So irresponsible. Here we go again. Will Glasgow ever be out of lockdown?

Let's reverse the roles a second and pretend it was Celtic fans rioting in the city centre. Guaranteed rangers fans would have went too to cause trouble. Absolutely guaranteed. Yet not a hint of green was seen on Saturday.

Not that Celtic would have ever been given the opportunity to do what Rangers did. Remember the treble treble bus was cancelled and all the Celtic fans simply went home?

Yakkabee · 18/05/2021 09:16

It is true, Celtic just choose to riot at their own stadium. Because they don’t like the fact they lost some games.. not even for any real purpose. And then again a week later. At the worst point for covid cases in middle of winter. Injured police and multiple arrests.

People are so fickle.

Rangers fans 10x worse than Celtic for sure, and this incident is on another level. But being “second worst” fans in Scotland isn’t exactly a huge accolade. Both cheeks of the same *rse.

Solasta · 18/05/2021 09:44

I wouldn't have thought rangers fans would have turned up if the roles were reversed if I'm honest. With those types of numbers you would need a death wish.

User135644 · 18/05/2021 09:46

@mibbelucieachwell

So annoying. Should be called the ugly game.
Football should have been cancelled through the pandemic, but because it's the men's game it's allowed.
User135644 · 18/05/2021 09:57
@Scottishskifun I don't doubt all clubs have a small firm element. There is no other club that runs riot in the sheer numbers that Rangers do. Not one.
They had a European final in Manchester about 10 years ago and completely wrecked the place.

Morgan12 · 18/05/2021 10:18

Honestly saying the two sides are as bad as each other is blatantly ignoring the long history of Irish Catholic oppression within this country. The two sides are absolutely not as bad as each other. Not even close.

They are allowed to parade the streets ffs. They burn Catholic effigies every bonfire night.

And I can all but guarantee that none of them, not a single one, will have ever left the name of their high school off of their CV so people don't know they are Catholic.

It's actually ridiculous what they get away with and I really really hope that Saturday has opened peoples eyes to this and hopefully we start to see changes. But I highly doubt it. Because the anti Catholic hatred in this country is systematic and goes right to the top.

So please stop commenting on this thread saying celtic are as bad if you actually don't know anything about this fight. Because we are absolutely not as bad as them. Nowhere near it.

Morgan12 · 18/05/2021 10:18

And my paragraphs keep disappearing 😡

titsintiers · 18/05/2021 10:36

They should have opened Ibrox up when it became an obvious mass gathering. Might have lead to less issues in town.

Hear hear!!! So well said.

Ive never felt welcome in this, the country I was born in. Never. And that hurts.

Yakkabee · 18/05/2021 11:56

Nobody’s denying the issues.

Football clearly exacerbates this hatred. It encourages and breeds a certain mentality. Why is allowed to continue regardless? When there is a pandemic we (non fans) are subjected to all the fallout. What benefit does this bring to wider society? Money. That’s it.

They are two sides of the same *rse in that they legitimise one another. There is no rivalry without the other, it is sadly too deeply embedded to avoid.

mibbelucieachwell · 18/05/2021 12:23

yakkabee I'm not from the west of Scotland originally. I've lived in East Dunbartonshire for a long time so I'm aware of but not steeped in this horrible culture. I've assumed the police and government don't take a firmer stand out of fear for their personal safety. But the money aspect hadn't occurred to me. Can you explain further?

Again incorrect. The premier league did fine without rangers in it for years there.

Sure it did.

Reports vary but Old Firm games bring estimated 50m a match to Scotland. 70% of which spent in Glasgow. SPFL as a whole brings 200m to Scotland (in normal times). Those figures are generated by the interest in the big clubs.

thedevilinablackdress · 18/05/2021 13:03

I don't give a shiny shite about football. Get these people and their violence out of my city.
Have you heard the paramedic who worked on Saturday at George Sq talking on Radio Clyde abuse being abused and spat on??

Quincie · 18/05/2021 13:04

Ahhh. Might explain the fondness for immigrants from the Indian sub continent. No Catholics there.

All this 'Scotland is welcoming to immigrants' obviously has some quite strict criteria.

SandyCane · 18/05/2021 14:15

Saw this doing the rounds!

Here we go again with the Rangers fans.

What a vile comment.
Grellbunt · 18/05/2021 17:28

They are bonkers.

"A fenian with orange hair, look, that's f**n hilarious!!!"

I loved the school bus. Nothing to do with football.

Quincie · 18/05/2021 17:42

What a vile comment

Not at all - just flagging up the hypocrisy of pretending we are a welcoming society when we are actually already very divided.

Grellbunt · 18/05/2021 17:54

@Quincie

Getting rid of the separate religious schools might help. But no one will do it.

Nichola 's been FM for years - all she does is criticise the anti Catholic singing. Pathetic.

I hear this a lot. But I pity the poor kids who'd be in the first generation. At least I got some respite inside my actual school gates (and then got my head down to make damn sure my results would give me an escape route).

I wouldn't wish it on any kid.

Grellbunt · 18/05/2021 17:55

And tbh I'm not even sure it would even be only the first generation kids that would suffer - this is hardwired in them.

Bloodypunkrockers · 18/05/2021 18:00

What do you think would change if there were no catholic schools?

Given that a high proportion of catholic school rolls are non catholic. Including my DC

My children haven't turned out bigots by going to a catholic school

Quincie · 18/05/2021 18:05

If you started mixed schools from nursery level and continue right through.
Good Football training clubs for boys of both religions mixed - any sectarianism and you are out.
??

The numbers are massively unbalanced for a start! RC kids would be a small minority of any footbal team
RJnomore1 · 18/05/2021 18:12

I’ll repeat Celtics comment from March

We are not half of anything

Fed up of being tarred with the same brush just to minimise this lots behaviour.
