I got distracted and forgot what I came on to rail about. Jason Leitch at that Eurozone thingy saying everyone would get covid tests sent out and would be encouraged to do them. Even better at the event will be a mobile testing bus, wonder how many folks out at a long awaited social event will avail themselves of that.

Can't get too worked up though as have had a lovely weekend at Penrith with my friends with much shopping, eating, drinking and some walking.

WouldBeGood · 13/06/2021 19:15

Sounds good @rookiemere

I’m doing no testing ever

Double jagged now 💪

Covid at school again, taking bets for whether we'll sputter onto the end of term without isolation and totally wrecking work again. Unlikely!

Finding it hard to care though, there has been sun, glorious sun. I've got a tiny bit of sunburn (I know, derelict of me but I'm clearly getting few chances of heat this summer).

shouldistop · 13/06/2021 19:49

@riverrunning nice to get some sun.

We're still on holiday. Back in a few days. I am starting to look forward to my own bed now and cooler sleeping temperatures. Ds1 is having a blast though and that's what matters.

ElephantOfRisk · 13/06/2021 19:53

Thanks for the wishes folks, he overheard a neighbour wishing me a Happy Birthday so came across very apologetic and blamed it being missing from his phone calendar....

Anyway, I'm not going to ruin our week away by being arsey when it's not like I was looking forward to gifts and cards. If I want something I tend to just buy it myself and he knows what he did... Grin

I'm sure i'll get some sort of treat while we are away.

latissimusdorsi · 13/06/2021 19:57

Happy birthday @ElephantOfRisk
Make sure your get Cakesomewhere nice on holiday

WouldBeGood · 13/06/2021 20:08

Have a nice holiday @ElephantOfRisk.

@shouldistop holidays are hard work when kids are wee. Glad it’s fun for them.

@WouldBeGood DH was just saying how amazing it would be to go away for a week just us 2 to a really luxurious resort. I think we will for my 40th, the kids will be 7 and 11 then so I'm sure won't mind too much. MIL & BIL would just move into ours for the week I'm sure and we'd make it term time so it was less work for them.

WouldBeGood · 13/06/2021 20:15

Sounds perfect @shouldistop!

Try and get the odd weekend/night before then. It’s so nice, much as I love my dcs

Argh @riverrunning my concern is having to isolate prior to the holidays. I know it's been in schools close to the one I work in.

shouldistop · 13/06/2021 20:23

We usually get a night away together in Edinburgh in December time so hopefully we'll be able to do that this year.

WouldBeGood · 13/06/2021 20:25

Fingers crossed @shouldistop!

It's so nice reading about posters enjoying themselves.

The fear of covid has been replaced with the fear of self isolation indeed.

A pupil of mine has just had a positive test result. I think I've avoided being a close contact, but I'm not 100% sure of the timing of the test.

WouldBeGood · 13/06/2021 21:49

Oh… @mibbelucieachwell I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!

How’s MrG @Groovee?

WouldBeGood · 13/06/2021 22:54

Looks like Boris is extending restrictions for four weeks. No chance of freedom here for the foreseeable

When's the next SG update?

Pretty sure the football will bring Glasgow back up a tier.

I honestly can't see the whole country going into tier zero

At least it won't last long. Students will be back on campus in September and that will include unvaccinated international students in halls.

Then there's winter which will see an increase in cases and will there be new varients?

I also want school kids vaccinated so they can do without the masks and time off to self isolate!

Groovee · 14/06/2021 06:29

@mibbelucieachwell hope everything means you don't have to isolate.

Mr G is getting there. He's at the nurse today to check him over again as there is a concern one bit is healing at the top but not underneath.

Last 2 weeks at work. My awesome gets me through work colleague was successful in securing my job share. So she's not going to be there on my work days. It will be so strange without her.

mondaywine · 14/06/2021 07:22

Fear of isolation is very real here too. DD is now into her last two weeks of p7. Desperate for her to get this time after so much missed time. I know that if there’s a positive case in my class I will be classed as a close contact. No social distancing and whole classes routinely isolating. We go on holiday just after schools break up and dreading it being cancelled due to me having to isolate.

Lockdownbear · 14/06/2021 07:52

I imagine they'll offer vaccines to all unvaccinated international students.

WouldBeGood · 14/06/2021 08:17

I’d need to think long and hard about getting DS vaccinated as he’s 13.

Second jag for me yesterday and even weirder dreams than usual. Trying to shake a leg to get ready for vigorous fitness class.

Glad mr G doing ok @Groovee snd hope it goes ok today.

OP posts:
rookiemere · 14/06/2021 08:17

@Lockdownbear or insist they are vaccinated before they come here.

Other countries require folks to be vaccinated before entry - has scuppered my pals Iceland plans as includes under 18s - so why not the UK?

rookiemere · 14/06/2021 08:23

Reflecting on it we appear to be in a worse position than we were this time last year with no vaccines.

International travel all but off the cards, UK travel scuppered if they reintroduce Tier 3 because of stupid fanzone bumping up numbers, DCs missing education as having to self isolate due to rising cases.

Last summer I had some vague hope that things might improve, now it feels like it's going to go on forever and I won't make any holiday plans for 2022 .

My top tip is if you can, go somewhere now within the next 2-3 weeks, even if it's only an overnighter. I have little faith that restrictions won't get tighter again as the numbers go up exponentially until more folk double vaccinated.

Scottishskifun · 14/06/2021 08:32

@rookiemere numbers are definitely higher we are away at the moment in Scotland.

We won't be cancelling any England trips regardless of what happens in Scotland we are the equivalent of doubled dosed already.

I don't give 2 hoots I'm not having SG control when we see family anymore not with mid 90s DH grandparents! Sod that life is too short especially at their age!
