Starting this thread for those of us who are done. I don’t want to just rail or fight about it with those who still believe that government messaging is in our best interest. Enough is enough.

I really really hope that is not a Visit Scotland adConfused

conkersarebonkers · 19/07/2021 18:54

@WouldBeGood

Anyone seen this charming new advert?
This doesn't look like an official ad. Where did you see it?
StarryEyeSurprise · 19/07/2021 18:57

@WouldBeGood

Anyone seen this charming new advert?
This is an unofficial Scottish version of the Welsh PH adverts.
WouldBeGood · 19/07/2021 18:58

🤷🏻‍♀️ Doing the rounds

WouldBeGood · 19/07/2021 18:58

It’s deeply unpleasant

StarryEyeSurprise · 19/07/2021 19:13

Unpleasant? Because Welsh laws are different?

StarryEyeSurprise · 19/07/2021 19:14

Unfortunately, many appear to believe that the removal of the covid restrictions in England apply to the rest of the four nations of the UK when , of course, England is the exception.

WouldBeGood · 19/07/2021 19:20

Because it’s a stupid and unwelcoming pic for a country which relies massively on tourism.

WouldBeGood · 19/07/2021 19:20

Engjsnd is the only one with any bloody sense on this now. Enough is enough

WouldBeGood · 19/07/2021 19:22

I can’t be arsed with another intervention on the SH being wonderful lifesavers @StarryEyeSurprise. I’m exhausted and thoroughly pissed off and this is the enough thread.

Unfortunately, many appear to believe that the ‘our rules’ covid restrictions in Scotland should apply to the rest of the nations of the UK when, of course, Scotland is the exceptionally bad nation at managing Covid just now.

Enough is enough even in Wales 🤷‍♀️

I genuinely tried really hard to memorise what FACTS stood for but to this day can probably remember 3 of them if I really think about it, which of course I don't tend to if I'm out and about. I have to say 'hands, space, face' is much snappier and doesn't require concentration, and it works over tannoys etc. in shops too (which FACTS obviously doesn't), which may be why lots of the places round here have just gone with the English version anyway.

I see from the Zoe app that symptomatic COVID across the UK has levelled off completely which might indicate the high numbers of positives are just from regular testing, and with luck England opening up completely won't be as bad as the doom mongers are predicting. The world is watching to see if this works out, and much as I'm sure many would enjoy seeing it all go disastrously wrong (including perhaps some on this board), if it works out other countries will probably follow. Even NS will eventually have to grow a pair and take the plunge as there will never be a completely 'safe' moment. Infectious disease experts are now starting to think that even with a fully vaxxed population, the highish R0 number and high mutability of COVID means sterilising immunity probably won't be possible.

ResilienceWanker · 19/07/2021 20:07

It's not a Welsh government PH poster starry. Surely that's obvious?! It's made by someone on twatter who claims to be "professionally Welsh", apparently. Yes, the laws are different, but the WG knows that this isn't the way to get that across!

ResilienceWanker · 19/07/2021 20:18

I know what FACTS stands for Halo But it is rubbish, and it doesn't say anything that hands, face, space ~~fresh air~~ doesn't. Apart from "S = self isolate and get tested with symptoms" (catchy) and that is hardly something you need to remember when walking round ASDA anyway.

That's the trouble - the UK gov and their nudge department is really pretty good at their 3 word slogans. The SG just try to go one further and get it wrong by trying to be too worthy. Like the whole 5 tier system rather than 3. At least they went for "Test & Protect" quite early on, rather than their initial version of "test, trace, isolate, support" - and I have to say, that is better than track test and trace, which is a bit too Royal Mail for me...

WouldBeGood · 19/07/2021 20:31

@ResilienceWanker 🏅 though should be a saltire, obviously 😂

ResilienceWanker · 19/07/2021 20:40

Grin Thank you. I will have it stuffed. And displayed in our downstairs bathroom.

Scottishskifun · 19/07/2021 21:59

As if the tourist industry hasn't had it tough enough some idiot goes and makes that!

Friends have recently cancelled their trip to Scotland for next month and instead moved it to a different part of England. They said case rates are still too high up here and they want to feel like they are on holiday not having to book everything and constantly stand in the right spot etc.

After our trip at the weekend to England can't say I blame them either! 3 weeks til our next venture over the border can't bloody wait!

forfucksakenett · 20/07/2021 21:12

I'm currently on holiday in Scotland. Lots and lots of happy English folk enjoying themselves. Wearing a mask in the local shops without grumbling and happily eating at cafes and restaurants. 🤷🏻‍♀️

WouldBeGood · 20/07/2021 21:16

My holiday in Scotland was shite. Covid mental

WouldBeGood · 20/07/2021 21:16

But I appreciate @forfucksakenett you are an evangelist for the SG

They're onto plums then as , taking into account population, cases in England are 4 times those in Scotland.
forfucksakenett · 20/07/2021 21:22

No I'm really not but you keep telling yourself that because seemingly your brain can't cope with anything that doesn't fit in with the whole Scotland = bad, England = good narrative that pervades these threads.

Sorry your holiday was shite but that doesn't mean everyone's is. Smile

Scores of happy English folk here. Next time I'm chatting to any of them I'll let them know they're supposed to be hating it.

StarryEyeSurprise · 20/07/2021 21:23

New cases stats.

Hope you're having a lush holiday @forfucksakenett! Amazing weather for it.
