Scotland- Enough is enough

Starting this thread for those of us who are done. I don’t want to just rail or fight about it with those who still believe that government messaging is in our best interest. Enough is enough.

@starryeyesuprise as pointed out previously not all of England is high just like all of Scotland doesn't have the levels in Glasgow!
They were however due to go to Glasgow and the trussochs and decided it wasn't worth it!

@WouldBeGood

Oh, the faithful have arrived!
Oh the irony @WouldBeGood !

Thanks @StarryEyeSurprise - it's good to be away!

Interesting that the UK wide 7 day average hasn't broken 50k as was predicted by this point, and also looks to be levelling off a bit according to Tabby. English schools finish this week too, so you'd expect a lot less routine testing and thus a few less of those asymptomatic positives (similar to what we saw in Scotland). I'll be really (genuinely) interested to see what happens in the next few weeks to cases, and whether the UK will get to anything approaching the 100k (or 200k) per day that is predicted. I think often the modelling has been unnecessarily pessimistic, particularly with England's first two or three phases of opening in 2021, so it will be interesting to see if it holds true this time.

Ladylunchalot · 20/07/2021 22:02

Have to say when we were on holiday in Yorkshire at the start of the month I honestly didn't notice any difference rule wise between here and England. We had to book any restaurants, sanitise hands, wear masks etc just like here.
Obviously I know there are some differences now but not that many.

StarryEyeSurprise · 20/07/2021 22:07

Yes, well, according to some, Scotland's a 'dictatorship' that one must escape from (!)

I have just come back from a week in the Lake District. I have to say I found it more draconian there than here. Being forced to wear masks on a boat trip with everyone spaced out on the boat was particularly annoying.

How very strange and very enlightening. If we went only by the previous posters on this thread then England is a paradise where covid restrictions barely exist. Genuinely good to hear a wider range of voices on this.

Bytheloch · 20/07/2021 22:47

Scores of happy English folk here. Next time I'm chatting to any of them I'll let them know they're supposed to be hating it.

Have to laugh at your small minded, small world opinion over who is ‘an English holidaymaker’ and not just perhaps a local or a resident of Scotland on holiday?
It’s this kind of attitude that I like to escape from on holiday.

Well @Bytheloch I am very familiar with this place and the population is tiny although it swells massively in the summer months. We come here all the time and have done for many, many years which means you get to know who lives here and who doesn't. There are many English people who live here all year round. There is a Welsh family too.

The vast majority of tourists who come here are English, although this year has seen more Scots than normal for fairly obvious reasons. Given that it's such a small place people are chatty and friendly and I know that they are English, and actually from England, from talking to them. Of course the odd one is English from Scotland or even English from other countries. Talking to a lovely chap yesterday who was English living in San Francisco.

I have to laugh at your small minded comment and your small minded assumption though and glad that I escape that attitude in my every day life and have managed to avoid folk who think like that generally Grin

Bytheloch · 21/07/2021 07:31

Slow handclap. You don’t get it, do you? ooh, look even a ‘Welsh’ in the village
You talk about the ‘English’ as though you’re a social worker ‘lovely English chap living in San Fran’🤣

Anyway, back to topic. Enough is enough on here, whether you approve or not.

Slow handclap? Do you hear yourself? 😂

I get it just fine. Other posters have now offered experiences that don't fit in with your England - good / Scotland - bad narrative and you don't like it so back to policing the thread and telling people what they can and can't post. Tragic.

WouldBeGood · 21/07/2021 09:12

I’ve cancelled my historic Scotland membership today as it’s all still pre booking and rules. Just no fun.

And I got a list of crazed rules for when my work starts in person again: truly bonkers.

Enough is enough.

Bytheloch · 21/07/2021 09:55

If you say so.🤣

Well assume it is different approach in different areas of England. London was remarkably chilled mask-wise. Yorkshire mixed - wore a mask in small busy shop today but otherwise not bothering unless v busy indoor area. North West similar. But few if any wearing masks outside. have managed last minute bookings on the day for activities. Track and trace voluntary.

And meanwhile, what a shocking article about the waste suturing in glasgow - how grim this must be in this weather:

RaraRachael · 21/07/2021 20:23

Article on my local news page critcising LNER for applying English standards to their entire train journeys and not "keeping people safe in Scotland". They're not enforcing masks or distancing on trains that go through both countries. So what are they meant to do - arrive at the border and say, "Sorry, half of you have to get off now" Grin

We are moving to 4 weekly waste collections soon so this will end up being the situation.

They want to discourage people using the grey general waste bin and to recycle more, fair enough. I'm a pretty good recycler, my grey bin is generally half full every fortnight. they say that the blue bins are only half filled so therefore can also be collected monthly instead of every 2 weeks No-one seems to have worked out that if people recycle more to reduce their grey bin, the blue bin should be full? My blue recycling bin is virtually full every 2 weeks. I could maybe crush a bit better and get 3 weeks but 4 is going to be a stretch! People are going to start dumping waste if they cant get it collected. Not sure what they think is going to happen? Of course years of enforced freeze on council tax won't have have any impact on this and many other reduced services.

riverrunning · 21/07/2021 21:16

I've seen an increase in fly tipping round us too, I've lived where I do 5 years and it's definitely gotten worse during the pandemic. The slot availability at the tips can't be helping either.

It's awful if the union has significant concerns about rats and weils, that's horrible.

ResilienceWanker · 21/07/2021 21:42

That is really grim. I think fly tipping was going to be an inevitable consequence of being unable to get to the tip, though. And they say bulky uplifts cost £35 which seems really expensive - and as it says in the article, that's some people's food budget for the week. The council folks shouldn't have to work in those conditions, though.
