Just in case railing remains required.

Oh no @Scottishskifun, wishing you a speedy recovery x

Gothichouse40 · 26/03/2021 03:15

I have honestly got to the stage that I cannot take anymore false hope. Regarding all this opening up of non- essential facilities, I will believe it when I see places open. If this Coronavirus is going to be with us forever, there comes a time we are going to have to learn to live with it. I have a family member who already lost his job through this crisis. I am also very concerned about another's mental health. My friend who is blind has only seen her carer all year. How long do we all live like this? One year, two years, ten years? I'm not a conspiracy theorist and have followed the guidelines but Im seriously beginning to wonder if there is something about this Covid19 they are not telling us. Im worried for my children's future, my grandchildren's future and for the younger generation per se. I am an older person, the last thing I'm bothered about is a bl**dy holiday.

titsintiers · 26/03/2021 06:47

Oh no @Scottishskifun hope you feel better very soon.

latissimusdorsi · 26/03/2021 06:56

Oh no, that's not good @Scottishskifun😩
Hope you feel better soon!

titsintiers · 26/03/2021 07:06

And yes @TeenTraumaTrials comparing NS to Aristotle ffs.

Lockdownbear · 26/03/2021 07:39

@Scottishskifun hope you are feeling better soon.

@Gothichouse40 we will learn to live with Covid just give a bit of time for everyone to be vaccinated.
They are planning for adults to be done for July, then once they have the second vaccines, they'll be ready to do school kids starting September I think they said. That's assuming that the vaccine trials go ok.

WouldBeGood · 26/03/2021 07:54

I’m absolutely scunnered too @Gothichouse40. I think it’s really hard when you see the suffering lockdown causes. Imagine just seeing a carer for a whole year 🥲

OP posts:
rookiemere · 26/03/2021 07:57

@Gothichouse40 my cynical view is that it would be extremely hard for SG to back out of hairdressers and shop opening now, but the numbers have not come down as much as expected, ergo they're playing with the only variable they have that also coincidentally contributes quite a lot to the numbers - secondary schools.

LizzieMacQueen · 26/03/2021 08:05

I'm frustrated. I just can't see how vaxxing the whole country will work. It's taken 4 months to get most 50+ done so what's that? Another 4 to get the rest done?

And if we don't include the under 18s won't the virus just mutate?

Then there'll be a roll out of boosters. So there'll never be a time when enough of the population is vaccinated against enough strains to allow lifting of restrictions ( of the kind that make life enjoyable which is indoor socialising for me ).

So I'm joining the 'what's the point' brigade today.

WouldBeGood · 26/03/2021 08:07

I see that all the restaurants are booking up too.

They just need to open stuff now, but I’m not very hopeful. I’m feeling really anxious about the schools.

OP posts:
shouldistop · 26/03/2021 08:11

I'm not an expert but it's my understanding that mutations only usually happen when there's high levels of infection and spread so if all adults are vaccinated that really should reduce infections significantly.
I believe under 5s almost don't spread it at all so that doesn't leave many people potentially spreading.
Plus I think it's more simple to tweak the vaccine than create a whole new one. Remember every year it's a different flu vaccine depending on the dominant strain.

ssd · 26/03/2021 08:12

I'm just constantly railing at myself for being feart all the bloody time..feart of a virus .....

shouldistop · 26/03/2021 08:12

@WouldBeGood no wonder you're feeling anxious, it's a horrible position for these kids to be in. Have you told your son yet?

Scottishskifun · 26/03/2021 08:13

Thanks ladies feeling pretty rotten but monitoring my oxygen levels from home.
They have already dropped since yesterday.

DH is so far much lighter on symptoms and DS is bouncing off the walls so he's in charge of toddler whilst I rest up.

It is what it is not a lot I can do about it just monitor and call 111 if oxygen levels get worse!

ssd · 26/03/2021 08:13

I feel so bad for those of you with school kids. The uncertainty must be awful. I've said on mn before, its the young ones I feel most sorry for in all this.

shouldistop · 26/03/2021 08:17

@Scottishskifun Thanks it's awful being ill in charge of a little one. Cbeebies and rounds of toast on repeat!

Scottishskifun · 26/03/2021 08:17

@shouldistop unfortunately that seems to be the old strain we are sick from my DS exposure he's 2.......

I know this for a fact as we haven't been anywhere other than to collect him from nursery, get online deliveries and wfh.

Even sitting here with covid and feeling rubbish I still think we need to learn to live with it. My choice was keep my DS at home for him to have zero interaction and for his development to suffer or risk it and send him to nursery.....

Would have made the same decision in a heartbeat to send him to nursery!

WouldBeGood · 26/03/2021 08:17

I just don’t think the mutations are as terrifying as they make out. Viruses change. The vaccine is effective against mutations and can be tweaked. Other countries have opened up on that basis.

And in a way it doesn’t matter because surely we can’t live like this forever anyway! Mutations or whatever.

I think the SG said yesterday no plans to vaccinate under 16s.

@ssd

I'm just constantly railing at myself for being feart all the bloody time..feart of a virus .....
Oh, @ssd don’t rail at yourself 💐

@shouldistop no.. he’s off for his one day this week today and I haven’t had the heart. I was kind of hoping they’d go back on it and just tell us they’d be in... but no update.

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 26/03/2021 08:21

@Scottishskifun take it easy and fingers crossed it improves soon

OP posts:
ssd · 26/03/2021 08:26

@WouldBeGood, thanks, I'm just pissed off at myself for worrying about something most folk seem to be getting on with.
@Scottishskifun, I hope you feel better soon but I totally get your argument, your ds will gave benefited from nursery so much. Sorry to ask, but do you have any underlying health conditions? If not hopefully you'll get through it ok. Wishing you all the best Flowers

latissimusdorsi · 26/03/2021 08:28

Yeah it's so bad for our kids here.

We have family in another European country and nephews have been in primary school since last August, no disruption. Not sure about secondary schools.
Their country lets each area decide on whether they have a problem and need to close so the whole country isn't affected.

They have high rates of Covid but big difference is they spend way more on healthcare so have many more hospitals and medical staff than we do so there's hasn't had to be this big need to close everything to protect hospitals from being overwhelmed.
I'm sure that's been big factor in them being able to keep schools open

Lockdownbear · 26/03/2021 08:46

I think the SG said yesterday no plans to vaccinate under 16s.

WTF?
They are doing trials with the AZ vaccine on 5-17 yos now, expected to be ready to roll out Autumn, I can't remember if Boris said August or September but looking to have school kids done for Christmas.

WouldBeGood · 26/03/2021 08:51

Personally I’m fine with it, as it’s not tested on kids yet.

OP posts:
Lockdownbear · 26/03/2021 08:54

Up thread someone mentioned a blind friend who's only seen a carer, surely that friend is entitled to a support bubble based on being vulnerable and on living alone?
