Goodluck Dementedma!
Being in the office certainly brings back a sense of normal. I've only had a couple of days in but it helps to feel normal again.

Let's face it NS and BJ haven't exactly WFH.

Few issues about the idea of people WFH on a permanent/ semi permanent basis is its difficult to culture an company 'all together' community when everyone is remote.

Very difficult to train young people, even simple things like office etiquette. A quick question that someone would ask an more experienced colleague becomes more difficult to explain and answer over a Teams call.

Even when an experienced colleague has an issue it's good to bounce off other people which is easy when people are together.

RedactedTaeFeck · 16/06/2021 23:18

Our work has packed and couriered stuff out to us such as screens to set up laptops properly and ergonomic chairs and in one case a desk. All good, but they can't courier out more space in people's houses.

One friend set up at her dining table and also at times had her S1 and 1st year uni student with her, kids bedrooms not really big enough and her husband works night shift so can't use her room either. Another had her son and daughter and herself all working from home and for companies who are competitors, one DC working in the call centre so on the phone all day.

I'm OK, DH works out the house, DS has study space in his room for uni and I have an office with proper furniture but even then you find yourself living at your work rather than working from home sometimes.

It was particularly bad when you couldn't get away from it and be doing other stuff because of the level of restriction.

RedactedTaeFeck · 16/06/2021 23:24

@WouldBeGood

I couldn’t do my work at home if anyone could overhear
I guess ours takes it such as we could tell the people we live with anything about our work at any time so they sort of become by extension part of the circle of trust. Even so, I tend to shut my office door during calls and put headphones on when listening to customer calls.

DS tends to be up in his room oblivious anyway.

It must be really hard in your position though and imagine if you had a busy household!

WouldBeGood · 16/06/2021 23:35

Yep. I’m lucky that I can find total privacy.

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 16/06/2021 23:38

My work does actually say that alternative arrangements could be made if it’s impossible to work from home

OP posts:
RedactedTaeFeck · 16/06/2021 23:42

That's good that they give you the possibility of other arrangements. I think my work have some people in but my team are not deemed a priority as we don't immediately impact on customer outcomes. Ultimately we do, but not on a day to day service basis.

latissimusdorsi · 17/06/2021 09:50

@dementedma I would go down the route of current working conditions making your fibromyalgia worse.
You have a right to properly assessed workstation for your needs even if you're home based.
This should have been done a year ago and your boss will know this. So they are already in the wrong!

The fact you do not have room for the correct workstation at home then means they will need to consider what other options are available (like a large office???)
He may be following the gov guidelines on work from home if you can but he's not following gov guidelines on safe and appropriate working practices.
Another example of Covid trumping everything elseConfused

Good luck

rookiemere · 17/06/2021 10:12

@dementedma yes they definitely need to make provisions for your medical condition and the point I was trying to make yesterday- probably very clunkily- was that lots of folks are already back working in offices even if they don't have to be, for spurious reasons. You have a good case to go back and there really shouldn't be any issue with it, or indeed any covid risk as you're the only one there.

ResilienceWanker · 17/06/2021 12:54

Entirely non covid railing, but I've just managed to spaff £650 on 2 pairs of glasses Shock Turns out my already atrocious eyesight has got even worse over lockdown so I needed a new prescription, but also, I seemed to like the most expensive frames in the shop. Damn me and my wanky eyes.

(Also, seems the way I have been wearing my mask to stop the lenses fuzzing up is what has been giving me headaches, as it's been propping my highly tuned lenses onto my eyes at the wrong angle... was convinced I was coming down with hayfever or something as it was always when I was out and about Blush. Mystery solved)

rookiemere · 17/06/2021 12:56

Oh I really need an eye test @ResilienceWanker I've been saving it up as an exciting day out during lockdown and now lockdown has ended and I'm no further forward Blush. I'll maybe wait for the next one .

ResilienceWanker · 17/06/2021 14:17

It was fun, rookiemere! They even insisted i take my mask off to get the full picture on the glasses. Felt quite rebellious. Though I appreciate my idea of fun isn't quite what it was. Anyway, you may not have long til the next lockdown when it's the only thing you can do again Wink

WouldBeGood · 17/06/2021 18:06

It’s pricey being unable to see @ResilienceWanker!

Excellent good news @WouldBeGood even with the April02 variant, sorry correction - FM now calls it Delta variant like every other UK Nation - which is more prevalent amongst us and more transmittable.

@WouldBeGood

Oooooh, yes. Fab news! (Also, I think that's today for me...i feel invincible today, in a way I didn't yesterday). Fingers crossed that follows through to the rest of the younger (working/ parenting/ pub going) population who are making up the majority of cases at the moment.
WouldBeGood · 17/06/2021 19:52

I’m a massive smunt now I’m double jagged 😂

Smunt, I'll add that to my daily vocabulary Grin

Portmanteau words rock! They can be be delightfully close to swearz but not Grin

WouldBeGood · 17/06/2021 20:40

Yes, @Lidlfix 😃

dementedma · 17/06/2021 21:45

Thanks all. To be fair they did say i could take my big swivel chair and double screens home, but as a PP said, they cant give me an extra room to put them in. I live in a flat with dh and currently adult dd and ds. Theres just no room. I filled in a workplace assessment thingy at the start of this ticking "No" in all the " do you have suitable..?"questions, so they know the situation.
It's Covid over common sense these days.

WouldBeGood · 18/06/2021 08:35

Not really railing, but an interesting article in the New Statesman, described by Joanna Cherry as “thought provoking”, on Scotland being too willing to accept mediocrity New Statesman

OP posts:
titsintiers · 18/06/2021 09:23

I always pay attention to Joanna Cherry and generally find her insightful. I didn't hear the apology to businesses earlier in the week, but it's a bit too little too late.

In terms of the football, I really hope Scotland win tonight but I'll get over it quickly if they don't .

WouldBeGood · 18/06/2021 09:31

Yes @titsintiers I read it cos she tweeted it. Takes the football and leads on to general lack of aspiration, I suppose you’d call it.

I’m looking forward to the football in a masochistic way 😂 Having people over to watch
