@Groovee

I read my LFT wrong 🤦🏻‍♀️ it's negative but jeez it shook me up. I need a long lie.
Hope you're ok. Yes - C for control on a covid test , brilliant (!)
mondaywine · 21/06/2021 07:16

@Haudyourwheesht

We're supposed to stay 2m away from pupils at all times (although obviously not always practical!) so I don't think any teachers in my school have been required to isolate as a result of a positive case in their classes. I also don't think any teacher has tested positive as a result of being in the classroom. Another example of the 'just get on with it' attitude in secondary schools.
Quite a different situation in primaries though. We have no social distancing in Infants or nursery. We have had staff throughout the school getting Covid and being called to isolate since May.
rookiemere · 21/06/2021 07:19

Thanks all, with any luck we won't get the letter from school this week. It's taken me back to that horrible time at Christmas when it was all - yes you can go and see your relatives - only to have it swept away at the last minute.

If we can't go - it sounds melodramatic over a first world issue like a wee holiday- but I think I'll need to go to the doctors and get anti-ds. I can't live like this any more, I don't see how anyone can. It's also the glaring inequality of it - if you're Michael Gove you can piss of to Portugal to watch the football and don't have to self isolate as that's for plebs. I'm so sorry for those with real problems like illness and long Covid that I'm so weak.

I need to contact my other friend about planned holiday to Majorca last week of school holidays. We'll definitely pull out now, I'm not playing Russian Roulette with DSs first week and a bit in S4 - if the schools are even open at that point.

Anyone watching the new series of The Handmaids Tale ? I've saved it up as a treat to watch tonight for light relief - it may push me over the edge Grin.

shouldistop · 21/06/2021 07:24

@rookiemere you're not weak at all. Isolation etc is a form of torture.
I didn't realise there was a new series, I'll check it out :)

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 08:00

@Groovee that’s like misreading a pregnancy test 😂

@rookiemere you’re not weak at all. This is psychologically torturous, this situation 💐

Scottishskifun · 21/06/2021 08:13

@rookiemere not weak at all we have been away for 10 days DS with a cough and me with a ongoing low fever! Before the covid police shoot me down we can't have covid tests as still within the time period DS cough has been for weeks now and I have long covid so have common fever cycles!
Even my Dr said it won't be another case of covid!

If you want to double check can always do a home lateral flow test before you go but understand completely if you don't!

shouldistop · 21/06/2021 09:59

Good day so far today! Ds1 got himself dressed with no direction or fuss this morning before nursery, ds2 is napping and I'm watching the new episode of handmaids tale, have a washing hanging out and dh is taking the baby at lunchtime so I can do a yoga class Smile

We've been practising dressing, zips, buttons, pencil grip and name writing with ds1 for school. If any primary school teachers on here have any other tips that would be great Smile

Railing at the "Curriculum for Excellence" again, and the SGov "judge us on education..." . The OECD report has pointed out what everyone knew, that the "holistic" approach is pretty pointless when there are exams, with a syllabus and standards of knowledge to attain for particular grades and whatnot. So all the nice play based and gentle learning in primary has to be dumped in high school as they work towards exams. And the pupils end up getting rather confused and bored. So many primaries end up easing their pupils into this style of learning earlier, so they don't get left behind at exams. Which kind of defeats the point, surely...? I can't see how any change to that system could work, though. Children are always going to have to have the experience of exams, rather than just continuous assessment (which is stressful enough as it is... see the "exams that aren't exams" this year) if they have ambitions to move into another educational system at any point. And I'm not sure if eg highers or advanced highers will be accepted as alternatives for A levels for English unis, if the assessment is so different (and given student caps etc in Scottish unis, there may be no option for some). Who knew it would end up in such a mish-mash at the expense of the children??

Wonder why that report wasn't published earlier, then?

