So I think what you're saying is, we shouldn't let any Scottish kids watch the match at school, in case there's one Czech kids who feels uncomfortable.
I also think you've got a massively depressing and warped view of 'supporters'. They are supporting their team to win, of course they want the other side to lose. It's a bloody competition!
Christ alive, I can't get over how seemingly fun and pleasant things for kids can get twisted. Considering how the vast majority of people on Scotsnet have moaned for 18 months about wanting their lives back, some of you are fair no happy when it begins to happen.
No. What I'm saying is that those who want to watch the game are allowed to watch it. Those who find it boring or hard or uncomfortable for whatever reason should be allowed to do something else. Due to the restrictions in place at DS's school that latter option will mean that "something else" (if available, as there could be some work later in the week based on the game, which relies on everyone having seen it) will have to be in the classroom, which limits it somewhat, given I imagine concentrating will be a bit tricky. Drawing could work, but that's not everyone's favourite either. Watching the game is fun and pleasant for some, but not for all.
I may well have a warped view. I'm not that keen on competition defined by nationality to be honest, but I realise that many people like it. I'd still hope that minorities are respected and it is made clear that its not OK to jeer at or insult opposing teams, or supporters of the opposing teams. I know the vast, vast majority of supporters don't do that obviously. But as it is so defined by nationality, it does attract those who are up for a bit of "light hearted" casual racism - from those who would be racist anyway, yes, but it still makes me uneasy. Not a hill I'm prepared to die on, though.
And yes, I do want things to go back to normal, but like many others I'm a bit pissed off that football is the thing to go back to normal first, before schools, or theatres, or soft play, or other spectator sports, or children's groups, or coaching or travel and so on and so on. Good for people who enjoy it, though - I'm not insisting everyone needs to sit in ashes bemoaning the loss of our leisure activity of choice if football is available. But I'll be very pissed off if we have further or extended restrictions as soon as Scotland crashes out of the group stages as a result.
