@Lidlfix

I also can't really comprehend the 90's being 30 years ago either. We drove past the local vaccination hub this week and I mused that the queue outside was probably the same people who waited in line together to get into our local disco - 3 decades ago.
You are now as far from 1980 as 1980 was from 1940. That blew my brains.

I remember when I'd just started work two colleagues brains being blown when they asked if I could remember old money, eh no I wasn't born then Shock. Then they realised they were working adults before I was born.

But weird thinking the millennium babies are now post-graduate working age.

Scottishskifun · 13/05/2021 22:31

@ResilienceWanker that's really frustrating our letters came through today for Grampian appointment would have been next week and we are mid 30s (didn't know this yesterday)

Re the bin list (this is just what we call it think it's a standby list is the proper term) for our area there is 2 - front line workers which was a email sign up via workplaces and then vaccination centre one (this is very end of day with 15 min to get there).
If you know anyone volunteering or jabbing you can ask. With the Pfizer they use the list rather than wasting it in the bin.
Our area is currently having quite a lot of no shows at vaccination centres partly I think due to the letter appointment set up!

ResilienceWanker · 13/05/2021 22:42

@LizzieMacQueen

My drink of choice, if you're taking orders, is the Edinburgh liqueur gin, rhubarb and ginger, topped up with Prosecco. 🍸
Ooooh, I have both of those in the cupboard. That's tomorrow evening sorted. Hadn't thought of having the gin with anything other than tonic. Whole new drinking experiences await...

More double alcohol... I’m in

It totally makes sense, and I'm not surprised there are no-shows. I don't know any jabbers though, and would have difficulty getting to any of the vaccine hubs at short notice, as they're all a good distance away (even if we had a car, which we don't!). I'm not especially concerned or desperate to get it, but I know others are, and are more deserving than me (front line young people) and I'm beginning to doubt they'll meet their July deadline (which will have implications on eg teachers in August, students starting uni and so on, because of the timings).

And on another rant, I put myself on a list to volunteer helping with jabbing ages ago (and for vaccine trials, and track and trace, and general assisting stuff) and haven't been contacted since for anything. Always nice to feel wanted! Maybe I'm on an NHS blacklist somewhere...

WouldBeGood · 13/05/2021 23:01

@ResilienceWanker it’s not just you. I volunteered too, and nothing

We can be unwanted together! If only they knew how rare it is for me to offer to do anything altruistic, they should have bitten my hand off... (basically I've been so, so bored I'd have done anything to have an excuse to leave the house).

WouldBeGood · 14/05/2021 09:46

😂 my motivation too @ResilienceWanker

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 14/05/2021 11:19

@ResilienceWanker it might be worth calling them if you haven't heard in a few days and there have been instances where letters have arrived on the day!

You can adjust the time of your appointment via the online system but you need your username which is on the letter!

Lockdownbear · 14/05/2021 13:33

Can I have a moan?

Apparently there is a covid surge in the Blackpool area, they are allowing all over 18s to book appointments.

WTF is Glasgow not doing the same?

Surely it's logical, pull resources from elsewhere in the country, get Glasgow vaccinated. 8 nearly 9 months since folk have been allowed visitors.

Mistressinthetulips · 14/05/2021 13:38

I've been locked out of the online system. I think I must have tried to view other appointments too often! Bit annoying now I'm heading towards #2

StarryEyeSurprise · 14/05/2021 13:40

They are doing the same. Most of Glasgow has low rates and Glasgow as a whole has a lower rate than Moray ( going by the 7 day rate).

There are small pockets of higher cases

( Pollockshields / Govanhill area). Over 18s are being offered vaccines here.

riverrunning · 14/05/2021 13:53

Either way, much as I hate to say it you can't help thinking the situation in general re covid is looking a bit dangerous again.

Glad the vaccines are being speeded up in hot spots

StarryEyeSurprise · 14/05/2021 13:55

I know, I share your fears too.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 14/05/2021 14:01

Agree, I was feeling really optimistic for the last few weeks, and now I feel like this will just keep happening over and over.

WouldBeGood · 14/05/2021 14:11

It doesn’t matter though as cases are not translating into hospitalisation and the vulnerable are vaccinated.

I am railing against the ridiculous scaremongering.

It’s just cruel, psychologically.

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 14/05/2021 14:12

They are going to fluctuate because its a virus which isn't going anywhere its only if it's exponential that it becomes a concern.

Unfortunately we all have to learn to live with this and as long as hospital admissions aren't increasing badly then we need to just get on with it. I say this as someone who is still on the recovery road.

Yes it's crap wish I had my vaccination before it struck but need to concentrate on speeding up jab delivery rather than continued lockdowns.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 14/05/2021 14:21

There are always going to be new variants - it has proven itself to be a highly mutable virus. As above though, the important thing is that despite an uptick in cases this isn't translating to hospitalisations, largely because the vast majority of the people who would have been hospitalised have been vaccinated and will likely have at least partial immunity. COVID is set to become endemic and will always be with us. All we can do is provide boosters to the most vulnerable and get on with it.

mibbelucieachwell · 14/05/2021 14:38

Anecdotally (according to my Twitter feed) the AZ vaccine is thought to be working in India. It's what the Indian medics have had and they aren't being reinfected with covid.

There seems to be more evidence that the AZ vaccine is effective against the Indian strains than the SA strain. So if the Indian variant becomes the dominant strain in the UK that might not be a bad thing.

Scottishskifun · 14/05/2021 14:40

Got my fingers crossed for all those in Glasgow today!

Although would say if Moray is held back and Glasgow isn't then it confirms what many people suspect up here of one rule for Central belt with NS and another for those of us not in it!

I really hope there is some sense though and SG stop using there table which doesn't factor in vaccination or hospital rates!!!!!!

Otherwise suggest booking a trip to England!

ElephantOfRisk · 14/05/2021 14:43

Glasgow 7 day rate is higher than Moray today so who knows.

Scottishskifun · 14/05/2021 14:49

This is exactly why the SG tables based on WHO levels before the vaccination was announced is so God damn flawed!!!!

England uses hospitalisation and vaccination rate not positive cases but no we had to look like we were going for the elimination strategy 🙄

Reality is starting to bite that this either means Scotland is screwed using this system or the SG need to adopt same method as England which will probably be a bitter pill for NS to say!

WouldBeGood · 14/05/2021 14:57

That’s interesting, @Scottishskifun, I didn’t know that about the counting.

Can I have a rant that we’ve booked to go on holiday next Friday pretty near the biggest outbreak in England (Erewash) and boris Johnston is refusing to rule out localised lockdowns and is making an announcement tonight at 5. I know there are bigger problems than my wee holiday but I’m really looking forward to it
