Scotland- Enough is enough

Starting this thread for those of us who are done. I don’t want to just rail or fight about it with those who still believe that government messaging is in our best interest. Enough is enough.

We all know football fans will get drunk and not social distance

Do we all know that, though? All football fans? Pretty lazy stereotyping there.

rookiemere · 19/06/2021 19:58

The Manchester ban was crazy. The one good thing I thought about Scotland's cases being higher than most of England is that she would stop this crazy demonising of England and the English, but no she's managed to drag up one part and is now working hard to thwart any holiday plans people might have thought they had.

And don't get me started on Tier 2 vs Tier 1. Apart from soft play, I'm not sure there's any actual differences, or if there are they are unlikely to make much difference to infection rates or certainly nothing that letting 6000 untested football fans mix freely won't put paid to.

charliebrown59 · 19/06/2021 20:05

see Burnham is getting flack on Twitter for merely complaining about the lack of notification about the ban.

Is there any evidence at all that asking people not to travel to hotspot areas works? There doesn't seem to be.

Let's hope we are reaching the end of these flash local lockdown...

RedactedTaeFeck · 19/06/2021 20:06

I'm sure there are plenty of non drunk football fans but they are probably more liky to be drunk than your average parent wanting to attend sports day or nursery graduation etc. Personally I have nothing against any of those including football fans, we have jagged the vulnerable, everyone else can make their own decisions.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 19/06/2021 20:16

Am I the only one feeling a bit embarrassed by the state the Tartan army has left parts of London in? I mean, I'm glad our chances are still alive, but was there really a need to trash the place? When this was Rangers and George Square quite rightly there was wide spread condemnation, but this time - crickets. And no, I honestly can't see parents at a child's graduation 'celebrating' in such a way.

runningpink · 19/06/2021 21:34

Count me in! I had enough months ago. I pretty much followed the rules for the last year but no more now.
If she bans travel to other areas of Scotland I will still be going this time. My MH has been seriously affected so I’m putting me first from now on

The inconsistencies make me so angry. From the government as well as from friends and family.

Haudyourwheesht · 19/06/2021 21:36

Ah. That's why you're not allowed. Parents flinging fairy liquid in the fish my

Haudyourwheesht · 19/06/2021 21:37

Oops.

Fairy liquid in the fish tank and peeing in the bushes.

CraftyGin · 19/06/2021 21:45

My DD, who is just finishing at Edinburgh, cannot book a vaccine because Queen Nic has separated the NHS. She has to reregister in England when she comes home and then wait a few weeks. We are Scottish, btw.

NoMontaguesOrCapulets · 19/06/2021 21:52

I'm so fed up. I'm a teacher and I've worked so hard, and I've been so good with the rules but I'm done. I want to go to England in the summer to visit friends and was hoping to go to Manchester - I really don't think that's too much to ask but apparently it is!

The poor P7s I teach can't go and visit their high school so are all a bag of nerves, poor wee nursery kids can't visit their P1 classrooms but they let thousands of football fans descend on London? It's a farce.

Haudyourwheesht · 19/06/2021 22:00

Our p7s / s1 are coming up for induction days so obviously it can be done.

RaspberryRoyale88 · 19/06/2021 22:00

I’m also done, I’ve had enough of NS’s hypocrisy, bullshit and being awkward for the sake of it.

I’m mortified how some Scottish people behaved in London. If the English had behaved like that up here, NS would be all over the news criticising. Double standards.

Wakeupin2022 · 19/06/2021 22:13

I would say this 'ban' on travel to any English cities is not at all legal.

I wish someone would take her to court!

It wasn't legal to ban cross border travel before but at least at that time there were restrictions on travel from within Scotland
Now she is discriminating against cities / people because they are not Scottish / live in Scotland.

She has well and truly overstepped the mark here but it doesn't really surprise me as her hatred for England and all things English shines through.

Full respect for all teachers, what a time it’s been and what an impact on all these essential areas for education/children’s welfare, just at the same time as Euros.

Enough is enough. Enjoy your much deserved summer break seeing your friends.

Our P7s got a visit. Not the usual 3 days transition but a Friday afternoon when high school kids were not in. They had a tour and did a couple of classes.

HappyPumpkin81 · 19/06/2021 22:41

I'm done too. I have another week trapped at home as my toddler has been a close contact of an infected child at nursery. I will have to keep her at home while working into the wee small hours to keep my job, it's only been four weeks since our last isolation. My work will be pissed off and my reputation tarnished further. I can't get my hair done, or shop for my sister's birthday present, and I'm paying for dance classes, childminders and cleaners that I cannot use. The endless bloody messages of 'support' from nursery and test and protect when there is actually fuck all support. Letters to my MSP may as well be thrown into the abyss, he is a staunch supporter of the SNP line and would not raise a whisper of criticism. Where are the riots and the voices raised in anger?!

Some fans helped clear up the mess, my ds amongst them. Save your bit of embarrassment for something worthwhile.
BlueBoob · 19/06/2021 22:52

Wonder if big Nicky is on here.

Maybe we should tweet her and suggest she sets up an anon account.

NoMontaguesOrCapulets · 19/06/2021 22:55

@Bytheloch Thank you, I appreciate that. We've worried so much about our more needy kids, but obviously football is more important!

And I'm so glad at least some P7s have had a high school visit!

MichelleScarn · 19/06/2021 22:58

@Firingpingpongs The amount of money I see being spent makes me quiver. I go for my jag wearing a mask but I have to discard it and accept the one preferred by them.
Yes,.this. I had a miscarriage recently and the first question l was asked when I presented at the early pregnancy unit reception desk while in pain and bleeding was 'is that your own mask?! You need to put this on instead.'

MichelleScarn · 19/06/2021 23:00

Sorry that was a bit much, but to be made to feel guilty to bring dh in to that horrific scan with me while football fans were whooping it in the 1000s has really upset me.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 19/06/2021 23:09

That's grim, Michelle. Jobsworth.

NoMontaguesOrCapulets · 19/06/2021 23:09

Oh, that's horrendous @MichelleScarn. I really hope you're ok and have the support you need. So many of the horrible things people have endured throughout this whole thing will never be measured Flowers

Wakeupin2022 · 19/06/2021 23:09

Michelle

Flowers sorry you had to go through that.

I can't pretend to know how hard that must have been and absolutely do not feel guilty for having your DH with you. You needed him and he needed to be there too.

Lockdownbear · 19/06/2021 23:11

The P7s got to do their visits but the new P1s only got a 45min playground visit. Just so unfair esp for kids who might be nervous about starting school.

Im also pissed off that only one parent will be allowed in the playground for their first day, seriously nonsense.
