeeprichie · 01/09/2021 17:29

I see the vaccine passport was presented to the media before the Chamber. Who cares about due process when you’ve got a majority I suppose.

WouldBeGood · 01/09/2021 17:40

Good way to look at it @OnceUponAWhine

OP posts:
rookiemere · 01/09/2021 17:45

@Beepbeeprichie but they'll also need to check public reaction as that's the way decisions about pandemics are made these days ( BG just as guilty of this as SG). If there is a huge backlash then they can pretend they were just thinking about it or water down proposals before presenting them in parliament.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 01/09/2021 17:45

The vaccine passport thing is to be 'debated' and voted on next week. (With an engineered majority and no dissent ever there isn't really any point in a parliamentary vote, you may as well just skip right to whatever Sturgeon thinks goes, but that's a whole other rail.) Putting aside the ethical issues in coercing people to have a medical intervention that may well be riskier for them than not having it (as the SNP have now done apparently), they can't seriously think it will do anything to reduce infection rates? By the time it's enacted that's at least another weeks worth of mixing, and it only covers quite specific venues anyway so these same people could quite legally just mix at home instead. If we assume it takes about a week for infections to work their way through (at the very least) this current peak could be on the way back down again before this 'measure' has any effect.

So is the point to try and make us take the whole issue more seriously and choose not to use our hard-earned freedoms? Is that why it's announced to the media before there's even a debate? Good luck with that! I suspect it might backfire spectacularly like so many SG infection control 'strategies' before it if the unvaccinated decide to get their clubbing in while they can!

rookiemere · 01/09/2021 17:55

Well yes I do think a vaccine passport is a bit of a moot point by now. It doesn't stop you getting Delta and the young people going to night clubs ( Michael Gove excepted) are unlikely to get very ill from catching covid anyway and the rest of us have had our chance to be fully vaccinated anyway.

Scottishskifun · 01/09/2021 17:57

I don't disagree with a vaccine passport as long as there is an exemption one to protect people who medically cannot have the vaccine and this is protected to allow them access to places.

I just find it ironic that even up to a month ago they were using it as a Westminster bashing thing about how it was unethical!

Its completely a choice to be vaccinated or not but if people decide not without a medical reason then they have to accept that means they won't be able to travel abroad to many countries or be allowed in places.

WouldBeGood · 01/09/2021 18:04

I disagree @Scottishskifun.

I cannot support State enforced medical interventions. It’s a slippery slope.

So, you agree with this, fine. What about the next time they tell you you need medicated to be a fully functioning member of society?

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 01/09/2021 18:05

The study I spoke of was of 16,000 people and showed that passports made the reluctant l as likely to be vaccinated. As an aside.

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 01/09/2021 18:14

@WouldBeGood I always get vaccinations always have done, always will.
Just like I've had to prove certain vaccinations when travelling to certain countries in the past way before covid I don't see it any differently.

It's a choice to not be vaccinated for the majority (as stated medical exempt needs to be properly accommodated) just as its a choice to attend a gig, football match or event or a choice to travel. It also needs to be appropriate for the age e.g I don't agree with Israel children not allowed in when they cannot be vaccinated.

sartorius · 01/09/2021 18:23

It's all a ploy to increase uptake in under 30s
Vaccine oassports massively increased vaccination uptake in France

I've just fancied a wee name change for the new threadSmile

sartorius · 01/09/2021 18:23

Thanks for new thread @WouldBeGood
