And he can't say your not fit to work...you didn't apply to wfm in the first place

Its a military job you do isnt it? Are they old fuddy duddy types?

WouldBeGood · 16/06/2021 19:42

What about privacy and confidentially @dementedma? Depending what you do.

I really feel for you. 💐

I think it must be up to employers in the end. I know that our Australia office had a fight on their hands, and eventually went against our company rules to let themselves back in. The rest of our (global) workforce is at home until September at least and then there will be a hybrid model implemented.

Unfortunately I think it's a 'if you don't like it you can work elsewhere' situation for a lot of people.

ssd · 16/06/2021 19:46

I feel for you too. Ive been here for years and lurked on other threads...i know you got a big promotion and you were really doing a good job before all this, i used to enjoy reading about you travelling around and attending posh do's!! Im sorry its gone pear shaped due to all this.

Haudyourwheesht · 16/06/2021 19:50

It's ironic. DH is only of only a handful of people back in the office and he'd like to be at home at least part of the time, but his bosses insist his department is in.

rookiemere · 16/06/2021 20:24

I was in the office today for the first time since March 2020.
We're a big organisation and you could book desks for "health and well-being " but I thought just wanting to be in the office wasn't enough so didn't. However was meeting a member of my new team today so it made sense.

Well what a fool am I.

There are clearly people who come in every day including a colleague who wouldn't have time to get back after the school run and has been in the office every day when the DCs have been at school. There were even wee teams of people chatting together and having lunch. It was bloody marvellous, and I got my lunch from the new sushi bar and it was lush.

I'm going in once a week now I've decided. Although I might be in my bed with pjs now after the sheer excitement of it all - and I got the bus there and back.

dementedma · 16/06/2021 20:30

@ssd - gosh, you know me so well. Yes, connected to the military and “crown servants”which is why he’s so paranoid about “doing the right thing”.
But at what point does “ if possible” become “ not possible”.
I work from the kitchen table or my bed, with a laptop on my knee. There are 3 other adults in the house, one with poor mental health and issues surrounding that. I have fibromyalgia and working at the wrong height on the wrong chairs is making things worse. I just can’t carry on and am angry and having to do this when we have a large office, all staff now double vaccinated and we can go on public transport, get haircuts, go shopping and to pubs etc, but we can’t go back to the office!
I have a meeting with him on Monday and am v scared about losing my job but I genuinely cant work from home any more. A standoff

ssd · 16/06/2021 20:38

Im sorry, ive come across as a mad stalker! I used to lurk on the bb threads and followed everyones stories...
I think getting a letter from your gp saying wfm is exacerbating your fibromyalgia as your furniture is the wrong height for working at. Surely he cant ignore that?

riverrunning · 16/06/2021 20:41

Yes dementedma the occupational health route should work. At the very least they should be able to pay for equipment/adaptations for you to work comfortably at home...of course they should have done this at the start of wfh.

WouldBeGood · 16/06/2021 20:47

Any weegies able to recommend a restaurant in Partick or thereby for lunch for me and DS?

WouldBeGood · 16/06/2021 20:49

@dementedma do you have to do calls/online meetings? If so, I’d definitely trigger the confidentiality line

Not a Weegie but had a lovely meal late 2019 with DD2 and BF in Roastit Bubbly Jocks in Patrick .

Urgh. Sounds absolutely awful demented. I agree with the others, you should be able to go back. And even if you didn't necessarily want to, you need to ensure your home working space meets your needs.

I've been ranting about this for a while... DH thinks his employer is quietly trying to remove people's offices under the guise of "well, everyone likes working from home, and you can just hotdesk if you need to come in" and then turn the offices into another kind of space, or flog them off, basically. But it seems such a really short term solution...(hotdesking isn't suitable for the majority of work they do which involves maintaining confidentiality, so they'd need to have a private space available anyway). And it is so flipping elitist, frankly. None of the people recommending this have to work from the kitchen table, or in a bedroom, with a shitty Wi-Fi in a damp, unsecured home that needs to be heated and so on. And if the employer had to cover the cost of getting everyone appropriate space, working conditions etc, they'd quickly find that, actually, it'd be better to have everyone in one space so they can share equipment...

shouldistop · 16/06/2021 21:07

@WouldBeGood

Indians quite nearby are mother India's cafe and green chilli cafe - both amazing

Italian - Celino's is good

Pub grub - Bag o nails

ssd · 16/06/2021 21:10

Celino's in Partick.....fab!!

shouldistop · 16/06/2021 21:11

@ssd really nice isn't it. We've only been once when ds1 was really small and they were so friendly and accommodating. Food was lovely.

mibbelucieachwell · 16/06/2021 21:19

DH is still WFH full time too. He loves it, but it's a pain in the neck for me. They were doing online interviews today! The potential for breeches of confidentiality is enormous. You'd think they could go in their huge old building with multiple rooms and high ceilings for ONE day). He didn't get a work laptop until this year!

Dementedma. I think you have a right to have your workplace ergonomically checked and made bespoke for you. It sounds like it isn't possible to have a set up in your home (other issues aside) that meets your physical needs. I think you may have a right to work from a properly designed space (at your work).

Back to 10 day quarantining and the English gvt's trial of daily testing (includes 1 or 2 PCR tests). Scotland does have a Public health body: Public Health Scotland. I wonder if they don't have the capacity to carry out similar trials as too small? Maybe this is why England can set up an online booking system but Scotland can't?

dementedma · 16/06/2021 21:34

Thanks all. Got lots of ammunition now.

shouldistop · 16/06/2021 21:35

Good luck @dementedma I think you've got a strong case.

WouldBeGood · 16/06/2021 21:38

Good luck @dementedma

I work with confidential stuff, home is deemed to be a secure environment just as the office is but we can't work in cafés or rent a desk type places. It really is a shame when people's needs aren't catered for. I'd go down the health and safety route.

WouldBeGood · 16/06/2021 23:14

I couldn’t do my work at home if anyone could overhear
