Scotland- Enough is enough

Starting this thread for those of us who are done. I don’t want to just rail or fight about it with those who still believe that government messaging is in our best interest. Enough is enough.

Enough IS enough though! At present it's totally illogical. Spend all night in the pub with your mates, go clubbing, attend mass events like weddings.

But wear your mask to go into Tesco.

forfucksakenett · 13/07/2021 17:15

The clinically vulnerable aren't likely to be at a pub all night or a club. Many of them will be forced to miss weddings and so on. Most, on the other hand, won't be able to avoid Tesco.

That's the difference.

But you're right. Enough is enough. Who cares about the clinically vulnerable. 🤷🏻‍♀️ tough titty to them.

Scottishskifun · 13/07/2021 17:33

Tbf @forfucksakenett I don't think many clinically vulnerable are going into supermarkets and opting instead for deliveries.

My friend who is clinically vulnerable does go to cafes and pubs with outdoor seating and she always uses a FFP3 mask to protect herself in her job where she can't avoid people.

RaraRachael · 13/07/2021 17:38

I was in a large shopping centre on Saturday and found wearing a mask all the time almost unbearable. Being in shops that didn't have air con actually made me feel faint and I had to leave them. If masks are so amazing at stopping transmission, why are people still getting Covid in their thousands. If people want to wear masks ad infinitum, that's fine. I, for one, are sick and tired of the bloody things. It should be left up to individuals if they want to continue wearing them.

GoldenOmber · 13/07/2021 17:40

Yeah, I do wonder if it would make more sense to provide FFP2 or FFP3 masks to anyone vulnerable who wants them along with professional fit-testing. Rather than have protection rely on everyone else around them wearing cloth masks by law, when it’s not really enforceable and not everyone is able to wear them anyway.

TheGenealogist · 13/07/2021 17:48

Plus all clinically vulnerable adults have also had double doses of the vaccine.

There comes a point where we realise this is as good as it gets. That the vaccines are doing their job by stopping as many people dying and getting seriously ill. That "zero covid" is a pipe dream impossibility and that we have to get on with it.

forfucksakenett · 13/07/2021 17:51

I thought those masks had to be fitted professionally?

It's a huge financial burden for the clinically vulnerable to have to pay for deliveries and ffp3 masks.

I'm happy to wear a mask in Tesco so they can do their shopping a wee bit more safely.

Face fit and face fit trainers just show you how to ensure that you have a good protective fit. There are many videos which demonstrate how to do it. They don't really work with beards as by nature it has to be a tight fit.

Cloth masks and disposable surgical masks only protect against large droplets they don't stop smaller aerosol particles which can build up in poor ventilated areas hence the newer variants are easier to catch more airborne less viral load required even if everyone was wearing a mask (properly).

I don't mind what people decide to do just don't judge people who aren't wearing one or make assumptions about them.

forfucksakenett · 13/07/2021 21:10

I don't either. I've never judged a person when out and about for not wearing a mask.

CrouchEndTiger12 · 13/07/2021 21:12

Regarding the football fans as a Londoner, we didn't want them here either.

I'm CV too (as I'm sure many of us are once you hit 40 and the chickens come home to roost!) - but we have to accept that this is as good as it gets. There are no guarantees, but I've never lived in fear of flu, or chickenpox or TB or a myriad of other nasties out there.

*I've had chickenpox as an adult and have never been vaccinated against TB. Thems the breaks right?

WouldBeGood · 14/07/2021 23:14

I live in fear of what’s left of my debauched life being destroyed by restrictions which are in place to comfort people with irrational fears

TheGenealogist · 15/07/2021 08:05

Swinney has said masks and restrictions until Christmas.

They have COMPLETELY lost the plot.

dementedma · 15/07/2021 08:10

Gutted that the date for office workers to go back has been pushed back. We are the forgotten workforce. Absolutely every other type of business has employees back, while 16 months on my team continue to "work from home/live at work". Some are working from bedrooms and kitchens. Kids are on school holiday. And our huge, covid compliant office sits empty. Where is the fucking logic?

latissimusdorsi · 15/07/2021 08:38

@TheGenealogist

Swinney has said masks and restrictions until Christmas.

And we all know they won't be able to ease any restrictions left in depth of winter So that next April thenConfused
Beepbeeprichie · 15/07/2021 08:38

There is more than one way to be vulnerable. It seems the government is focusing only on those that are physically vulnerable while mental health problems and lack of work creates thousands of mentally and financially vulnerable people.
Just back from Newcastle. Somehow it doesn’t feel so oppressive there.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 15/07/2021 08:55

I have a feeling we may be escaping over the border for a bit of relief more and more over the next 6-9 months as England enjoys having come out the other side of their exit peak and living pretty much normally, while Scots are more heavily locked down for their own 'safety' ('cos that's worked out so well so far...).

I was just noticing this morning that excess deaths in Scotland have been running above the 5 year average for a few weeks, whereas those in the UK as a whole are below the 5 year average. The impact of harsher restrictions coming through maybe? Overall excess deaths look pretty similar between the two nations (England still has slightly more, but I think the gap has narrowed since they've been negative for a few weeks and we haven't). Makes me think that for all the gnashing of teeth about being 'responsible' and daily televised addresses, and harsher restrictions causing more damage more widely, we'll end up in pretty much the same place death wise anyway (but with businesses and mental health etc. in the ground).

WouldBeGood · 15/07/2021 09:21

I’m going to get my hair cut in England when the mask mandate is lifted

WouldBeGood · 15/07/2021 09:23

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us I think that’s right. No measures anywhere, other than vaccinations, have made significant differences to deaths, but have had worse outcomes for society otherwise.

RaraRachael · 15/07/2021 09:29

Are we going to have Tier -1, -2 etc when we will be actually be allowed to have a normal life - no bloody masks, no distancing?

What do the SG think they need to prove by keeping us under the cosh when much of Britain will be living fairly normally.

SO, so sick of all this.

GoldenOmber · 15/07/2021 10:05

June 2047 and we’ll be in Level -32. One-way systems still in place in shops and several people have now been trapped in the Princes Street Boots for over 10 years, endlessly looping round the low-calorie snacks. Indoor gatherings to have 24 people from max 6 households, outdoor gatherings max 11 households but you must keep 8.4 inches apart. Soft play may open but ONLY if it’s got a big slide and does Rocky Road at the cafe, which classes it as a theme park. Masks mandatory on shops and public transport.

Bytheloch · 15/07/2021 10:34

🤣 at the loop around Boots! Though, think you’ve been generous with the year 2042 @GoldenOmber I’d go for summer 2022, the way things are heading.

Where did the CovidSwinneyBot say that about masks today?

My usually very stoic "doric" dad is muttering hari-kari. Hurrah for making the OAPs feel "safe".

@WouldBeGood I feel a bit like that too. I'm getting to the age where a night on the sofa with a glass of wine is as appealing as a night out but I'm not psychologically ready to give up yet! Things need to open up properly while I still have some energy.

Grin I used to get stuck in the Princes St boots at the best of times, so I can well believe this...
