Guilt Free Railing 5

Just in case railing remains required.

OP posts:

If you think that the NHS being sold off in the rest of the UK wouldn't have an impact on us then that's very naive.

Try that one.
High numbers of police officers on standby means shipping them in from different parts of the country to help out.

Does it?
latissimusdorsi · 08/04/2021 19:09

There are many countries not in EU that don't have "eroded" workers rights. I've spent time in Australia and Canada and they don't. Nor does Switzerland

Scottishskifun · 08/04/2021 19:10

@forfucksakenett 😂 you know this is the guilt free railing thread right not the politics/independence thread...... Its for people to rant without judgement or arguments

forfucksakenett · 08/04/2021 19:11

I know it as well as you do 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not naive - it's already being sold off here and has been for years. Nothing to do with UK government.
Scottishskifun · 08/04/2021 19:12

@forfucksakenett yep usually for major operations police are used from other forces (but as now scottish police force used from other areas) so they have the numbers available.
It also usually means police officers having annual leave cancelled which friends in the police hate!

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 08/04/2021 19:12

On the NHS I would actually welcome a grown up conversation about how best to restructure it for the future without the usual cries of 'privatisation!' at the mere mention of the word insurance. I think a kind of health insurance plan more akin to what they have in Europe might be beneficial.

forfucksakenett · 08/04/2021 19:14

Having annual leave cancelled is a bit less dramatic than calling officers in from across the country.

I believe my point still stands. They were asked to stay at home, they did, we are highly unlikely to ever see the same levels of violence seen in Northern Ireland for a whole variety of reasons.

Bytheloch · 08/04/2021 19:14

Even a guilt-free railing thread reflects the division that’s already part of every day life in Scotland.
It’s only going to get worseSad

forfucksakenett · 08/04/2021 19:16

Well railing goes both ways 🤷🏻‍♀️

forfucksakenett · 08/04/2021 19:17

@RedactedTaeFeck that's interesting and not in a good way. I was not aware of that.

forfucksakenett · 08/04/2021 19:18

I knew the cleaning contracts had been privatised and some small testing / lab work but didn't know if went beyond that. Very worrying.

Scottishskifun · 08/04/2021 19:20

😂 Except they call in officers from other parts of Scotland as well!

I don't disagree that NI is in a worse situation was just pointing out that other areas of the UK have experienced rioting. It naive to think they don't anticipate the potential of similar occurrences in Scotland and have been working hard to prevent them.

Like I said lots of people have reached breaking point and sense has gone out of the window in the last few months.

I'll take your word for it!

To be fair, it's not something they publicise but there are private ambulances aplenty for a start.

RedactedTaeFeck · 08/04/2021 19:23

abc-ambulance-services.co.uk/ for one.

titsintiers · 08/04/2021 19:23

I think Covid has probably highlighted how many people took the piss out of the nhs before and couldn't over the past 12 months.

Scottishskifun · 08/04/2021 19:28

The NHS does use private quite often as well to get its wait lists down its already common practice.
I was offered private consultation as the orthopaedic surgical team in my area was at a 14 month wait time (pre covid) but I couldn't do the 4 hour trip to Glasgow for it.

With the wait times and backlog as a result of covid it's going to be more and is already a NHS system in place.

RedactedTaeFeck · 08/04/2021 19:34

There is a secret ward in FV kept empty (even during covid) that is kept on standby for bringing down the orthopaedic lists as well @Scottishskifun. DH has been sent a couple of times for private treatment for the same reasons, also sent to a private physio.

StarryEyeSurprise · 08/04/2021 19:54

The US health insurance company Centene took over 49 GP practices in England (500,000 people). I don't think this has happened in Scotland. Of course we have a private sector ( I used to be a member of Bupa) but I've not heard of Scottish GP practices being sold to American companies.

riverrunning · 08/04/2021 20:02

I'd be a fan of the German model, healthcare, the debate around nationalisation and privatisation is so old fashioned - both sectors can have bad incentives and poor management.

American company won the 450k contract awarded by the SG to decommission the NHS Louisa Jordan aka very big vaccine clinic (£40m+ set up...was this public sector financed?🧐), if we’re railing about private contracts.
