@ResilienceWanker listening to the radio this morning, this story has been known about for a couple of months. Interesting that it breaks a week or so after Cummings reveals that Johnson thinks Hancock to be an idiot.
Hancock is being set up to be the fall guy for the contradictory rules and a convenient scape goat for anyone unhappy with covid rules. I suspect he'll have to resign over the weekend- not so much for the affair, but for the hypocrisy regarding contact and the partisan nature of her employment.

You don't usually get this level of excitement with Scottish parliament. I can't imagine our dismal lot having affairs ( not that I'm saying its a good thing).

SoMuchForSummerLove · 25/06/2021 13:29

Swinney in an affair scandal would be almost as Envy as John Major and Edwina Currie.

riverrunning · 25/06/2021 14:07

That footage of Hancock kissing the other woman is bound to be some sort of classic internet meme for the opposite of sexy - just when you thought the karaoke video was as bad as it could get!

riverrunning · 25/06/2021 14:08

So you think boris has given Hancock his backing for him to fall decently on his sword this weekend rookie? Interesting to see.

Is he going to resign to focus on his family whilst admitting nothing? You may be right.

ResilienceWanker · 25/06/2021 14:18

Yes, I think the "falling on his own sword" thing might be what they are going for, then. On the Covid rule break rather than the moral angle Shock. He doesn't seem to be playing ball so far though. And you can hardly blame him, given how many people have got away with similar rule breaks and an apology mentioning no ferriers . I imagine he will be in "discussions" with BoJo as we speak...and he gets told what other stuff they have on him. If it wasn't MH you could almost feel sorry for him. But, no - not really.

titsintiers · 25/06/2021 14:27

Matt Hancock must've a lot of dirt on big bad Boris too, surely?

ResilienceWanker · 25/06/2021 14:39

Oh yes... They'll be comparing their respective dossiers. Wink

Scottishskifun · 25/06/2021 14:45

I think you can tell its from a disgruntled whistleblower rather than a BJ leak as he would have sacked him if it came from him as it would be the golden ticket!

Its always the same though it will blow over in a few weeks time when the papers will move onto the next thing and the mess of affairs and family destruction will be left!

They should all bloody know better!

titsintiers · 25/06/2021 14:47

Yep, a bunch of walking hardons

SoMuchForSummerLove · 25/06/2021 15:05

BJ can't sack him! He can't imply that a cheater can't be a trustworthy member of cabinet. I think the only way they could get him here would be for contravening social distancing guidelines, but they do clearly don't give a toss that they won't pursue it.

ResilienceWanker · 25/06/2021 15:12

It's not looking good for MH. BJ has full confidence in him, apparently. So he'll be out by the end of the weekend.

If this is the first his wife and family knew of it, it must be devastating for them. God - why do we let such a bunch of self serving wankers be in charge, hey?

ResilienceWanker · 25/06/2021 15:31

Can I just have a quick rail about the tiers... I know it's all very passe now, but NS seems to have forgotten that quite a few council areas are still in tier 2, while the rest are in tier 1 or 0, and those no longer seem to bear any relation to the current case numbers or, well, anything really. East Lothian is currently in number 1 spot, at nearly 500 cases per 100k, while Glasgow is at about half that... around 250. But Glasgow is in tier 2 and EL in 1. And there's probably even more outrageous discrepancies. Bet soft play owners are just loving those. I know everywhere is going a bit crazy now, and now may well not be the time to relax anything further, but, really?! If you're not going to move people up or down tiers until the 19th, why not at least give everyone the same rights?

ElephantOfRisk · 25/06/2021 15:50

Yep, I railed about this earlier in the week. Stirling is 132/100k and is still tier 2. we were just over 100 yesterday and positive test numbers are dropping but the couple of day lag has pushed up the number today.

ResilienceWanker · 25/06/2021 16:02

Oh yes - Stirling seems to have been shafted quite a lot throughout this too, I remember SadAngry. Shows just how well the harsher restrictions work, really. Definitely worth the bankruptcy of all those businesses, no question.

It's so odd. At some point I thought they had grasped that variable tiers weren't going to work, and Scotland was all going to move together. And then they changed their mind on that by keeping Glasgow at tier 3, and then realised that they'd have to reinstate the travel ban out of tier 3 areas in that case, and all of a sudden we're back to last November...but we aren't, because we're now living with the virus, so no need to change tiers and everyone's going to tier 0 on the 19th. I'm not really thinking we've got a clear consistent and easily understandable strategy going on here. Maybe we did at some point (not convinced) but surely no one can say it's not a giant scribbly mess at the moment?!

ElephantOfRisk · 25/06/2021 16:10

Yes I know, I appreciate that Glasgow had the longest/hardest lock down but honestly Stirling hasn't been far behind and without the numbers to show for it either. Not that I think that strategy helped or worked anyway, but business is on it's knees, the shopping centre is empty and the already many empty units has been added to with smaller businesses not reopening. I'm not quite sure what we've done...

WouldBeGood · 25/06/2021 16:11

Scotland is just too small for different tiers. It’s stupid

Anyone else watching Glastonbury from 1990s on tv. Will we ever see the likes again? Will my teens ever get to a music festival on that scale before they turn 40!
Railing about everything our young people are missing at time in their lives they will never get backAngry

ElephantOfRisk · 25/06/2021 23:07

Saw something about it being the first time in many years that the birth rate in the UK has dipped below the death rate and they were wondering why...

No fucking shit sherlock - young folk have been unable to meet up and form relationships and procreate for much of the year and families have been locked up with their young children with everything shut - so they definitely don't want any more after that experience...! Then you have issues with people being unable to do their IVF treatments and what's left?

The only folk having kids are existing partners who are first time parents and don't know any better Grin

Haudyourwheesht · 26/06/2021 07:15

God, you're right about the tiers. If the numbers are changing why are some authorities left rotting in 2 while others have seemingly unconditional freedom? Hugely inconsistent. Plus we can travel anyway so those businesses who are unluckily enough to have a postcode in one of the damned areas must be raging.

Lockdownbear · 26/06/2021 10:08

Even if you were in a relationship ready to start a family, why would you want to be pregnant in the middle of a pandemic with worrys about the virus, affects on babies and financial concerns.

I remember reading women's concerns this time last year. My thoughts were if you'd time on your side, hold off, let things settle, if you were mid 30s then I'd be more likely to take the chance but be super careful.

Scottishskifun · 26/06/2021 10:39

@Lockdownbear because its not going anywhere. I think initially people did put it on hold for a bit but after 4 months it became evident this is never going away and it can take a long time for some to conceive.

Most of my friends held off til end of last summer then it was obvious it wasn't magically going away so just got on with it.

Women's services though have been horrific and many of the rules extremely cruel for many months. They seem to be getting better but only with high level of backlash and lobbying. One Welsh authority still bans partners from maternity ward visits for example even now.

ElephantOfRisk · 26/06/2021 10:59

I've just emailed all my MSPs asking for an explanation of the level 2 in Stirling. I'll update with any replies.

I suppose it's not the same thing as I found out I was pregnant with baby ds the day after lockdown was announced but I don't think I'd have stopped ttc if I hadn't been pregnant that month. It took us 15 months to conceive this time and I don't think most people thought these restrictions would have been going on for so long.
