Can’t believe it’s needed….

There is a whole high school year group that’s to stay at home tomorrow and some from another year group at the high school my friends kids go to.

The full year group are to wait and see if they get contacted.

I have a feeling there will be very few pupils at the school tomorrow as parents will pull them out now to save risk of isolation. (Schools finish on Wednesday here)

WouldBeGood · 20/06/2021 19:51

Gosh, @runningpink.

What do the teachers on here think about kids being pulled from school this week?

Lots of my class are away on holiday this coming week. It happens every year. Holidays outside term time are extortionate - I would do it myself if I could! I don't think I'll have any missing school 'just incase' to be honest but my school hasn't had huge amounts of cases.

WouldBeGood · 20/06/2021 20:12

Thanks @StarryEyeSurprise. I wondered if teachers would be grateful if they’re not in? It doesn’t really affect me as no holiday plans with ds.

I mean grateful in the sense of less chance of being told to isolate

I think it’s sensible pulling them out especially when they won’t be doing much for three days.

Also if folk are booked to go away at end of the week then it’s not worth the risk of being at school when there are so many cases.

If the school was covid free then I’d say keep the kids in.

Friend saying some parents are calling for them to close the school now rather than waiting three more days!

WouldBeGood · 20/06/2021 20:15

Mm..ok. I’m going to make him go tomorrow as it’s Euros PE day all day but maybe rethink after that.

No I don't think so , not for me anyway. I have some nice activities planned and for the year you have them, well they almost become like family.

I don't think many teachers will be thinking like that- it's just the luck of the draw re needing to self isolate.

WouldBeGood · 20/06/2021 20:34

@StarryEyeSurprise cheers. Mine is secondary and has trialled new timetable - s2! I’ll see who else goes. Or if they all get sent home 🤷🏻‍♀️

Haudyourwheesht · 20/06/2021 20:35

We're supposed to stay 2m away from pupils at all times (although obviously not always practical!) so I don't think any teachers in my school have been required to isolate as a result of a positive case in their classes. I also don't think any teacher has tested positive as a result of being in the classroom. Another example of the 'just get on with it' attitude in secondary schools.

Groovee · 20/06/2021 20:57

We had a lot absent the last week before Christmas. I'm not gonna judge anyone who wants to keep their family unit from isolating.

It's my biggest fear that I miss my spa day the first week of the holidays. I need something to look forward to.

runningpink · 20/06/2021 21:16

If anyone needs and deserves a spa day then it’s you @Groovee! I will keep fingers x for you

How is Mr G?

WouldBeGood · 20/06/2021 21:20

Yes, @Groovee! I’ll second that!

Well Bye Bye holiday. DS just came down to ask if I'd had an email from school. Not yet is the answer, but likely to be coming. I'd keep him off but he's S3 and has a test tomorrow for one of his subjects.

I'm so over this.

Groovee · 20/06/2021 21:29

He's really turned a corner. Able to walk and move further. Jeans were an issue today so the joggers are back out. It's a relief to finally see him on the mend. Thanks for asking x

Oh no.

I don’t think I’d cancel my holiday tbh.

rookiemere · 20/06/2021 21:33

Yeah I think we'll still go. Latest contact would have been Friday and they're unlikely to be phoning school kids to check.

Groovee · 20/06/2021 21:43

@rookiemere my nephew has just told his mum that someone has Covid in his form class. He's at GWC.

rookiemere · 20/06/2021 21:50

It's Schrodingers bloody virus. Only exists when it's tested for. Frankly at this point I neither know nor care if DS has coronavirus I just want to spend time with our extended family that we weren't allowed to see at Christmas time for a simple UK holiday that has already been rescheduled 3 times.

Our DCs are just sitting targets for this rubbish. Of course if they were adults they could hang out with 6000 people with no bloody testing.

WouldBeGood · 20/06/2021 22:04

I’d just go @rookiemere.

See you in the hot place 🔥

OP posts:
Lockdownbear · 20/06/2021 23:49

I'd be going on holiday too. So I'd be another in the hot place.

If my kids were older and we were able to WFH this week I'd be tempted to let them skip school but I can't work with nursery kid in the house and DS1 I'd loving school at the moment and I don't want to rock the boat there.

Lockdownbear · 20/06/2021 23:59

BTW I will clarify I'd be a little less blasè if I was going to a hotel but if you're self catering then I'd go unless someone in the house was actually positive.

Groovee · 21/06/2021 06:23

I read my LFT wrong 🤦🏻‍♀️ it's negative but jeez it shook me up. I need a long lie.

runningpink · 21/06/2021 06:47

I’m glad to hear Mr G is starting to get better.
Phew glad it’s negative test @Groovee

Another that would still go @rookiemere. Enough is enough now. If your family are happy to see you still them go.
