Can’t believe it’s needed….

Definitely see an increase in twitchiness on Twitter - I hear more drop in clinics operating for second jabs in Edinburgh - what's the smallest reliable interval you can get the second jab in, is it 8 weeks or can it be less?

We are just nudging 7 weeks tomorrow and I'd like dh to get it done ASAP.

riverrunning · 29/06/2021 09:28

Are we all about to see increased restrictions again because of the football? I hope not...

Lockdownbear · 29/06/2021 09:40

I honestly think 85% of people will ignore further restrictions.

And the 15% who'll follow are the people who have lots to loose at the risk of being caught, ie lawyers, police and judges.

Lockdownbear · 29/06/2021 09:41

But I don't actually think SG are stupid enough to try more restrictions just now. People have had enough.

ssd · 29/06/2021 09:45

I think the way they rolled out the vaccination program needs addressed, why they didn't copy England and let us book online is a mystery. The English system seems miles ahead and so much easier to use.

ssd · 29/06/2021 09:52

I dont know anyone who actually knows the restrictions now

charliebrown59 · 29/06/2021 09:58

I submitted the missed appt thing per bbc advice (and scot gov I think), had an acknowledgment (to get appt moved from 12 weeks to 8 weeks) and heard nothing, not a sausage.

I assume we are waiting for a letter but 8 weeks is next Wednesday for us.

Agree that the online system is miles better than 'wait for a letter with your randomly assigned time that may or may not be convenient' system. Part of me is also wondering what advantage there is to having multiple systems across the UK (vaccines, test and trace, different systems of restrictions) and whether it wouldn't have just been simpler and more efficient to have one UK-wide response overall.

The ideal is 8 weeks as the trials show it offers the highest and longer T cell memory but its also effective after 21 days.

So if all around you is dropping like flies then it might be worth just doing it! DH was sent a appointment for only a 6 week gap but think he was in the several thousand sent which were wrong.

ssd · 29/06/2021 10:21

My friend registered as an unpaid carer and it took bloody ages for her appointment to come through

riverrunning · 29/06/2021 10:29

Thanks scottishskifun - it's a tricky dilemma! If they are running any drop ins this Saturday we'll be 7.5 weeks...

Remember it takes 2 weeks after vaccination for it to be at its full protection. There is very little difference in 3/4 days so as long as they are willing to do it (anecdotally in my area they have been). I think boosters are highly likely going forward anyway!
Scottishskifun · 29/06/2021 10:42

Pretty much! DH has to follow the rules due to his job but because of his job he also knows every loophole going for stuff!

Its one of the reasons why we booked so many trips to England this summer and even if SG try a blanket travel restriction then we already have several exemptions so will just travel anyway!

I don't think SG will be as stupid to try and enforce travel restrictions again I'm just glad that Borris doesn't do what Nicola does in the name of public health aka her own agenda and blocks people from Scotland!

The sadistic side of me does finds a very small part amusing though given how many months were Scots told that English people were virus ridden and we had to protect ourselves....... 🙄 Yep that one paid off clearly and the new variant was detected in Glasgow very early on so its our own home grown spread!

ssd · 29/06/2021 10:49

How are you doing now ski?

Scottishskifun · 29/06/2021 11:49

Still having up and downs @ssd thankfully some of the private therapy treatments I'm doing is helping the muscle pain and spasms so I'm no longer granny shuffling about and have increased my walking abilities without an inhaler every 100 m which for me at 35 is huge!

But fatigue and headaches are still bad and I'm 3 weeks now in constant fevers of 38.5 if I don't control it which is knackering!

I'm very accepting that I just have to suck it up, get back to work and just deal with it I'm very fortunate in a public sector role so trying to get a phased return to work on a grand total of 5 hours a week 😬

I'm still very pissed off about the lack of support even basic things like knowing to take b complexes, magnesium and high strength vit D can help a bit with fatigue! I'm fortunate enough to afford the £400+ a month I'm spending on private therapies, private blood tests and supplements but I'm so angry that so many people like me are just left! If I hadn't done my own research by listening to the info coming out of English long covid clinics then I would be screwed. GPs don't have the time or resources to deal with this!

WouldBeGood · 29/06/2021 12:20

Did you get the blood tests you mentioned @ssd?

OP posts:
riverrunning · 29/06/2021 12:29

And the incidence of long covid seems very significant so much better support needed.

And the second jab envelope has arrived! Interestingly the policy of booking adults in together has been abandoned.

So by the week of 26 July we can look forward to a holiday and immunity from serious covid related illness

WouldBeGood · 29/06/2021 12:30

Not @ssd sorry! @Scottishskifun 🙄

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 29/06/2021 15:35

@WouldBeGood yes I got a round of private blood tests they show my body is in a inflammation response, my vit D levels are too low (despite high strength vit D apparently for some long covid suffers use of vit D is high) and my cholesterol is way too low (the good stuff which helps new cells/repair) so my diet has been adjusted to try and increase it and my Dr then listened to me and ran some further bloods on the inflammation markers! Still took me spending money to even get that though!

ssd · 29/06/2021 17:28

Thats awful you have to go to those lengths ski, there definitely needs more attention paid to this in Scotland. Its unbelievable nothing is being done. Totally out of order.

Scottishskifun · 29/06/2021 18:33

Yeah it's beyond shit it's a bloody scandal! But most people with long covid don't have the energy to fight or make enough noise!

Some of the most frustrating parts is so easy to resolve like your told to go read stuff online etc...... Except reading is a high energy task and screens aren't great I can do short bursts but that's it. If they simply made things into a listening format it would help! I listen to videos from English specialists for instance as I can't watch them.

Nobody has the time it appears in Scotland to try and assist long covid sufferers at all unless you pay for it, it's no wonder one of the symptoms listed is depression!

WouldBeGood · 29/06/2021 19:08

Glad at least you’re getting some help @Scottishskifun, though it’s shite you have to pay to kickstart it

Had fun watching the England game with DS, who supports them. I was also happy to see Anas Sarwar wish them well: refreshing.

DP is not happy though 😂

No one is happy here either, i couldn't care less either way Confused

Glad to see England through as the only home nation left to carry the flag.
