Just in case railing remains required.

@Scottishskifun

I think you only have to look at other parts of the UK to realise how much has simmered over. Riots in Bristol which is a very liberal city more likely to have a poetry reading and farmers market then a riot.

A lot of sense has gone out of the window people are fed up generally having something to direct that to will cause unrest in cities. it's a bit happy go lucky thinking to ignore that's a real possibility in Scotland.

How much effort had to put into the old firm game to stop "fans".... They knew if people came out onto the streets it would result in violence.

I don't think much effort went into it did it? The clubs put out a warning as did police Scotland and that was pretty much it. It wasn't exactly a military scale operation.

A few weeks before the Rangers fans had a wee riot to themselves right enough after winning bizarrely 🤷🏻‍♀️

forfucksakenett · 08/04/2021 18:23

You would need a catchy name.

You could incorporate @WouldBeGood into it.

It could work. Just please no better together woman eating cereal campaigns where she goes on about her husband Grin

I really hope that Scotland doesn't see NI levels of unrest. I don't think its true to say that Nationalists just sucked it up though after the No vote. The campaigning for Indyref2 started pretty much immediately and has been a permanent feature since thanks to the SNP being in power. Every bloody election centres around it. I would fully expect the campaign to rejoin the UK to begin immediately too, and to keep that pressure up as negotiations with the UK get difficult as they surely will. They're the bigger partner and let's face it, the SNP haven't exactly been fostering good relationships have they? I would also expect many with the means to up sticks to England. That's what we would likely do tbh rather than put ourselves through the upheaval.

WouldBeGood · 08/04/2021 18:28

Christ that sounds nauseating @forfucksakenett! Definitely no cereal or family members 😃

More emphasis on open borders so it’s easy to obtain cheap wine. And lovely cheese.

Exercising your democratic right to campaign isn't exactly civil unrest. It's attempting to make a desired change using the legal and democratic processes of a country.

When the Tories got elected into power Labour didn't just go ah well that's that then. They regrouped, reevaluated and carried on. All kind of. Poor example maybe.

forfucksakenett · 08/04/2021 18:30

Wine and cheese sounds appealing. Try to get open borders with France too and I would seriously consider giving up my independence dream! 🤣

Haudyourwheesht · 08/04/2021 18:30

@forfucksakenett I think that's why the police took the extremely softly - softly approach with the Rangers 'celebrations' - to prevent things kicking off worse than they did.

forfucksakenett · 08/04/2021 18:32

Can I rail about why the fuck Ruth Davidson is fronting a campaign that Douglas Ross should surely be the face of?

I know AIBU that it irritates me so much but it really does. Where is he? Wtf is he doing? What's he going to do when she goes to the Lords?

TroubleUsedToBeMyBusiness · 08/04/2021 18:32

coming to the debate late but I emailed my MSP to say it was ridiculous that I couldn't get DS feet properly measured (when he already has known issues that we had been referred to the NHS for).

@forfucksakenett I would say that a FM speaking about it for 2 weeks, meetings with the justice minister, police force, council and clubs plus social media surveillance is quite a lot of effort! It wasn't just a here's a statement from the clubs.

Yes no military were deployed but it was a major operation with police on standby.

forfucksakenett · 08/04/2021 18:37

@Haudyourwheesht yeah but then when it was the old firm they just told everyone to stay in and they pretty much did. It wasn't hard to get people to behave. The Rangers thing was a bit unexpected I think.

I don't think Scotland has the same potential for violence that we see in NI and I actually think that is rooted in Scotland being a more historically equal partner of England's by comparison. Simplistic I know but we haven't been as consistently oppressed throughout history. We don't have that deep rooted national pain to draw from the same as Ireland. We were pretty good at the old oppressing others along with our pals in the last few hundred years.

Hugely reductive I know and apologies to any historians whose eyes I make bleed.

Yeah I don't think a few meetings and a few tweets over two weeks justifies being called a huge operation. The fans were asked to stay home and they did 🤷🏻‍♀️ it hardly smacks of a potentially volatile crowd.

Bytheloch · 08/04/2021 18:50
@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us I agree with your post.
Agree here too. I’m sure I’ll be pegged as a drama queen but my anxiety is so high around what happens to Scotland post-MaySad.

So for my own sanity, I’d much rather salivate over @Groovee meal deal. I have mozzarella envy🤣

RedactedTaeFeck · 08/04/2021 18:52

Although it pains me to say it, George "Pussy" Galloway has a point.

Given how so much has been made about Scotland being forced out of the EU against it's will, surely if regions in Scotland don't vote to leave the UK they should be able to stay under the UK?

forfucksakenett · 08/04/2021 18:54

I'm honestly more anxious at the thought of staying in the union.

Now that we are out of Europe I'm just expecting all our workers rights to be eroded right back to nothing. I also am dreading the NHS being fully privatised and God knows what else sold off to the quickest bidder. I dread to think what else they are capable of.

Not really. I think a region is legally different to a country.
Scottishskifun · 08/04/2021 18:57

😂 Bit more than a few meetings and tweets given even the police reported it as a major operation

NHS is fully under control of the SG and has been going privatised for years. I'm not sure how you think staying part of the UK is going to make that worse?

It worked fine for me but try this:

The NHS is fully under the remit of the Scottish Government so 'they' in this context is the SNP. Best stay clear to be safe Wink. Seriously though, I seem to recall that the UK has higher working standards than the EU levels anyway, even under the dreaded Tories, so why would they they be eroded now?

Bytheloch · 08/04/2021 19:03

I also am dreading the NHS being fully privatised and God knows what else sold off to the quickest bidder. I dread to think what else they are capable of.

🙈 see also; independent Scotland, It will be absolutely necessary to privatise certain areas-if not the majority- of Public Health. How do you think they propose to sustain the current model?

Not for the railing thread, but try asking Kate the trainee accountant for the plan...she’s crowdfunding at the moment, maybe she could tack the NHS onto that appeal?

Anyway, back to guilt free railing about pasta deals...

Scottishskifun · 08/04/2021 19:04

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-56469178

Try that one.
High numbers of police officers on standby means shipping them in from different parts of the country to help out.

forfucksakenett · 08/04/2021 19:05

Thanks @RedactedTaeFeck

@Scottishskifun all I can see in that article is that they spoke to the clubs a lot and asked them to get the fans to stay at home.

I'm not entirely sure what's so major about that.
