I am trying to buy kids wetsuits and body boards (plus glove, boots, hoods 😬) so we can enjoy a Scottish summer on the beach 😂🥶.
Everything’s going out of stock so quickly 😬

DeepfriedPizza · 08/04/2021 10:10

I think it’s because we got a small glimpse last weekof the nice weather we should be having. Now it’s back to winter!

Test was done at 9, very efficient. I’m surprised it’s taken me this long to have my first test. The coughing has worsened though.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 08/04/2021 10:11

Thanks @Icannever interesting stuff.

Lockdownbear · 08/04/2021 10:19

@DeepfriedPizza we all had tests about 2 weeks ago, 9.30 I think is when we had them. Kids results were back at 11pm DH and mine were back at 12pm.

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 good luck looking for your religious cooker! I know it's a typo but gave me a giggleGrin

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 08/04/2021 10:21

Oh god @Lockdownbear 😂😂 too busy typing frantically and moaning to notice that! I did eventually get one and it's coming on Monday but it was a pain in the arse!

Can't believe that typo 😂

Lockdownbear · 08/04/2021 10:24

@Icannever really interesting on the herd immunity. I bet England will be ahead of Scotland though because they have allowed covid to spread a little more.

Where do I go to buy wetsuits?

Last year I bought one 2nd hand because everywhere was sold out and I acquired another from a lady who's kid had out grown it.

latissimusdorsi · 08/04/2021 10:25

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021
I managed to get new cooker on click and collect in Nov. But I was happy to take one of any religionGrin

DeepfriedPizza · 08/04/2021 10:28

Have you tried Decathlon for wetsuits?

My cooker is an atheist, I think

shouldistop · 08/04/2021 10:31

I got ds1 a wet suit from JoJo mama Bébé but they only go to age 6 I think.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 08/04/2021 10:34

God what have I started 😂

It was weird just basic cookers no one had stock. Didn't want to pay a fortune. My catholic mother will be raging 😂

UnderHisAye · 08/04/2021 10:34

@Ifyourefeelingsinister

That is annoying. Can't see why homeward shops can open, but not places selling appliances. And don't get me started on shoes - not sure why shoes aren't considered essential, but buying plants is?
This pisses me off too! Kids, time to go back to school, but the only shoes you can buy are from a supermarket, or roll the dice and end up buying and returning multiple pairs online.
SempreSuiGeneris · 08/04/2021 10:46

We got a new cooker just after shops closed. The Currys site is decent and is always desperate to have the on-line help person add their tuppence worth. Even got it fitted cos it's deemed necessary if you have a gas / electric combo to have a certified fitter.

Just be careful about more expensive brands because there seems to be a lot of stock which has been hanging around a warehouse getting faulty. Same issue if you need a new car.

No idea about my new oven's religious preferences but I love that it has a built in smiley face from the knob / handle placement. Also helps that it doesn't have a clock / timer I can't control and never use and it doesn't randomly start beeping at me to run the self-clean when all I want to do is bung in the oven chips.

Lockdownbear · 08/04/2021 10:49

I really don't get why homeware is open but not clothes or footwear. There is no logic to it.

Surely electrical shops are more essential than hairdressers too? Electrical stuff breaks and needs replaced. Lots of people would much rather view stuff in person than buy online.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 08/04/2021 10:52

The kids shoe thing is really pissing me off too! Both of ours have outgrown their shoes, but apparently making sure growing feet have well-fitting shoes isn't 'essential' (and certainly not as important as getting your roots done obviously 🙄 ). And now we've discovered that our local shoe shop hasn't survived the restrictions and won't be reopening, so we'll either have to go through to Glasgow to get them fitted properly, or take our chances with online shoes.

Icannever · 08/04/2021 10:54

@Lockdownbear lomo based in Glasgow has decent priced wetsuits but I wanted an in between thickness and they only do full 5mm or 3mm. I want a 4mm/3mm to do for spring/summer/autumn. Two bare feet are very well
Priced but I can’t work out what size I need.

If you can get them second hand your as well doing that as they grow out of them so fast it’s not Like they’ll be well worn. I’m keeping an eye on eBay just now. If you want body boards two wet feet still have some stock but it’s decreased dramatically in the last week or so.

SempreSuiGeneris · 08/04/2021 10:54

According to the ONS Scotland is roughly on the same path to herd immunity in older age groups, now that the vaccination programme is caught up. However they do estimate that we are lower for younger ages due to lower prevalence. This is a skewed reading though.

If you compare Glasgow to South West England then Glasgow has higher prevalence and so higher background immunity. If you compare London to the Highlands then the reverse would be the case.

This is an issue more generally because even when you reach herd immunity on a National level there are likely to be pockets where this is not the case. (similar to non-vaccinating parents tending to live in clusters). My brother and I both got childhood illnesses later and therefore more severely than our friends because we moved to mainland Scotland after the window when most children pick up most illnesses.

DeepfriedPizza · 08/04/2021 10:55

Shops shouldn't have closed in my opinion. Just stricter rules about how many customers to let in. The queue for ikea has been an hour long at times. Can you imagine what the queues at the likes of Primark will be?

latissimusdorsi · 08/04/2021 11:04

Decathlon for wetsuits.
And yes, who ever decided properly fitted children's shoes were non-essential but plants areAngry

Scottishskifun · 08/04/2021 11:10

Don't get me started on kids shoes!

We are very lucky to have a independent kids shoe shop in town who have been fantastic during lock downs with dropping off foot measures, you send a video to them of bare foot walking etc and they recommend several types to choose from. But non fitted shoes really does damage young childrens feet!

UnderHisAye · 08/04/2021 11:25

I just checked the Omni calculator for DH, and apparently he should have his first dose by, er, this Sunday. Don't think that's happening!

Ifyourefeelingsinister · 08/04/2021 11:42

Vaccine calculator does seem a bit random, I guess because which local authority you're in has a bearing.

I have had my vaccine, whereas Omni said I wouldn't get jab until end April/early May.

shouldistop · 08/04/2021 11:45

I checked the calculator for myself a week ago and it said I'd get it in April (I'm 33 no health conditions), just checked there and it's now saying I'll get it in May.

littlbrowndog · 08/04/2021 12:32

Thanks for thoughts. 🙌🏽

Just had grim times and horrid dark solitary days being locked in winter

But feeling a million times better thank goodness

I guess for all of us at times the same

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 08/04/2021 12:38

Another moan from me!

Why are these fucking politicians touring the bastard length of Scotland. All the parties fucking posting their selfies on Twitter with their coffees or dogs. Also who is setting up these photo ops with normal people if that makes sense? No more than 2 days ago NS and JL doing their double act of just because you can doesn't mean you should? Are they immune to bloody COVID?

Devi downer starting her shite again on Twitter as well. All you just stay local while we visit every bastard corner of the country using their shops etc! NS is crossing council boundaries more than she's changing her knickers at this point. Douglas Ross with his big stupid "oh trust me" face annoying the life out of me.

Woah! That was needed. I don't want to go back to politics btw but it's really annoyed me today.