Mistressinthetulips · 21/06/2021 12:41

That's my dd isolating from primary as of today. So fed up!

titsintiers · 21/06/2021 13:17

Bugger @Mistressinthetulips!

runningpink · 21/06/2021 13:33

@shouldistop not a teacher but I try and get the kids I nanny for to do those you have listed. Here are a few others I can think off:
being able to open packets like crisps at play time is useful
Cutlery? Being able to cut food up without help if having school dinners
Shoes off and on themselves

My mind has gone blank so I will be back if i think of anything else.

runningpink · 21/06/2021 13:34

@Mistressinthetulips is it your DDs whole class or the few close contacts?

That’s such a shame she is missing out on the last few days of school. Hope it doesn’t interfere with any holiday plans you have?

shouldistop · 21/06/2021 13:35

Thanks @runningpink he's already good with shoes, we'll practice packets but I'll probably just send fruit for his snack. Practicing cutlery more is a good idea, thanks!

shouldistop · 21/06/2021 13:35

@Mistressinthetulips that's rubbish Sad

ElephantOfRisk · 21/06/2021 13:54

@shouldistop Not a teacher either but being able to articulate that he needs the toilet before he's got to the point of being desperate. Being able to wipe his own arse properly, I'm sure he has the washing hands thing sorted (unlike half the adults in the service station toilets....). Getting his bag off and on his back? Using scissors? I'm sure most stuff is covered in nursery to be honest

I think just being able to politely ask the teacher things, there is a balance between being too scared to ask and just constantly butting in. Being a good friend? Opening and closing any water bottles or food boxes you might give him? How to deal with the lid from a yoghurt? generally keeping track of his things?

ElephantOfRisk · 21/06/2021 13:55

@Mistressinthetulips

That's my dd isolating from primary as of today. So fed up!
That's such a shame :( Such a waste of time too.
ResilienceWanker · 21/06/2021 13:56

Oh shite mistress. Sorry to hear that.

shouldistop sounds like you're doing really well! DS still hasn't properly got the hang of cutlery and he's 10. He uses it, but it's hardly elegant

I've got my fingers crossed we avoid any letters/ phone calls this week too. I may fail to answer unknown numbers, I think. Things seem to have ballooned in the past couple of weeks... Got a letter from the council this morning saying "um, maybe don't go mixing bubbles just yet...were hanging on by a thread here, guys" (I paraphrase Wink) which doesn't bode well. And then went on about having a long, hot summer ahead of us, and I thought they have finally lost it.

Mistressinthetulips · 21/06/2021 14:39

Thanks for the commiserations! It isn't the whole class, it's childcare related.
Awaiting the test results, hopefully tonight sometime.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 21/06/2021 15:57

Heart is in my mouth every time I get any communication from the school now - and they essentially spam us multiple times a day!

Two people been sent home from my workplace - one tested positive yesterday, the other today after coming in this morning with a terrible cough Angry

I'm not a contact so let's hope that's where the spread has stopped she said hopefully.

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 16:25

Thars not good, @SoMuchForSummerLove!

DS staying off now. His year is rife with positive tests and no shows. Don’t want to risk him isolating.

OP posts:
rookiemere · 21/06/2021 16:34

Bummer @Mistressinthetulips .
We got the hanging on in there by a thread letter. DS thankfully not on isolation list, but Russian roulette sending him in.
Only two days to go surely he can limp through it without being identified.

itsjustlowhangingfruit · 21/06/2021 18:39

an entire high school in our town has closed today due to an increase in positive cases amongst staff and pupils.

they are to do online learning for the rest of the week. bit pointless considering term ends on thursday.

DDs school is still open.

Lockdownbear · 21/06/2021 19:15

Thats rotten hope it doesn't interfere with too many holiday plans

runningpink · 21/06/2021 19:47

I’m starting to feel that impeding doom feeling kicking in again! 😩

Is she due any announcements this week?

titsintiers · 21/06/2021 20:07

There's one tomorrow @runningpink
